Very true , I diversified my $400K portfolio across multiple market with the aid of an investment advisor, I have been able to generate over $900k in net profit across high dividend yield stocks, ETF and bonds in few months.

Canada has an extremely concentrated economy - Real estate, banking (which relies heavily on real estate), and resources (which the Prime minister is trying to destroy). As a Canadian who already owns his house in Canada and is also employed in Canada, it'd be insane being also heavily weighted Canadian equities. It's one thing if your equity exposure is 10% in Canada but any more than that would be high risk.

  • @sirwolly

Well, one thing for us Canadians is that canadian companies pay eligible dividends which is so much more income tax friendly. This is an important point when you live of your investments.

Exactly. Sucks for Gen X and the leftover boomers right now. Ironically most millenials and Gen z feel like we're screwed but if we are able to invest a bit of leftover money at the end of the month oh nigh dividend stocks by the time it's our turn to retire the sheer size of the generation will bring a big boom to those stocks when we millenials are in our 40-50s. Our cost of living is so high but if we can dollar cost average even 50-100 dollars left over every month over the next 20-30 years it's gonna be quite promising.
      My two cents

how many more times do "experts" advise us to run. All the most famous and succesful investors agree you ignore the volatility and stay invested, check in every once in a while to rebalance. CIBC telling us to run out of markets while they gave mortgages of seven figures to people making 40k per year.... hypocrisy.

Long term I am not concerned. Tough for people retiring in the next couple of years though. Maybe that is part of the plan. Keep them working longer so the system does not collapse. We will have political and social change soon. I see things getting better in a couple of years. People will get fed up soon enough, policy will change.

So if you buy 200k in US index and it goes down 20% you're left with 160k.
You put 200k down and buy 1mill house you are leveraged 4x. House goes down 20% you lost 100% of your equity. If you sell, you lose another 50k in taxes, fees, commission, layer fees.
But real estate never goes down....😂

Low Interest Rates is what caused these problems with the Canadian economy. Inflation is under+reported and still raining rampant.
The Canadian dollar will lose value to USD if Canada doesn't match interest rates. This would increase inflation for both consumers send business.
Jim Thorne wants inflation to continue running rampant, because he'll make more money.

The Bank of Canada has no other choice but to increase interest rates. They have printed so much money to finance the Liberal governments bloated bureaucracy and excessively wasteful "green programs". We have not had this much National debt since world war two. Interest rates are the only way to claw back the humungous amounts of cash circulating in the banking system. Historically speaking, when bond rates hit 6% there is no reason for investors to put their money in the risky stock market.

I'm looking for solid short-term profits through market corrections and would definitely join in if I knew a thing or two about day trading, but then again, what do I really know? These market uncertainties are why I don't base my judgments and decisions in the market on rumors and hearsay. I got the best of me in 2020 which made me occupy a worthless position in the market, I had to reorganize my entire portfolio using an advisor, before I started to see significant results happen in my portfolio. I am still using the same advisor and I have netted over $1.5 million in 2 years, whether it's a bull or bear market, both generate good profits, it all depends on where you're looking.

We're already in the recession cycle and even worse, we're in stagflation. Rate cuts will come the day we're so deep in the hole that we need QE to get out of it. And it will take years of recovery.
