Converting Our CRANE into a DUMP TRUCK! Part 1

- Our 1960's Bucyrus Erie Crane has been decommissioned for the last 6 years, and has been in storage collecting dust. Last Fall we purchased a dump truck bed with the intent to make this crane into something we could use. We finally have found the time to make this crazy idea a reality!

The old phrase get a bigger hammer doesn’t always work! Gotta love a plasma torch clean cuts almost every time waiting for the next one see you soon!
We should have bought a plasma cutter years ago after seeing how much time it saved us on this project!
Watched this with admiration.
I'm really looking forward to the second part.
If the chassis is changed in the Netherlands by cutting or drilling, there is a very good chance that the vehicle will no longer receive a registration number.
That is interesting! Sounds like the safety standards are probably a lot more strict there. We see some trucks on our roads that are definitely an accident waiting to happen.
I like your style, slow and steady wins the race.
Many thanks for Part 1 what a lovely one crane it was but great to bring new life to family vehicles
It's kind of a sentimental project, because we can no longer use the crane, but will be able to use a dump truck. Although our grandfather has passed away several years ago, his truck lives on in the current fleet.
That crane helped put the trusses on our house in Attica. 👍
Wish we had a number of how many houses it set trusses on in its lifetime!
That crane is a nice piece of Ohio history, I hope it finds a safe home.
im sure you father or grand father would had known my great uncle Ernie Pyle he owned a gulf station at us 20 and oh15 the house is still there but station is gone good times as a kid there
It's hard to say, that was probably long before my time! They used to go all over the state, so most likely either grandpa, or great grandpa would have known of him.
That was cool. Keep'em comin'.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice older crane. My aunt and uncle use to have a trucking company not to far from y’all
Matt from Diesel Creek could put that crane on a 6x6 army truck, or Wilcox could? On a 6x6 chassis it would be useful
If he'd be interested in it, we would be happy to let it go to a new, good home where someone has a use for it. The truck has sat for the last 6 years, so that's why we opted to make a dump truck, to use on wrecks and for our own property maintenance.
I much prefer bolts or rivets with this type of installation the reason being when layers of steel are involved welding starts the rusting process where drilling and bolting don't. There is a weld threw Zink products that helps but fluid film burns away and if anything holds water in between the layers. Don't get me wrong fluid film is an excellent product when used properly, this is just not so much one of them
We have had much better luck with Fluid Film when the trucks are treated from new. We ended up painting POR 15 on parts of the frame underneath of some the spots we were mounting to. When were all finished we plan to coat the entire frame with ZEP Ironclad.
All gr8 stuff.@@WilcoxGarageRecovery
Early rotater
Can you sell that old crane to somebody even though it is no longer worthy of lifting? Maybe for parts--with a dis claimer of responsibilty .??
The crane is still fully functional, and anyone that would have a use for it we could sell it to them... We just don't have a use for it anymore, and most businesses wouldn't either. If an individual wanted it for their own lifting needs would be the most ideal candidate.
Hopefully you charged that customer a pretty penny for working in the rain.... lol 😂
The saying "make hay while the sun shines" just doesn't quite seem appropriate, even though it was making the best use of our time at that moment 😂
