I might recommend a glue gun with interchangeable tips. I have an ancient Aleene's glue gun that I use pretty much every time I craft, but I think Surebonder now makes one with additional nozzles. I know Adtech and Boswell make them.
Thanks for sharing your top picks. I love getting ideas and recommendations for good tools. Last year I got the miter shears - haven't used yet, a few silicone mats - I love them, faux sprinkles and tin snips. I keep a small tote of tumbling tower blocks on hand. My family thinks I am crazy, because I recently bought a tool chest from home depot to keep all of my tools in, organized in my craft room. I still need to get an awl.
Thank you for all of the ideas. I haven't crafted in decades . . . I mean decades. Now that I'm retired, I'd like to start again. Things sure have changed in the crafting world. I'm going to take baby steps. Thanks for sharing your craft tools and supplies that you enjoy using.
Oh I so hope you’ve had a chance to get back into crafting since your added your comment & are enjoying it! You’re very smart to start with baby steps - I have made some recent mistakes in going a bit overboard last year with wanting to make some Christmas decor for essentially my first time even though I have been crafting for at least 55 years fairly regularly. Despite that, I love crafting!
I love your beginning of the year tool recommendations and what you use. The awl, I use mine "awl" the time, for punching holes in paper and starting a hole for a screw, to using it to take paint from in-between the crates and shiplap woods. It's a pretty awlsome tool I use.👍😘
These were ALL new to me except the miter pliers which I have but haven’t used. Probably because I haven’t crafted in awhile! Hope to get back to it soon. Good seeing you and thanks!!☺️
I knew your awl would be there!! The one tool I don't have in my craft room!! Lol! I absolutely love the idea of the nail polish holders for the bottles of paint or glue that we could put in there to keep it flowing. I do not have them, but will get those as well. The tube holders that you were showing like to use for toothpaste I do not have, but will probably get them as well because that will help me in pushing up the glue from the tubes. In all, I have (or my hubby has) most of everything that you have mentioned. I think this video was very informative and very helpful for all of us crafters. Thank you so much for putting this together Courtney! You rock!❤
I love that you go through and tell us what tools and crafting supplies you use most of so we don't have a bunch of things we don't really need.. thank you
Nice! I'm in pretty good shape. I really needed the recommendation on the transfer tape! I've had so much frustration with smart vinyl on my Cricut Joy. I did not know they had Smart transfer tape, so thank you!!! 😊
This is a great video, Courtney, thanks. I haven’t tried it much yet but I did get the same brand of mitre shears after seeing your & others (aka your friends) using it regularly & recommending it. Looking forward to using it! I also have a little glitter vacuum similar to yours. It’s great! My go to’s for essential tools: a really good ruler with a zero center & incremental measurements well marked; various tweezers/clamps, magnifying glass or glasses (I have a clip-on pair that I can clip to my regular glasses), some type of desktop lighting, & a telescopic magnet for picking up dropped metal items like screws, paper clips. Favourite general supplies: stickers, sewing buttons, double sided tape & foam squares, glue dot type adhesives, adhesive tape runner, painters tape, washi tape, +++ so many other indispensable items. Looking forward to your organizational tips / craft space video!
I don't have an awl, but I do have an ice pick which basically is the same and have used it many times. Love the silicone mats. Have almost all of these tools except a miter saw and brad nail. Maybe this year. Thanks for sharing. Have an awesome evening.
I have a mini tabletop Saw its electric and it's a game changer. It does however have its limitations like if I'm using wood that's taller than the blade I have to sometimes flip it back and forth to get a straight cut but it's so much better than having to use the hand saw in the miter box.
thank you for sharing this. I think the "pokey" tool is the best all around tool in my room. Mine is actually an ice pick I found at the thrift store. Great suggestions and and definately a few added to my wish list.
Definitely love my awls also! Have a list for miter shears, table top vacuum, and mini heat press. I have also fell in love with the "fake" sprinkles!! I hope to get a circuit this year as well! TFS always love to know go-to things for everyone in crafting world 💫🤍💫🤍
I agree with your choices but would also add a paint scraper tool that is a four or five in one tool and they are also pretty inexpensive. I use it for everything including as a scraper.
Enjoyed this, have most...even the awl😉 I still have not mastered that pin pen, I keep trying lol. Agree, I have the Cricut heat press and mini, I prefer using the mini. TFS💕
An awl is the tool I need . Love my SureBonder glue gun & a silicone mat. Alcohol wipes are great for cleaning glue off scissors, desk tops, etc. Will you do a video about the 3D printer you got?
This video is AWESOME!! I emailed it to myself for the list of all the tools you recommended! And the blade changing video will be so helpful. Good on you, girlfriend! Can’t wait for this year’s craft room organizing video! Last year’s was fantastic!! Keep on keepin’ on, Courtney! LOVE your videos!! And, so happy the newest member of your Pinners team, “ Little Pumpkin” Henry has arrived and that Whit is on the road to recovery!!! The TEAM is on the road to recovery!!! I ordered a package of the cardboard sheets while you were online! Thank you, Courtney❣️❣️❣️ Blessings ❤
Thank you for putting out this video. Most of the Items I have. I sold my Cricut maker and looking forward to getting the new Cricut Joy. I never thought of using those knife pens to weed with. I don't know what a awl is but will look into it.
Thank you Courtney. I appreciate this video as you have a great list at different price points. I need the awl. I’d forgotten them but my dad always kept one around. I’ve wanted miter sheers for a couple years but I’m afraid my hands just couldn’t handle them now, sigh, old Arthur does play nice. Thanks for the list.😊❤
Thank you so much for this video. As it turns out I have all of the things you suggested except the all and the package of cardboard. Guess what I’m going to be buying?❤
This was great! Don’t have beads…but I am embarrassed by my ribbon stash in 3 large bins. 😂 I just purchased a circuit joy… I’m a beginner so I thought I would start there. Loved your video…thanks!
Great info and yes, appreciate not being overwhelmed. Just got a cricut 3 explore so looking forward to mastering that and I was just wondering about basic tools 😊
My favorite tool right now is my sister’s cordless drill! I have 2 craft drills(electric) and 3 hand drills and none of them beat my sister’s cordless drill!
I have a miter saw, and I absolutely love it! But sometimes I just need a small cut, and I really love my miter box. There is a bit of a learning curve mostly how to keep it stable but once you figure that out add some elbow grease and I can cut in seconds without having to drag out my miter saw 😊
Thank you Courtney!! Working on the power tool fear 😂! I have quit a few of the things you mentioned and you are right about miter shears!! Have a great weekend!!! Thank you for sharing!!
Many, many thanks, Courtney…I have taken good notes and need to revisit my supplies and see what I need to purchase. Love following your techniques sooo much!🌹🌹🌹🌹
This is a great video and I look forward to your recommendations every year! I can't wait to see what your craft room organization video is like this year. It is one of my favorites as well! Looking forward to all your diys this year!
I really enjoyed this video, Courtney. Thank you for sharing what works best for you. Choosing supplies can be overwhelming when there are so many options. It's really hard for people who don't have anyone close to them that they can ask what they prefer. I just wonder if some newer viewers or crafters know what can be done with some of the supplies or tools you mentioned? The paper holder and cutter for the Cricut only works for the Maker 3, right?
Happy New Year Pretty Lady!! Love your craft necessities videos, I've gotten and love quite a few items from them! Can't wait to see your craft room video!❤️🙏🏾
Happy New Year, Courtney ,to you & your family!🎉❤️🥂 I do have glue guns, but I do not have the cordless glue gun yet! I do have an awl!😊 I keep lots of wood beads, tumbling tower blocks, and twine in my stash, too!😊 I love your hack of using a nail polish holder for our small bottles of glue, paint, ect.😊 I love my silicone mats!!!❤ As always, Courtney, thank you so much for sharing your favorite craft supplies and gadgets with us!❤ I can't wait to see your craft room make-over!❤ Stay safe, healthy, and positive! GOD bless you and your family!🙏❤️🇺🇲😊
Thank you Courtney! I’m eventually going to get a miter saw, I have a mini one. I don’t have a cricket either but it’s on my list, I have most of the others! Love your list though, it helps to see what others have! ❤❤❤
Great info..I'm happy to say I was checking off my inventory as you spoke & I'm good to go. 😂 Thanks for the cricut info also. I got a Cricut Joy for Christmas & super excited to learn how to use it.
Love the idea of the polish holder for glue & paint. My favorite weeding tool is from the dollar tree I’m not sure what it’s actually used for, but they are pink and come 2 in a pack. They have a pointed end and the other end is like a bone folder (slanted & flat) I reuse transfer tape over and over (I place it on it’s backing) until it’s not sticky anymore.
I like to use clear Contact paper on my vinyl placement. I too tried the paper tape but had a hard time getting anything on straight since I can't seen through it. Thanks for all the helpful info. Oh and Congrats on hitting 150K subscribers!
Hi Courtney, I've lost track of how many awls I have in my house. I keep them in a variety of places so I don't have to go looking for them. I have also gifted them to my grown children who have homes of their own. I've even gifted several to my spouse so he doesn't take mine and leave them where I can't find them. 😅
Hey, Courtney. I have a wood handled awl that belonged to my Dad and maybe even my grandfather. The miter schears are one of my favorite tools (purchased at your recommendation). After speaking with you at Pinner's, I'm going to purchase the Wagner Heat Gun next. The PinPen from 143 Vinyl has a 5 year warranty, which is great. Otherwise, I've been following you for so long that I've bought all the ones you recommended. Thanks! BTW, where did you buy your Tv recliner? Need to know. ;) ❤❤
@10:20 container to hold glue bottles upside down. I bought a shot glass at Goodwill for 50 cents. The tall ones were $1. Works well. I've had a Teflon mat for years, would use in place of silicone mat, but about to donate it, I don't use. I make greeting cards only.
Courtney, I always love your craft tools video. Seems like many TH-camrs are putting aside the miter sheers in favor of using the tin snips. My husband just does not appreciate the cost/usefulness of the miter sheers and has really discouraged me from getting one. I think that I will just go for the tin snips since they are cheaper. I really want to find a love for glue guns, but the high humidity where we live can really turn a craft project with glue gun glue into a pile of junk. Any suggestions on when it might be appropriate to use that type of glue. Totally love having a heat gun available for crafting, etc. Also, would love to find a good quality silicone mat that is larger (than the set from Walmart) for my craft table. Can you recommend one? I totally agree with you about the heat press mini. Happy New Year!
I live in Houston, so I totally understand the high humidity. I don't have any issues the the Surebonder construction grade glue sticks. I order all my big mats from Amazon. I've ordered a 26x30 from there and it works well when I have a big project I am working on.
Hi Courtney! These are all fantastic ideas! My question for you is about the Cricut. I’ve been a crafter for years but never owned a Cricut but now I’m considering getting one. I want super simple, easy to use and understand. I am not a techie person and I’m pretty intimidated by all this. I really only want to use it for sign making- small signs and projects. What do you think? Thank you so much for your help! ❤
Hi! If you are wanting small signs, I would say the Cricut Joy Xtra would be the way to go. The Cricut Design Space software is fairly easy to pick up especially for simple projects and you can use it on a phone, tablet, or computer.

My husband actually got me a glue gun that adapts to a DeWalt battery
because he has SEVERAL batteries so they are cordless. I love it!
Cordless is the way to go!
Thank you for sharing your must-have crafting tools.
Thank you, Courtney.
I love it when you do this video each year. I'm sure it's a lot of work and I for one appreciate it 😊
Thank you so much!

Thank you! Those are great items to have! The organizational video will be coming next week!
I don't have an awl, but I do have an ice pick which basically is the same and have used it many times. Love the silicone mats. Have almost all of these tools except a miter saw and brad nail. Maybe this year. Thanks for sharing. Have an awesome evening.
Yes, an ice pick will do the trick!
I have a mini tabletop Saw its electric and it's a game changer. It does however have its limitations like if I'm using wood that's taller than the blade I have to sometimes flip it back and forth to get a straight cut but it's so much better than having to use the hand saw in the miter box.

You’re welcome! So glad it was helpful!
Thank you for putting how to change the miter blade I have looked everywhere for the instructions. I need to get the awl.
thank you for sharing this. I think the "pokey" tool is the best all around tool in my room. Mine is actually an ice pick I found at the thrift store. Great suggestions and and definately a few added to my wish list.
Thank you for sharing some of your favorite crafting supplies. I'm adding a few of these to my wishlist.
Loved your tips! I had such a bad experience with miter shears that I threw out & was afraid to use again. Enjoyed the video 😀
Great video thanks for the info! Especially the heat gun with the stand, being hands free would be awesome!
This was great ❤ I'm just starting to craft and you gave me a lot of food for thought. Thank you. Can't wait to see what's next!❤
I am so glad you found it helpful!

Jamie, the DIY guy recommends linesmen pliers. He says they cut through the toughest florals. I got one for Christmas but have not used it yet. Nancy
I agree with your choices but would also add a paint scraper tool that is a four or five in one tool and they are also pretty inexpensive. I use it for everything including as a scraper.
That is a good suggestion! I use mine quite a bit especially when I am trying to get that pesky glue off DT items. 😆
Enjoyed this, have most...even the awl😉 I still have not mastered that pin pen, I keep trying lol.
Agree, I have the Cricut heat press and mini, I prefer using the mini. TFS💕
👌🏾Ditto, The mini is just so much more versatile!❤️🙏🏾
An awl is the tool I need . Love my SureBonder glue gun & a silicone mat. Alcohol wipes are great for cleaning glue off scissors, desk tops, etc. Will you do a video about the 3D printer you got?
Yes! I am currently using my 3D printer to make organization things for my craft room. So you will see it!
This video is AWESOME!! I emailed it to myself for the list of all the tools you recommended! And the blade changing video will be so helpful. Good on you, girlfriend! The craftsman brad nailer is a game changer. My husband loves it for his woodworking and home improvement projects as well.
I’d also add..bone folder and brayer
100%

Oh, i forgot, I recently purchased a Zoid rolling blade cutter at Dollar Tree for $1.25. Best idea ever for cutting paper and vinyl.
Thank for the run down. I have none of those. I guess I need to go shopping.
Thank you so much for this video. As it turns out I have all of the things you suggested except the all and the package of cardboard. Guess what I’m going to be buying?❤
I’m so glad you liked the video and that you have so many of the items! I think you’ll really love the cardboard!

I love my Surebonder detailed glue gun!!!
I have a miter saw, and I absolutely love it! But sometimes I just need a small cut, and I really love my miter box. There is a bit of a learning curve mostly how to keep it stable but once you figure that out add some elbow grease and I can cut in seconds without having to drag out my miter saw 😊
A miter box is a great tool to have as well!
Great craft supplies video. I have dome of these tools for my crafts.
Thanks for sharing! ❤
Thanks for sharing this video. Very helpful!
Thanks for sharing Courtney! My newest favorite crafting item is my Posca paint pens. They are phenomenal!

Oh Courtney, I can't wait to try the Circuit Transfer Tape! I have been on a similar quest---seems like you may have found the Holy Grail!
Thanks for the information.
Many, many thanks, Courtney…I have taken good notes and need to revisit my supplies and see what I need to purchase. Love following your techniques sooo much!🌹🌹🌹🌹

Yay to the Miter saw!
One of my must haves is a really good pair of scissors

Hey, Courtney. I have a wood handled awl that belonged to my Dad and maybe even my grandfather. The miter schears are one of my favorite tools (purchased at your recommendation). After speaking with you at Pinner's, I'm going to purchase the Wagner Heat Gun next. The PinPen from 143 Vinyl has a 5 year warranty, which is great. Otherwise, I've been following you for so long that I've bought all the ones you recommended. Thanks! BTW, where did you buy your Tv recliner? Need to know. ;) ❤❤
Thank you! I got it from Flexispot! Here are the details: bit.ly/4eafb2X
Use Code: XDT50 for $50 off!
@10:20 container to hold glue bottles upside down. I bought a shot glass at Goodwill for 50 cents. The tall ones were $1. Works well. I've had a Teflon mat for years, would use in place of silicone mat, but about to donate it, I don't use. I make greeting cards only.
Great idea!
I love my awl! Even though I don’t know how many times I’ve actually made holes in my thumb, ouch😢!
Love my Brad nailer
I've ordered a 26x30 from there and it works well when I have a big project I am working on.
thanks this is very interesting video enjoyed all your information that you provided thanks again
I’m happy it was helpful!
The cricut! I have a silhouette and i love it im on my second one❤❤❤
I think you had a pair of Tin snips. What is the brand that you might recommend?
I like the Craftsman Aviator Tin Snips. I have my exact ones linked in description box if you want to check out more details about them.
@ Thanks so much. Courtney! I’ll definitely check into it. ♥️
