Did We Design Our Restoration?

  • Steve and I are not landscape designers nor landscape architects, but we know a few and very much value their work. Our "design" came from thinking in layers and native plant diversity. It's incredible to watch as plants thrive or don't thrive and tell us where they want to be. Whether you start with a design or not, have fun and work to emulate native plant communities. Then go kiss a plant. 😃

Yes! Mother Nature is quite the landscaping architect. She can do a much better job than we can. I agree with you about just plant and allow nature to do its thing. You and Steve have created a magical place to call home. And yes I will kiss a flower and hug a tree. ❤

Woo hoo! What a way to celebrate each day. I'm so glad you think so too. It feels like something, like tending loved ones? I always feel like the magical place we get to call home came about because we were open and we said yes, we will share space. Please come back. I bet your place is magical too!

Thank you SO much for the tour of your beautiful oasis! You and Steve have done a tremendous amount of work to help it look clean and natural. And it's nice to see where you spend your time and to "know" where you are. 😊 Glad you're now enjoying the fruits of your labor! Miss you ❤❤

Hello, hello! We were so close to you all and yet so far. If only we could bend time a bit....:) Thanks for your kind comments and thoughts. It's truly a gift to live amongst all this beauty. As I write the American goldfinches are singing everywhere. It's there moment of fledging young who will feast on all these cup plants seeds. Thrilling!

I think you're so lucky that you have more rainfall than I do in California-- So dry here! I have to tell you about my wildlife encounters. Yesterday, I saw a falcon (not sure which) drinking water from my birdbath-- I watched as long as I could- so cool! I rescued 3 tree frogs from my recycling-- I dumped my small recycling bin into my large bin, which was going out the next day, and heard "thumping" coming from the bin- I looked and saw a small masked tree frog hopping up the bin. I picked it up and put it in a good spot, but then I heard more thumping, and a second tree frog was hopping up-- I put it in a good spot-- then, there was no more thumping-- I looked into my empty small recycling bin, and there was a THIRD masked tree frog in the bottom of the bin-- I put it in a good place again.
I have been seeing a small lizard in my front yard that is missing it's tail-- I named it "Stumpy" of course, and I see it every day in my front yard. It takes no notice of me at all when I talk to it. Love this channel and watch every episode.

Hi, hi!! I just replied on another post about the dryness happening here right now. It really is so very challenging for everyone when not enough rain falls. We are very different from your location in northern CA, I know. We all have to talk to the plants and the animals, I think. It certainly makes me feel more human. You are always so generous and so very kind to us and the Earth. THANK YOU.
