      Desantine.....You got it EXACTLY RIGHT! I know nothing about what crimes these men did but they proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are good human beings. When their next parole hearing comes up parole should be immediately granted. IMO they earned themselves "another chance".

      @@2fewdaysafield But the law must be cautious. If he is indeed a good person then by all means factor that in for an early release.
      A more insidious inmate might try to use it as leverage for an early release under the guise of humanitarian act.

    I hope this eases the stereotype that not everyone in jail or prison is bad. There are some awesome people locked up. They just got caught in a bad situation at some point in their life

    • @SquatterLoki
      @SquatterLoki 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Texan 214 The case can be more complicated than you think. For example, a father agrees or commits fraud in his company to siphon off money to pay for his child's medical bills. Got caught and thrown in jail.
      A person unknowingly became a partner to a scammer in a business that looked legit on the outside and became the scapegoat. Got caught and thrown in jail.
      A faithful man recently divorced by his cheating wife drinks away his sorrow in a bar, drive drunk on his way home and killed a person by accident. Charged with manslaughter and gets thrown to jail.

    • @SquatterLoki
      @SquatterLoki 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Texan 214 It's the reason behind the crimes that would give a glimpse of who they are. If you steal from others for your own selfish greed then you earn all the prison time that comes your way. Otherwise my sympathy you have to go through that. But a crime is still a crime and you have to take responsibility for your action and do your time diligently and hopefully you get out early out of good behaviour.
      Ther is indeed a way to get out of their situation. But sometimes those ways aren't goos enough, fast enough or they don't know there is that kind of way.
      Like hell I don't even know America has a Go Fund Me until last year to ask for donations for, say, correctional surgery for that limb that impairs you from having a normal life.

By many I do not mean the majority or close to it. Ignore what texan214 says...being from texas his IQ was probably stuck on stupid. I totally understand what you were trying to say. Have to love the way the guard trusted them, too, rather than panicking and calling for assistance or backup himself. All that junk the Officer was wearing--we wore it in the military, carrying rifles, packing our clothing and equipment on our backs, walking through sand in 120 degree heat with no breeze and a crowded formation of people sucking sand laden air... not fun. This isn't exactly what that guard was going through--but close enough.

    No sarcasm intended, that is one 911 call I would love to have heard!
    Operator: "9-1-1, what's the nature of your emergency?"
    Inmate: "Uh, yeah. I'm an inmate with 'X' prison on work detail at the Polk County Cemetery. Our detail guard just passed out. We removed his gun, belt, bulletproof vest plus we have his cellphone and the keys to the work van. Could you send an ambulance?"
    All of a sudden S.W.A.T. pulls up...
    Seriously though, I would loved to have seen the faces of the responding units. Shown up and everyone's still there. 11Alive when you get a copy of the 9-1-1 call please post it.

    It just goes to show that not everyone who brakes the law is a bad man, or a less moral person in some way. Too many people end up locked up for crimes that shouldn't be crimes like drugs, which is crazy. Many men are being made felons just for the things they choose to do to their own bodies. I mean, a little bit of cocaine in your pocket is in no way a threat to anyone, but it'll still get you in jail.... it's crazy.

    • @ut000bs
      @ut000bs 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drugs kill people. People kill people. Cars, trucks, trains, and planes kill people. Alcohol kills people. Falling kills people. Water kills people. Animals kill people. So many thousands more things kill people. One here is completely avoidable by anyone, anywhere and at any time.
      The drugs.
      Cocaine, meth, heroin, and other drugs of that nature _should_ be illegal and perhaps even carry harsher sentences. How crazy would it be if your best friend died from a heroin overdose?
      If drugs are your thing stick with only cannabis. Alcohol poisons entire lives from the bottom to the top.

    I used to be a Chaplin part time at Santa Rosa County Florida jail a few years back. I also belong to a band called Heavenly Freedom, and we played and sometimes preached at Camp 5 Escambia County work camp in Pensacola Florida. I remember one Friday night, I happened to preached and sang a solo. At the end of my message, I offered an alter call. 37 inmates came to the alter. One other band member was ordained besides me, and we were the only 2 who were allowed to have contact with the inmates. Some said they only came to the alter to get out of going back to their cells. I disagreed, and the guards agreed with me too. They had to get up at 5 AM to work, so they were loosing sleep. Our thoughts were also, if it changes 1 life for the better, we were successful. I've since retired and haven't been to camp 5 for 12 years. Yet now and then I run into some of the men and they remember that night. Most of them are still living for the Lord, as far as we know, they didn't go back to prison. Why say all of this? Like these men in this story, they are caring people that have made mistakes, but were paying their debts to society. Sadly, because of their records, jobs will be hard to come by. I hope these men will receive a letter of reference pertaining to their actions on this day. Lord Bless

      The miserable legal system doesn't give a damn about their fellow human beings. Our legal system is broken and needs to be fixed. These men for their act of valor and heroism should have reduced sentences. The U.S. prison system houses more inmates than any other country in the world. This needs to change. Instead of prison, most inmates should be given treatment, it's a lot cheaper and a great deal more effective.

    Well crap, why not give the inmates a break..if it's too hot for the officer to be out walking around..why are the inmates out in the heat??? Why is his life more important than theirs???

    there are people who make mistakes. but they have a chance at something new in life that they have, all of which is why we make mistakes. but to the people who are out there .. let's not forget that we don't judge them becouse of what did has been hurt them or is their sin. man does not prefect like what we are. do not judge them for their sins. yes right there are people who are really bad. but not all .. let's not put them in a jar and measure them according to our standards.
    because man has 2 things in this world .. that is the person who understands and forgives. Remember our hands have only two things to do. The first is to close your hand and shut you out and being judgmental. and the one thing is the hand that is open to give his forgiveness.

    I would rather be a sailor than an inmate. Inmates almost never get raped. Sailors choose the length of time they spend in the Navy. The Seaman gets a good job after the military if he got an education while in the service. They get free housing. They get free medical service, etc. There's lots of good stuff for being a sailor but being an inmate is Hell on earth.

      Matt Foley, I'm not sure what to take from your comment "inmates almost never get raped". In the context of your comment it almost seems like comparing pros and cons so when you said that it made me think like you could have been saying sailors get raped more than inmates.
