    Jim, Thank you so much for posting this video on You tube. My son, who is 15 years old and wants to be an engineer, reviewed the video and fixed the Water Dispenser in about 20 minutes end to end. He didn't even need to add the additional adaptor. He just patiently manipulated the tube until he was able to fit it back into the despenser hole. We are very greatful and you saved us a call to an authorized repair technician.

    Thank you very much Jim - you saved the cost of a new fridge. I changed the filter and this caused more water pressure which was enough for the water hose to come out of the housing, which then caused the ice auger to continuously run. I took everything apart, used a hair dryer to dry the electrical components. I was able to feed the water hose up from the bottom door of the fridge to give me an extra few inches to guide the hose back through the spout so i can see a 1/4" of hose. thnx Mark

    Jim, I have the same exact model, however, I have a different peculiar issue. Last week, I noticed that there were 3 "tear" drops on the floor under the freezer door. I noticed that the door had a couple of very very small drops from what seemed to be those "tear" drops rolling down. I check everything, and nothing seemed to be wet. So I dried it off, and I just ignored it. Last night, I noticed that the freezer door had a couple of very small water drops. There was nothing on the floor. It almost seemed like a bit of condensation, but I can only compare it to when you take a wet towel and wipe something down leaving some water droplets on the surface. Looking at the dispenser, I pushed on that drip tray that you initially took out and a few drops started coming down from the bottom edge. In other words, where the bottom edge of that drip tray cover (that you took out initially) meets the refrigerator door, a few drops started rolling down. But then it stopped. I'd say about 6 or 7 small drops may have come out. I left a plate underneath all night and nothing was collected. As a matter of fact, I played with it this morning, and I see nothing coming out. What can this be? Can this be condensation?

    Thanks! I had this same issue with this model fridge. My kid broke the water actuator paddle, so I had to replace it, but in the process I upset the natural balance in the universe that kept the stupid water hose nestled comfortably in the little hole thingy. I found the adaptor at Lowe's, but of course it's been like 13 years so it's not 88 cents anymore-. I got it for like $2.60 with my military discount. Also, I had a helluva time warming the hose with a hair dryer so I took my trusty Afghanistan Zippo lighter and that did the trick. Once I got the adaptor in the tube, the rest was easy.

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not sure that I understand your question, but I think the hose goes all the way from the dispenser down to the bottom of the door where it meets a coupler that also meets a hose coming from the water on/off solenoid valve at the back bottom left corner of the frig. However your model may be different. You might try inserting a short length of hose into the "hose base" and see if that restricts the water flow to just the hose...if not, then the door may have to be taken apart by a Tech.

    I have the same Frigidaire side by side and after we use the water dispenser the water leaks out. Sometime a few drops and sometimes quite a bit. I was planning on buying the replacement water line assy and replace but am not sure if that is what needs to be replaced. Your video is very helpful. Thanks.

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Ensure that the dispenser paddle trigger mechanism is clean and moving freely, If you are satisfied that the paddle trigger is working properly and sending a timely signal to the solenoid, then the solenoid may have a calcium deposit that is interfering with it closing in a timely fashion. In which case you would benefit from a in-line filter and a new solenoid. Hope this helps - best wishes in solving the problem.

    Some times, after prolonged use, the O-rings on the filter get distorted and water will begin to slow leak past them and puddle up on the frig shelves. You might try replacing your filter. You should be able to find one at Lowe's... but they aren't cheap ( $35-$45). Best wishes !

    O.K. had a problem putting the extension through the hole in the dispenser. To solve it, I tied picture wire to the extension, fed the wire through the hole, put the dispenser back in place, and pulled the wire through with the extension. Worked like a champ. Other than that it saved me a bucket of cash probable. thanks

    Wow, good job Mark ! Drying the electrical board with a hair dryer was a great idea. My board got wet once due to failing O-rings on the water filter and it cause the water dispenser to intermittently dispense water through out the day. It was like we had a thirsty ghost living with us... Ha ha ! Anyway, thanks for posting your comment. Glad it worked out for you !

    I have the same model refrigerator, but my leak is occurring somewhere inside the door. The water drips down the hose and onto the floor. Also, when I try to get water from the dispenser, it takes a second for it to start flowing. Great video, by the way!

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    An electronic solonid valve with an o-ring opens and closes to start and stop the water flow. It may be that your solonid valve has a small bit of debris or calcium/iron deposit in it keeping it from closeing tightly or perhaps the o-ring is worn. I'm not sure, but the solonid valve on your frig may be down bottom at the back where the water line feeds into your frig. If your filter is "muddy" you may benifit from replacing the filter - and perhaps the solonid valve. Best wishes for success !

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @almaromantica01 A water tube runs from the door dispenser out the bottom of the door where it often ends and there is joined by a coupler to another water tube that goes out the back of the frig and on to the water supply. If the door side of the coupler came off the tube and you tried to push the coupler back onto the tube, it may have pushed the end of the tube up inside the door. A flashlight and hemostats may help retrive the end of the tube from the door. Hold it with needle nose pliers.

    Use a emory board or fine file and take the barbe ridges down a little bit and try again. Repeat the process till it goes in... but don't get carried away with the file. You want it to be a snug fit. Try griping the barb with a pair of pliers to get more force. Best wishes !

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    When depressed, the dispenser paddle send an electronic signal to a solenoid valve (located most often on the lower back left corner of a frig and has the water supply hose attached to it). If you can, make sure the solenoid valve remains dry when you depress the paddle. If the solenoid remains dry, then check the fitting where the two hoses connect together at the bottom front left door. The hose at the paddle may be slightly miss aligned and dripping down onto the afore mentioned fitting.

    I have about same type of refrigerator, the problem I have is when removing the glass/cup the flow of water will not stop, it takes several seconds, maybe a minute until hear the click and then flow stops. What do you suggest to do? Do I have to replace the entire assembly or just a part of it?

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    As you face the frig the solenoid valve will be on the back of the frig at the bottom left corner. You should see a water line connected to it.and a plug with wires that come from the front control panel.

    Anytime water drips slowly, I suspect two things: 1) Hard water deposits minerals in the solenoid valve and the build up of deposit prevents the solenoid from closing all the way - thus allowing a slow leak to occur at the ice/water dispenser drip tray (replace solenoid @ lower back of frig); 2) The O-rings of the water filter are old/misshapen and allow a slow leak to collect on the refrigerator shelves (replace water filter @ inside frig ceiling ). Hope this helps. Best wishes !

  • @boydj98
    @boydj98 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just took my panel apart, but I noticed my water actually comes straight out of the tube into the glass. The water seems like there is a slow drip coming out of the tube. On a good day I can get it to "click" and quit leaking, but I noticed that with the panel off, the end of the tub is still wet, like a light build up. Not sure if that makes sense. Any thought on where up the chain it tells it to dispense water and where it could be broken. This is for a whirlpool conquest side by side.

    If you didn't detect any water coming from places where it should not be detected, then it sounds like it may have come unplugged. You might try ensuring the plug near the circuit board is tightly mated and perhaps use a hair dryer to dry off the circuit board. But be sure to unplug your frig before touching the circuit board. Best wishes !

    If the brass barb is a better fit then use the brass barb - many plumbing fittings are made of brass so it should not effect the quality of your water. If that dosn't work then see the below option.

  • @JimThomasOutdoors
    @JimThomasOutdoors  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hard water can deposit minerals in the solenoid valve and the build up of deposits can prevent the solenoid from closing all the way - thus allowing a slow leak to occur. You may need to replace your solenoid valve and consider an in-line water filter that feeds your frig - to protect the new solenoid. There are YT Vids on how to replace a frig solenoid. Good luck and best wishes !

    My problem is that the water dribbles out after the paddle returns to the off position and water slowly drips enough to fill the catch tray It's a very slow leak but it still need to be fixed. I understand there is a water control valve in the left rear of the Frigidaire unit where the copper house water supply line connects to the unit. Can that be repaired or must it be replaced? Also, I installed a new water filter and that just seemed to increase the leak. Any advice is appreciated.

It doesn't leak all the time but somehow it gets real wet two or three times a day under the door. I pulled the bottom panel off and it's definitely coming from inside the freezer door where the line is running up. Any advice on fixing this?

    • @JimThomasOutdoors
      @JimThomasOutdoors  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might be that the centripetal motion of the door swinging shut is causing water pooled in the drip tray to sling out onto the door face and floor. You try might drying your drip tray thoroughly and then put a dry paper towel on it to see if your dispenser is leaking/dripping while you aren't watching.

    • @chc6927
      @chc6927 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, this is not the problem. Tried what you suggested and still getting water from right hand corner of the dispensing station. Looks like water is coming from behind the framework of the station.

    • @JimThomasOutdoors
      @JimThomasOutdoors  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      CHC If the filter has not been changed in a while, you might try a new filter. Also, if the dispenser water delivery hose is slightly retracted from its receptacle, then a small amount of water could escape and trickle down to the drip tray from behind the dispenser face.

    Jim I have an odd question I bought a frigidaire GLHS37EHSB7 used about 3-4 years old when I hit the water paddle its spilled a little water out of the hole (that did not have the white tube sticking out and a lot seemed to run down inside the door out onto the floor I used your info in this video and opened it up and there is no little curved hose there just a place in the body of the door that looked like it had been plugged into the little hose base any ideas how long that hose goes in need?

    • @JimThomasOutdoors
      @JimThomasOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If slivers of ice are coming out from the water dispenser tube then you might try turning the temperature dial to a slightly warmer setting. Since the water dispenser water "goes out from everywhere" then it is very likely that the hose has become dislodged from its retainer.

    I have a kenmore fridge in which the front panel is exactly like the one you are working on this video. I replaced the lever that was broken for the water dispenser. However when I removed the panels to make the repair I made the mistake to have unplugged the power strip supply (the strip that reads " sheldhal") from the panel's face and cannot make it to work, I inserted back into the entry a few times, and I made it to work on and off, however I cannot make it to be on and stady......Any ideas as of what I can do??? I am concerned I did not have to unplug this and now I am frustrated because it used to work before... Thank you for your response....

    • @JimThomasOutdoors
      @JimThomasOutdoors  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dorothy Crawley These type plugs usually have a little plastic latch mechanism that, when mated properly, will hold the two plug ends together. Make sure that you are getting full penetration of the male end into the female end ... and try and see if there is a little plastic finger hook that catches under a mini belt loop kind of thing. If the catch is broken, get some electrical tape, hold it together tightly and have someone wrap it tightly with the tape. Best wishes !.

I think that one is fine (because I never took it out) I did get full penetration on the other end (the one I unplugged from the circuit panel), I do not think we are talking about the same thing...There is a connector that has a male/ female mate with some wires coming out and that plugs to the circuit panel..BUT I do not have any problems with that. The connection I am talking about looks like a 8" white tape on one side and the other has red lines (which I think powers the circuit that controls the panel)....is there a regular email I can email you some pix???? thank you for your help, I am stoked I have some answers...What's your email?

      I replied to your e-mail & here is what I said: , First try pressing the female lips together as they may be somewhat "sprung" apart. If the male part of the ribbon strip only makes contact on one side of the ribbon, then you may be able to cut one or two small bits of electrical tape and place the bits on the opposite side of the male connection terminals so as to create a "shim" to help it fit tighter. If neither of these actions work, then you might try holding it in place and using a hot glue gun to make a temporary plastic "weld"... but just be sure to not get sloppy and cover any of the connection points with either tape or hot glue... just a dab will do ya. In any case, be sure the frig is unplugged from the wall electrical socket before working on the unit. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

    Jim, question for you - I have the same fridge and have a small water leak as well - but my leak is coming from the left side where the ice comes out - you can see the water drip run down behind the arm where you push your glass to get ice and it goes into the tray below - its not a lot but it is annoying as to where the water is coming from - we have emptied the ice bin - cleaned the chute out (nothing was blocking anything) - any ideas? thanks

      Liquid water will most likely be coming from the hose that feeds your water dispenser paddle. Some times, after prolonged use, the O-rings on the filter get distorted and water will begin to slow leak past them and because of its height, the leaking water can follow the water dispenser hose down and across the back face of the ice dispenser. You might try replacing your filter. You should be able to find one at Lowe's... but they aren't cheap ( $35-$45). Also, as in my case, the water dispenser hose was slightly displaced and feeding the leak. In this case, ensure that your water dispenser hose is well seated into the water dispenser outlet hole. If both of the above items have been eliminated, then I would begin to suspect the solenoid valve at the back bottom left corner of the frig. Best wishes !

      Jim Thomas Thanks For The Speedy Response Jim - We Have Checked All You Mentioned Above (Except The Filter) As Its Still Showing In The Green (Good) State - We Did Pull It Out & Look At It - The Water In It Is Clear As If Brand New But Will Be Getting Another One & See What That Does - Will Advise You Back!

    Jim we just had this issue with the '05 fridge. What causes the tube to go up into that area? We are baffled on how this happened.

      Barry Smeltzer I'm not certain but as a guess I'd say at the factory they just cut the tubes to short - probably trying to save $1/2 cent material per frig.

    I got the same fridge,replaced the end with same adapter but i used a heat gun to heat the tube to slide the adapter.Never use a heat gun it gets it to hot. Had to cut off a piece of it and try again then finally got it on and had to buy some more tubing so i can make it fit in the hole..

      Good to know. I must of had some really tuff hose cause my wife's hair dryer didn't do much to it at all. I had to use pliers to finally jam the adapter into the hose.

    Mine had a hole you can put your finger in, feel the tube, and adjust the location, without removing the electric panel. In your video, there is a light (?) socket in the hole.

    @mikeamato100 Thanks for your comment. Yes, a slightly longer hose and an o-ring to hold it in place on the down stream side of the dispenser hole would likely be an improvement.

    As I was removing the face plate the ribbon came off the front plate. I replaced it like I thought it had been, but after replacing everything - there was no power in the water dispenser. How do you place the ribbon back into the front panel?

    If you are still having trouble getting the adaptor into the hose, use a little sandpaper on the edges of the barbs of the adaptor. P.S. It actually took me about 30 min to do the job but after editing out all the bloopers it came out to 3 min :-)

    You should be able to plug the two connectors back together,,, but be sure to unplug your frig before handling the mother board.
