- In this video we show how to remove the battery on a 2015 Ford Transit. The battery is located underneath the driver seat and requires several simple steps to obtain access to the battery and remove it.

Right? I just did this and suddenly, removing the wheel to replace the battery on a dodge stratus isn't so bad. Lol
Seriously thank you for your good attitude in this. It’s like hey we’re going to remove a battery on a Ford transit. Start by cutting off the body on the car then remove all the glass and separate make sure that you have your weather strips in a Ziploc bag and labeled. Then you will want to get a hoist to pull the entire engine out and separate from transmission get those on the bench. Soon we will talk about the beginning steps of starting to remove the battery
wonderful! since i have a metal partition right behind the seats this would go from huge pain in the ass to virtually impossible....thank you Ford! I did at least leaern today where the negative terminal is under the hood - pure crazy again!
Same here. Then add that there are two of them and because they are in the cab they are expensive as well
Good Lord Ford....what a way to make things extra hard for something that used to be so simple....I can only imagine the contraptions you will need just to change a tire on this thing.
its a simple 50 step process ...just to remove the freaking battery !!!!

As much as I dislike this battery arrangement, on the Transit series they are obviously prioritizing the volume of the back, so they shove the seats are far forward as possible. For contractors needing maximum volume in the back, they will buy whichever brand does the best at this.
Love your Transit videos. Wife and I have been thinking of ditching our Honda Odyssey for a 12 passenger Transit. We have 3 kids with one on the way and love to go on road trips.

Since mine has 2 batteries, 3.2 diesel, no room to rotate battery. I am on my own on that part. The battery saver part means the electrical system is never off when engine is off.

This is the stupidest place to locate a battery and the seat height cannot be adjusted, which causes the front of the seat to cut off the circulation to my legs. This is a company van so I have no choice of a vehicle to drive. Very poor design for a van that will spend a lot of time on the road with the driver being as uncomfortable as possible.

Hi. Have a question. I have a ford transit van 2014, 2.2 engine. I need to change the battery, but I think I saw 2 batteries.
My Question is:
1 battery is part of the van ? Do I need to change 1 or 2 ? This is a stop start battery.

Same set up on m6 2019. Except the bolts are Torx 40
Putting the battery under the seat and the gas tank under the battery helps you to no longer exist when you have a wreck. Plus having all the weight of the battery and gas tank on the same side can't be great, the battery should have at least been put under the passenger seat. On my 2016 Escape, to change the battery, you have to remove the windshield wiper arms, remove the plastic air ducts under the wiper arms just to get to the battery, not sure what grade Ford Engineers graduated from, but I am thinking about 3rd grade.
Nice video. Have you tried replacing the auxiliary outlet fuses located under the steering wheel? They are in a really awkward place where I can't get a hold of them. I have three outlets in my van and none of them work.
I actually did have to replace a fuse I blew. I do recall it being somewhat awkward. Did you check out the user manual? There is a good listing of what each fuse protects (I show this in th-cam.com/video/wb3Dq4NM3QY/w-d-xo.html). There is another fuse box under the hood of the van so perhaps the fuse you blew is located there instead. Thanks for watching!
@@ChristopherLum According to the owner's manual, I believe the fuse or fuses I have to replace are in the passenger compartment fuse box; fuses F47, F48, and or F49. I see the fuses but, I can't get to them because they are squared and flush in the fuse box.
So those are the fuses that are responsible for the outlets. It turned out that my phone charger didn't work. The outlets were all fine.

I am turning my Transit 250 into camper. Right now I have solar charging my vsn battery. I have a 100Ahr liFePo that I want to connect solar.
Do I disconnect the solar from the van battery?
Then I can connect the solar to the house battery.
Am I thinking correctly about this switch.

I have to remove my battery to get it tested. This video helped immensely! POST front end accident... There's a mystery drain on the battery, OR, the battery is old. I keep getting the tend belt minder alert. Also the van won't start if sitting longer than 2 days.
How are you supposed to change this if you have a work van with the metal divider behind the driver and passenger seat?
The silver bolt you pointed to is not the negative connection.

The internet is screwed up. There is a difference between the Ford Transit Connect and the Ford Transit. However the web interchanges the two names as if the vans are the same.
EVERY TIME I search for Transit, I get 20x as many Transit Connects as real Transits. Despite the fact that the real Transit has been around for like 50 years longer.
Why remove the two Torx bolts at the front of the seat, they appear to have nothing to do with removing the battery. Aren't those two bolts for removing the seat itself?
Jerry, initially, I thought the exact same thing 😀. It turns out that they actually interfere with a small tab on the seat. If you remove these two bolts, you can actually slide the seat forward by another 1/2". The battery compartment is very tight so any extra room you can get is helpful.
@@ChristopherLum Any time I've had to remove mine or when I installed the extra CCP connections I just removed the seat. One electrical connection, seat belt bolt and four bolts for the seat. Doesn't take long

Why would Ford make it so hard to replace a battery when it used to be so easy. Don't get it. Smart people can be so stupid sometimes it makes no sense to put this battery under a seat that takes so many tools and time to get to. Great video thanks for showing us how to do it
It’s the positive that you don’t want touching things, also what’s the point of taping a terminal that’s not even live anymore.
It would be live in his case since he installed a memory saver into the OBDII to save radio memory , etc... The voltage, one can only assume, that it back feeds into the terminal .
When you’re on the road with your Ford transit and the battery dies, and because you can’t replace it quickly and easily, you will become one of the ‘FOUND ON ROAD DEAD’ victims!

Smart guys know you only need the battery to start the car not to actually run it so you can have somebody jump-started on the jumping points and it should keep itself running without the battery as long as you have a good alternator
Happened to me, that negative jump point is a joke, doesnt work, had to connect to the negative terminal at the battery itself.
Just bought a used Transit cargo. Wanted to look at the date on the battery and confirm it was maintenance free OR had enough water, but I guess Ill just let it die first. Hope it doesnt get low and explode like my wife's car battery did once (the terminals were flush and it had a label over the entire top and I thought it was "maintenance free" but turned out it was not). Every day I have this thing I discover some stupid design flaw like this, depressing.
The Ford Transit is hands down them most awkward vehicle to work on. You have to remove the seat to get to the battery. You have to remove the intake manifold to get at the spark plugs (dont forget to get a new gasket!) and it doesnt even have a dipstick to check the transmission fluid, you just let the transmission break and replace it. The designers had no concept of maintainability; or were ordered not to put any in.
Don't forget the impossible to reach fuse box under the steering wheel

I'm really disappointed in Ford for this ...with just a tiny little bit more effort ???.....they could have made the task REALLY ridiculously difficult and time consuming ..What manner of highly paid vehicle designer puts the battery in such a stupid arse cockamimi idiotic place as this ???? and then makes actually getting at the battery even more time consuming ?????? ..I'm getting this mental picture of the Ford design engineers all getting together and saying " hey lads !!! on this model ? Let's make simply swapping the battery one of the most pain in the arse and pointlessly time consuming jobs that anyone has ever done on a modern vehicle !! come on !!!! It'll be fun !!!! " .......

I have a 2012 mk 7 Transit with two batteries under the seat and even with the seat full forward folded down the space to access them is ridiculously tiny even for a slim person like me!Then you have to unclamp a T bracket under the cables which is a task in itself to remove the nuts and bolts securing it in,the clamp is also VERY close to both of the front battery terminals so precautions must be taken unless you want a firework display.Who the hell had the idea of this design?
Just changed mine and it was far easier to remove the front seat first ,4 bolts thank me later it's a pain in the arse

I have a 2016 Transit 250 with a metal bulk head ! Debating on doing it myself or paying a mechanic ? I think I may remove the seat , then try it . REAL STUPID DESIGN FORD !!!!!!
My bulk head is only held in by like 8 really prominent bolts, havent done it yet but looks like 5 minutes with a socket and a cordless drill and it will come right out; obviously not a Ford design - they would have made you remove the rear axle, the right turn signal bulb, and the stereo first. I may remove it just to clean that area (its a "well-loved" 2015 I just bought).

Why cant you use a set of jumper cables on the "jump" points to a 2nd battery - turn the ignition forward - now your car wont lose memory while you replace the actual battery?
Funny how he skipped the most difficult step at the very end and trying to get that stupid black cover back over and also why the protective cover for the positive battery terminal won't go back in like before.

Who designed this system?? Ford has a list of once easy to manage systems and made them difficult to maintain. Checking transmission fluid levels is another example. I have a ford transit. It is my last Ford. SMH.
