I’m three months into my surfing journey, finally getting the turn on my long board. I turned and surfed the face of the waves a few times on Sunday. It was exhilarating !!! I sit in the bus on the way to work and watch all your videos. They are a tremendous help. Thanks for all your content!!!
Unreal! Cleared up everything for me. Ive had 2 lessons but this is the clarity i needed! Cant wait to get out there again and try the oreo and pretent i am riding a bike for stability. Will report back! Also i was carrying the board wrong! Doh!
I kick ball strongly with my right foot, but i feel comfortably to positioning my right foot at the front?i feel strongly balance that way. How does this works?? And i have surf almost like 25 years now
A really excellent intro to surfing. I am particularly impressed with the separation of catching waves and popping up. Oh and the kettle bell demonstration.
This video should help a lot of the "noobs". Three other things it would be helpful to include: 1. How to turtle that big foamie to avoid getting tumbled in the whitewater. 2. How to sit on the tail, looking outward to watch the waves and other surfers, and PIVOT the board around quickly to paddle for a wave. I see so many beginners just lying down facing the beach, unable to see or react to the "traffic " around them - SO dangerous! 3. IMHO you should have mentioned the cardinal rule of safety and etiquette- watching which direction the wave is breaking, and NOT paddling in front of anyone who is coming down the line toward you! (AKA dropping in.) Also, paddling out wide of the peak, and if faced with a surfer riding toward you at close range going BEHIND them under the whitewater. (I help noobs with all of the above almost every time I surf.)
This is a KILLER video! Thank you so much guys for making this tutorial!! I’m self-learning how to surf from TH-cam and by far, this is the best video and best tips 🙌🏽
If you are looking for a tropical beach where you can learn surf safely, try Weligama beach in Sri Lanka. Our place is just opposite the best surf spot, looking forward to seeing you 😁
Interesting! Im very ambidextrous depending on the sport. I was taught with a different pop up and was most comfortable goofy, which worked well for me on slow rolling waves. But I’ve been struggling popping up with the fast steep waves where I live in NorCal. With this pop up, I feel better traditional. So I’m gonna give this a go, then figure out if this way is more reliable for me. Then see if I can stick with it! Thank you!! Any further advice for a chick that feels comfortable in both stances would be appreciated. I don’t want to advance to turns and stuff and realize I need to switch back to goofy (for example).
I kick everything with my right leg. But I skate, surf, and snow board goofy footed. Meaning my left leg is back. There is a better way to tell. Use your brain and see which way you are comfortable. I also find it hard to believe you have lived your entire life and never hopped on a skateboard.
Wow. Takes a full 2 minutes before we learn anything. And even then it’s made as confusing as possible. Stop churning out gobble hook. Communication takes thought.

Even a kettlebell can catch a wave and I can't.
