This is great info. My neighbor is a long time trainer and hes going to work with me and my 3 year old with the martingale. I'm excited to see how it goes ! Thank you for this info .
Mr. Trocha I love this video. You explain the purpose of the german martingale so well and compare it to draw reins which makes so much sense when you say that you cannot feel the horses mouth properly with the draw reins because of all the running leverage. Fantastic video showing the proper way to equip the german martingale as well as a small lesson in not over-asking for a break at the poll. Love all your videos!
I am using a german martingale on my 3 year old and it has taught him to flex and bend wonderfully. I was having a problem in his early training of his sticking his nose up in the air and this corrected it in a nice way as he taught himself to bend. Thanks Larry
hey there! I just wanted to say thank you for posting this video! I don't use the german martingale but this is just the advice i needed about getting the horse to flex at the pole. I just worked on this with my horse today, giving her pressure until she dropped her head and flexed and she caught on really fast, I've never gotten her so round and focused and giving to my hands so nicely! it was such a simple change to the way i ride but it made a huge difference. thank you so much!
Thanks Golden. Straight and to the point is the only way I know. Unfortunately, my bluntness has gotten me into trouble more than once. Take care, Larry T.
I really wish that you would do a short video like this about NOT overflexing these horses. You touched on it here, but there is a LOT of it going on, and I noticed that those that do that on a continual basis, their horses are also constantly ringing their tails.
Could you please contrast this to a chambon? Just wondering if they produce similar results. I have a chambon, but will purchase a German martingale if needed. Thanks! :)
You said that this is designed to use with only a snaffle, so can I do as you said until while working my horse in the arena and correcting him BUT then put on his regular bit (a mexican bit) when we go on trail? He was used in the mexican rodeos and I rescued him about two years ago. He tends to bob his head and do a few hops when I try stopping him from a trot or lope. I know I'm in my seat, this doesn't happen with my other horses - just him. So I want to correct that.
I am able to get my horse to put his head down when I lift my reins, and give him a squeeze, but as soon as I release to him he brings his head up again. He also has a bad habit of sticking his nose up in the air when I ask him to stop. It's hard teaching him other things when I'm still teaching him where I want his head. This martingale looks like it will be very helpful.. But since my horse already knows to give to the bit, should I not need it? Your opinion would be great!
id you dont mind me asking ...what reins are you using mr.trocha? just training reins? im having trouble finind reins with rings on them at our tack stores! any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! Your videos are very straight forward and beneficial. Take care! Laura

I've never used one so I really can't say.
@@ltrocha Thanks! I went ahead and bought one, cause who doesn't love getting new horsey stuff in the mail???

Hi 52,
The reins with the rings attached, are part of the German Martingale.
They are purchased as one whole unit.
Take care,
Larry T.

How come this equipment is not suitable for a curb bit with shanks based on leverage?
Thanks once again Larry///
Are there any problems with the horse wearing a breastplate while wearing a german martingale at the same time??
@ltrocha Nice answer =D
In German they called Tiedemannzügel or Köhlerzügel =)
you showed us nothing wow show the people how it works and maybe use a semi-trained horse
