We currently have the 6 person tent. We love the size and how spacious it is. However, we don’t like the zipper. It keeps on getting jammed a little. Great video! We just might exchange our current one for the 8 person tent.
How did the windows hold up in the rain? I notice that they don't have any zippers but only loops? I would think the rain would get in with those if it got windy?
@@DriversofOttawa No Problem. We live in an area that gets a lot of rainfall and have spent several rainy nights in it and not a leak. The toggle window closure was a concern at first but once you get use to it you’ll like it.
@@moderntentcamping Hope you can still provide some answers about this one. Do the window toggles make this tent less than ideal for windy / cold weather ?
@@henryangeles2413 Not that I can tell. I’d say this tent holds heat better than double walled tents with mesh inner canopies - but it has a mesh ceiling the let’s heat out. You could rig a space blanket to cover the mesh but other tents are better suited for cool weather.
You are welcome. What is your interest in this tent? Are you planning to buy a new tent or do you work for Eureka? We continue to use this tent and like it even better than I indicated in this video. It is a little hard for one person to set up but it is a great tent. Had torrential rains this past weekend but stayed dry.
Your are welcome Chris. We have taken it out 3 times thus far this year and still like it. It’s a good tent for a reasonable price. Thanks for the note.
AS always ---another great video by Frazier Douglas. Frazier you are an inspiration to so many . Just because there is a pandemic of Covid19 --it doesn't mean we can't set up our camps in our backyard and tweak the heck out of our setups. We would never take the time to do that under normal conditions. When we finally get back to our favorite campgrounds we will have a fast set-up and take down. Please keep posting Frazier.
Chris McLaughlin Thank you Chris. I always enjoy your uplifting comments. You comments and comments from my other loyal followers help motivate me to get to work on the next video. I think the next one will be about camping dopes and knots. Take care.
Thank you for the video! There are so many tents out there I didn’t know what to buy!?! We just got this tent for a family trip out west and after watching this, I’m hopeful we got the right tent!
Nice new tent. 8 person tents are like a bedroom. Setup will get easier with practice on your new tent. 31 lbs is kinda heavy, you need Lalo to grow fast. LOL... Hope you and your family are doing well in these times. Thank you for sharing, take care Frazier D.
RedWhite&Blue 78 Thanks Jason. It’s good to hear from you. Life sure has changed and may not ever be the same as before. I sure hope we can get out this summer.
Fantastic and informative video! I appreciate your thorough review. My husband and I have enjoyed your website as we begin to explore more tent camping adventures. Thanks for your content!

@@moderntentcamping I live in Europe, so it is easy to come by. Compared to my coleman equipment the quality seems a bit sturdier and perfect for windy coastal cliff camping, it is approved for bft wind force 8. We will see if it is going to live up to this expectation. 😎💨💦
Great video... Yes Those tent stakes are "useless." Could have stopped right there. You have to have perfect ground and no wind at all for those tent stakes. Probably best suited for staking out tomato plants in the garden. Oh and soft ground forget it. Best in a ground that gives very little. Actually come to think of it. I always replace my stakes now as soon as I get a tent if they come with that type. Great video. Thank you.
Not useless. I often use them when I know for sure there will be no wind....and the ground conditions make them easier to use than other type of stakes. I also use them to secure a tarp I put down in front of the doorway. But for sure, they should never be used under windy conditions! That's why I carry 4 different types of stakes.
I hate to be that guy, but you have the guy line plastic thingy cinched incorrectly. Probably why it wasn’t working for you. Great video, I just picked up this tent to replace my old eureka tetragon 1012. Thanks for the ground tarp tip, it very difficult to find a 9x12 tarp.
Most of the year we can have campfires and some irresponsible campers build giant fires with no pails of water. But we get a lot of rain. About an inch a week. Only occasionally in august or September do we have droughts and campfires are restricted or banned. Quite different from western states. Merry Christmas
Great video Frazier! That tent is really nice. How often do you and Ava go backyard camping? Looks like a great alternative with everything being shut down due to the virus.
mrbr549 I have camped here before but would prefer to go to a state or federal park. But we have few choices now. I went out about 6:30 this morning. 34 degrees outside but very warm inside with a small space heater. Thanks for the comment. Take care.
Just set up the lx 8 for the first time. Was able to do it by myself. Inserting the last diagonal roof pole into the hub was so hard. I'm in my 30s and had to use almost every bit of strength. Made the roof bow into a concave shape. Then I pressed and flicked the entire (heavy) roof and it went convex. Is this normal setup? Also, did you ever figure out ways to make the front door zipping easier? The roof tightness really does slow it down. After one backyard setup, tent and materials look good. Nice tent. One person setup with fly possible. I'm 6'2'' but that didn't play a role in setup except possibly the rain fly.
Aurelian Balan We have found that having a second person go inside the tent and push the roof up makes it very easy to insert the roof poles. The material near the zipper has stretched and the zipper is easier to slide.
Hey Air Wolf and thanks for watching. I can only make a guess because my tent is packed away for the winter. But the steel corner poles are about 5 to 5 1/2 feet long and the fiberglass roof support poles are about 8 feet long. You might be able to get more specific information from Johnson Outdoors. They are the primary distributors of Eureka Tents.
Now that you have had this tent for a year, are there any new comments that you would make in regards to it? My husband and I are planning a two week trip out west. We have a 4 year old, 3 year old, and will have a three month old when we go on our trip. We will be tent camping in different locations for 5 out of 14 days. Some of the places we will be staying are the North Rim (Grand Canyon), Bryce Canyon, and RMNP. This tent is our top contender. Any new issues that you have come across since the tent has been in use or any new pros that you find in this tent? My main concern is rain and warmth in colder areas. Thanks :)
We love it. It is much more spacious than most other 8 person tents. And we have spent many rainy nights in it with no leaks. One day in the Smoky Mountains we got about 3 inches of rain but only one tiny drop in the tent. Don’t know where it came from. Regarding cold weather, all polyester tents will get cool in cold weather because they have to have mesh to avoid condensation. But this tent seems to hold heat better than double wall tents with all mesh inner canopies. I have thought that I’d hang a space blanket in the ceiling in cold weather to hold in heat but have never felt the need to do it. One issue that has been cited by other owners is the toggle closures for windows but they have never caused us any problems. Recently I saw a video showing zipper closure so they might have changed. In sum, we love our tent and would definitely buy it again. Much lower priced than other 8p tents. Hope you have a great trip.
Since I'm not a expert on tents, by any stretch of the imagination, I have a question about this tent, before purchasing one for a birthday gift, for a family member. Does the blue cover that goes over the top and sides, come with the tent, or is it sold separately? I'm interested in the 4 person model of this same tent. Thanks for your help. God bless.
Darryl Riech Hey Darryl. Thanks for the question. Yes, the blue rain fly comes with the tent. I know you will like the tent. It is an upgraded version of an old tried and true tent model. Eureka is a great company that will repair your tent if necessary, forever. And the repairs will be either free or surprisingly low. But I would STRONGLY urge you to consider the 6 person instead of the 4. The 4 is certainly adequate for a couple but the 6 is much more comfortable. Hope you have many fun camping trips. Ps.
