It actually depends. These biased companies are getting smarter and now putting these disclosures in the employment contract. They only recently removed this guideline from our armed forces. Sadly, it is STILL legal to ban dreadlocs. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently ruled against a lawsuit filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against Catastrophe Management Solutions, effectively ruling that refusing to hire someone because of their dreadlocks is legal.
Depends on the locks, if they are free form and look crazy. Yes, then that is a deal breaker depending on where you work. If your dreads are nice and maintained, then you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. If a job gives you a hard time about your maintained dreads, you can email the head of the company. They are not allowed by law to not hire you or tell you to cut your hair off.

So some of the community calls them locs to get away from that idea and put more respect towards it and look at them in a positive way of growth and patience. But they’re of course several names and reasonings behind locs and the different names lol

I got fired for having locks when I first started people told me to watch out for this white guy name mike he hated black men with long dreads the crazy part is this dude wore a ponytail eventually he got me two but I look at it as part of my loc journey I also had my sister pull some out during an argument ✅✅💯💯
