I am a combat vet and I appreciate this patriotic gardening video. I live in the Smokey Mountains region of East Tennessee, so this video was particularly helpful to me. I have an old, creepy house with a little land and an adopted black cat, pumpkin mounds will be the perfect addition for our Autumn home.
Gregory Hadley Ha! I was just saying we live in East Tennessee, we have a small home but a large piece of land with several mountain ranges behind it. There is an old wood mill that used to take lumber from the mountains. All sorts of bottles and collectibles in there!!! We love where we moved!
Gregory Hadley But back to behind the barn, at the bottom near the creek are the remains of an old wood mill and brick and mortar building from the late 1800’s. There are bottles 100% preserved under the clay that has accumulated. Some filled with honey still, some Coca-Cola, some just no writing but TN, and have liquor in them which is more like gasoline now 😂. Amazing how things can be preserved!!!
Thank you for your service Hadley! Tennessee is a pleasant place. I spent some time in Clarksville two of my kids were born there, I was to busy to enjoy it but sure did love it.
oh my word, you were born the same year my sweet husband and I were married - three months after I graduated! Aug 30, 1973 - one of my favorite days in history!
Iv been gardening for four years and I'm going to get my dirt from the woods this year to see how it does. It makes the most sence to me and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one.
l just came over from your homemade Japanese beetle trap video. What a great idea with the sled. I see lots of potential applications. Thanks for the reminder to get those pumpkins in, consider me subscribed.
thanks for the fine education and simple humility thanks for your service i was born in 1956 and i learn something from you and your fine family every time almost wet myself the time your son spoke about mom's happiness while picking in the garden!
Since my elderly Mom has taken few steps back due to her 98 th year I will get another small pumpkin and we will cut it in her room at the nursing home. We were raised eating pumpkin jam I get her also hold it and smell and i will take it home cook it for her enjoyment And return with a baby jar and take some family pictures. For all future generations. The pure joys of life. Thanks for allowing me the privilege to pour my heart..you have a real pot of gold at the of your 🌈....
You both are AWESOME! I am in Oregon off the coast N of Newport. I just find you and so happy I did!! Your teaching people how to garden SMART! I love it!
You guys are so sweet, love that she's "the most beautiful woman in the world!" Thank you for this video, I planted my pumpkins last week, they probably won't be ready for Halloween but it'll be fun to watch them grow anyway. Maybe they'll be ready in time as porch decor for Thanksgiving!
Amazing video Brother! Thanks for all the information, I planted pumpkin seeds for the first time in June of this year, I'm in Brooklyn, NY. Hopefully I'll get some beautiful pumpkins for Halloween! Just subbed!!!
Great informative video, I will plan for the next July. I know the feeling you get in the garden and especially the black soil that smells very earthy and rich. I enjoy the smell of fresh cut grass and the outdoors minus the carbon, I like the quiet to where I can hear birds sing and leaves on trees blow. Your video was comforting. Great thanks to you and your wife. Thank you for your service battle!
This is one of the most down-to-earth videos I've ever seen! I usually work as a photographer/content creator, chasing the recent advanced edited videos with "swoosh" "woosh" effects! :D Drawing back and just watching a simple and very natural video like this made me so joyous and calm! I thank you sincerely for that! I absolutely love this! Keep up the good work and I will be looking forward to plant some pumpkins today! :) Love and greetings from Sweden! :)
Thank you for demonstrating proper pumpkin seed planting, my hubby and I are planning to leave california and have a farm near Eugene Or...we would love to have a punkin patch for the local children to come visit...God Bless You and your family!
Awesome video! I forgot what I was here for halfway through the video. I was digging into all the good info you gave before you got to the pumpkin mounds!
That first item you showed looks like it could be a piece of some stone wear. Like those brown and tan pottery jugs. No idea on the age but you see them frequently in antique shops.
Drop a bunch of wood chips there... it will take a season, but it would add a lot to the soil. It will help with aeration, moisture retention, and nutrients. It will raise the acidity of the soil for a bit, but some lime will counteract it easily.
I'm in South Central PA and I always plant around July 4th. Right after I dig up my potatoes, I break out the cow dung and plant the pumpkins. By second week of October, sometimes late September, (go figure that weirdness) I've got lots and lots of Halloween décor.
HEYYYYY KEVIN!!!!!! IT'S 2021 !!! LOL I WENT THROUGH ALL YOUR VIDEOS AND FOUND THE VERY FIRST ONE I EVER WATCHED!!! IT'S THIS ONE ABOUT PLANTING PUMPKINS... HA HA
As you know, Euphrates flows through Syria and Iraq to join the Tigris together they formed the fertile Crescent which made Western civilization possible. I hope to buy had a price of property that have three water sources, what a wonderful resource.
Awesome video bud!! If i may give a couple suggestions on how to richen that soil, all natural. Get woodchips from a fresh cut tree, and dig random holes in the garden area. Bury handfulls of chips and recover with the original soil. Also if you have a dog, bury the dog poop in the garden. Water heavily. unless plenty of rain. let sit a few days. Turn the dirt every week and spread the dirt into spots lacking the chips or poop. It'll all break down fast and provide plenty of nutrition to the soil. After doing this for a couple weeks and further, you won't have to do much just keep up on weeds growing. try it out, and i bet you'll have the best soil in town 👍
I need pumpkins for mid November I'm in South Mississippi and have great soil, I just grew a bunch of mammoth sunflowers that are blooming now so it's been a good season for me even through the heat, but do you think it is too late for me to plant some pumpkins?
My seeds sprouted up in like 2 days, now a week later they're already about a foot out, I am so surprised, I wasn't ready for them to do that,i was still working on my 3 sisters planting thing, my corn isn't coming so quickly, green beans are already going up the fence I've got a couple feet away, they just reached over to that instantly before I got my poles up after realizing my corn would take more work and time I guess. Idk. My pumpkins though are what I'm most excited about though, and they're off to an awesome start. I'm just wondering though, I planted 4 seeds in each mound, do I need to spread them out or will they be ok with all 4 growing out of the one mound, the mounds are far apart, but the 4 in one mound are fairly close to each other
Nice video. I can offer you maybe some helpful advice. Go to your local village and check with them about getting the black gold you referred to. Sometimes it’s free, or super cheap and you can mix it in with your clay soil! Before long you will have the same soil as your Mesopotamian patch!
I’m in a mess my pumpkins were accidentally killed I have only one plant left rowing I started in June 😭 so I’m planting mini pumpkins an hoping my one plant makes more then one pumpkin. The one plant has a pumpkin growing I’m just shocked this happened but nothing we can do. The fence installer was very sorry they accidentally dropped the load of fence on top of the path by the time my husband realized it was to late for them to come back and move it if the patch.
We live on a similar property. Out behind the barn there is a large mountain, at the bottom is a creek, we take our soil from there, but we find spear points, pottery, even old sea crustaceans and we are in eastern TN. Anyway, when it comes to the pumpkin, doesn’t it need to have female flowers that become fertilized?
Your soil should be rototilled first before mixing in the richer soil. They make hand tillers that look like very wide pit forks that you can stand on and easily till.
I'm planning on some urban pumpkin farming for a suburb here near Detroit. With the large leaves, is there a danger of large pests like rats finding shelter or collecting around the pumpkin patches? I just don't want to create a hazard for the homeowners. So I suppose rabbits would be OK but mice or rats would get into homes. Thanks!! Your wife is beautiful if I might say.
I’m getting ready to plant pumpkins. Thanks for sharing. That’s so kind what u said about your wife. I’m sure you made her day!

Wow Kevin after I learn how to plant pumpkins I can go directly to watching your woods with you!
I served in Iraq too. I put hay on top of my mounds and around them to keep moisture in and weeds down. North Alabama here. Roll Tide.
Keep enjoying life, you deserve it!

That coca cola bottle makes me imagine two teenage lovers sneaking off to the woods to enjoy a coke together alone. 💖
That’s wholesome as long as they don’t do any dirty things :))

Hey hey what do ya know I was looking into fall planting and good old crazy Lake pops up from 4 yrs ago 😄
I read that to dramatically increase worms in the soil use cornmeal and cardboard or newspaper dug lightly in the dirt

Thank you! Very helpful video.
Was wondering how much water the seeds and plants need?
Awesome! With some words of wisdom
Can I plant them in June? I'm trying to grow them for Halloween and Thanksgiving
You can, but you’ll have to do a little bit earlier Harvesting. You’ll have to harvest a few in around early August.
Well done
Hey!!! I use that exact sled to move stuff around my place! I pull mine with my 4 wheeler.

What zone are you in?
