How I remember the Caronia so well. We were migrating to Australia and en route we stopped at Colombo Harbour on Wednesday 12 April 1961; a hot humid oppressive day . We tied up in the am, alongside the RMS Caronia, and I remember my dad telling mum as we gazed at the ship; that she was "THE GREEN GODDESS". I remember them saying she had an Atrium on board. Caronia was from memory around 34,000 Tons, and our Ship "Oronsay" was around 28,000 Tons. This video tribute brought back a lot of memories to me. I remember that day as if it were five minutes ago. what a beautiful ship she was. I took a Black and White photograph of her. I must try to find it. A sad end to a beautiful ship.

Really love your videos. Maybe you can add some technical informations to them, like ship length, weight, passanger capacity or speed. How about a video about early German 4 stackers or the big 4 from white star?

A well-made tribute as always. I don't think I've said this before, but I love the use of music by Audiomachine and Two Steps From Hell. Such epic music definitely is fitting for these majestic liners.

Sorry I'm late. I swear every time a ship - especially a great ship - changes hands that life never ends well for them. Excellent video as per usual my friend. As I already said, this one is easily my favorite Caronia. The Green Goddess just had such a transcending charm. There is no question in my mind that if she were designed to today's standards - with balconies and outdoor pools and all that - that she'd be one of the most popular ships in the world, as she once was. It's a shame her life ended the way it did. She was truly a goddess indeed.

Remember her stopping in Honolulu before leaving for Taiwan. Harbor pilot said it was scary as this ship creaked and rattled like she was going to sink. She looked like a ghost ship! Broken windows and chipping paint and what looked like curtain material on upper decks everywhere.

Another well made video. There is little to match the majesty of a ship's launching, as it slips down the ways. Having witness several, it always brings back wonderful memories. Then, to experience sailing during the era of the 50s--complete with civility and full service. Both scenarios, alas, gone forever.
(If I may be allowed a nit-pick, many of the textual captions were not displayed long enough to be read.)

Gotta love that pre-Queen Elizabeth 🇬🇧💜💛💙💜💛💙🇬🇧; all the Royal bling seems a bit much on such a little girl, but she did (and does) her duty to perfection 💜.
Suspecting Caronia to be a motorship, that stack could have been trimmed a bit, say a couple feet off the trailing curve.
Might want to mention that Caronia was running mate to the Mauritania II, not the completely beautiful original 4-stacker 💜.
Which was the mauve-hulled P&O liner of the 1930s?; she was a beauty.

My neighbour who’s in her 80s now gave me an old hand made wooden game about 16 years ago it was made by someone in her family who worked at John browns it drove me to distraction at times but the instructions how to play are written on an invite card to the launch of the T.S.S CARONIA on the 30th of October 1947 at 1.25 P.M.*

In a way, the Caronia had a similar fate to that of the former America. It’s not often that you hear about an ocean liner being claimed by the elements.

I only found this video today. Thank you for the Caronia Timeline credit at the very end. I'm fully aware of the time it takes to research and assemble such material - it takes some commitment. It's a real shame you didn't contact me about your ambitions for this video, as I'm pretty sure that you'd agree that history has not been kind to the interim legacy of this trend-setting ship.
This could have been addressed, big time, to try and stop a range other ships being claimed as the most luxurious when they're nowhere deserving of such an accolade. As a former crew member, the whole point of my building the Caronia Timeline's 1,200+ pages was to try and address this historical imbalance, allowing visitors to make up their own minds over the claims to luxury. I'd have loved to co-operate with you in extending that onto TH-cam.
