Among their prized possessions was - you guess it! - an Alesis Quadraverb! At some point, when I began to play music as well, I fell in love with this little device, specifically the taj mahal setting. Quadraverb GT is my favorite FX. I have two of them and a 'non GT' to boot... The editing depth and MIDI control are what really make it something special.
It’s not that you shouldn’t but more that the input of the QV is a line level input. Alesis made the GT version of this though that had an input that was more matched to relatively weak guitar pickups...
@@DanBakerMusic You motivated me to d/l the manual. It says, “The Alexis Quadraverb has high impedance inputs that are ideally suited for use either with instruments or line level signals.” It goes on to say that *microphones* should go through a mixing console. I never noticed my guitar level being low or noisy. I think it may be the case that the GT version just has some effects just used on guitar?
New owner of an old until, very efficient video, thank you...i just don't think we ever got around to the bypass & advance plug in the back, or maybe I missed it. What the heck are those?!
Alesis is a great company. You should listen to the S4 sound module as that has some excellent patches in it. 1. These were budget units, list price was something around $499-599 US. Amazing programmability/capability for the price back then! (Alesis had cheaper, simpler, non-programmable models , too. This was their top of line.) 2. You missed THE COOLEST feature: PRESSURE-SENSITIVE +/- buttons, the harder you pressed, the faster the values changed! Great video!!! I have two! A quadraverb plus and a quadraverb gt( guitar version) both programmed with EFTP, Echoes From The Past! For Shadows music. Great units, very reliable ound great! Also have a Midiverb and a modern Nanoverb Lol!
Lovely review, I had one in my guitar rack when they first came out and actually recently got another one (because nostalgia) and you don't need a degree in technology to get some serious niceness out of it between a preamp and a power amp. :)
I bought my QV GT in 1990, and it still works fine today. I gigged with it using an ART X11 midi footswitch for 15 years with no problems. I hated pedals, 9V batteries, wall warts, and patch cords. I wasn't a natural performer on stage, so I appreciated easy one or two touch patch changes. I found the Alesis much easier to dial in good sounding patches than the competing units from ART, Digitech, or Korg. Never used the factory patches.
Hi I heartily agree with everything you've stated and demo'd on the unit. I have two - one straight quadraverb and the other a quadraverb GT - I still haven't really got them working in my home setup...yet! Both of the units were private sales one ebay that cost me £55 and the other £65. The absolutely rock.
I still have two of these units from my stage rig back in the day. Having four simultaneous effects was quite something in 1989. The only reason I don't still use them is that they're quite noisy.
Do you have a video of how to connect the Quad from guitar to an amp, and also how to run other pedals connections through it to get the best sound if possible. I just dusted one off but not sure how to properly connect it.
Thanks so much for this! I just bought one, and am playing around with it now. I've got synths, vocals, and other strange instruments to run through it. One thing I am unsure of, is how you hooked it up initially to that board. In and out? I've got mine hooked up but am only getting sound out of one speaker, so I must be doing something wrong or there is something wrong with the unit. Thanks!
Hi Dan, I'm so desparate to know how to set up of my vocal sound for indoor and outdoor through the Alesis Quadra verb you demo there, if you can show me , very appreciated you for that

Thanks for this deep dive 👍 Bought one from a used shop about 10 years ago for $80 - still working perfectly, but I didn’t know about the “Sampler” function 😮 Mine is labeled a regular Quadraverb on the face, but the display shows “ALESIS QUADRAVERB Plus”, then “(C) 1989” when powered on, so I presume it was upgraded to the “2.0” version by a previous owner?
Wow, that is a really sweet reverb! and a powerful multi-effects processor...and very clean - thanks for making this demo! I think I'm going to get one for my digital harpsichord sample set which needs natural sounding reverb on Hauptwerk.
Hi, how many effects can it handle at the same time? Is it possible to place the parametric eq together with a reverb? Is the fact that it is not "true stereo" a problem? Thanks
Hi there-single cable from aux send 1 on the 1202 into the left input on QV, and then you can bring the two outputs of the QV back on one of your stereo channels on the 1202. Make sure you have aux 1 turned down on the return channel of the 1202, but you can get some pretty cool effects by feeding the QV back on itself on some patches!
Hey Dan! Amazing video . . . Question: Using the quadraverb sample function, can I record a kick drum sample that would play when I strike a string? Playing upright bass and want to trigger a kick drum when I pluck my string. Thanks!!!
I have two of these in my live rig and I love them. Like you I have had one of them for almost 30 years. I actually am looking for another one right now for my home studio. They sound fantastic and are reliable. Only problem I am having is that the displays are starting to fade out. But I found some plug and play OLED displays on Reverb that I am going to try. There is also a cool setting I think called Stereo Split in the 60's I think that sounds really cool for vocals or drums. I love my Quadraverb!
The Quadraverb is a peach! Yes - the displays are pickly, but because of the age of the unit, it's reasonably straightforward to change them, and there are lots of new displays on offer..
@@DanBakerMusic yes I just bought a new LCD on Reverb for $25, took me 15 minutes to change it out. Dark blue. Looks the best it's ever looked! Thx for the reply!
Gday Dan, I purchased one of these over the weekend, running it through my Fishman loudbox mini plugged into a Maton 808. The sound is wonderful and lush, great purchase based on your review. Any chance you could do a tutorial on how to edit the factory presets and then store them? Thanks for the great review. cheers Brendan
I have probably mixed several thousand tracks using at least one Quadrabverb! I have done Black Sabbath, Faces, Alice Cooper, Sly Stone, The Who, Fiona Apple, The Eagles, Van Halen, Aretha Franklin etc etc etc - tons of reissue projects. It REALLY helps to have the 2.0 software chip installed. This takes all the processing used for the 4 effects and uses it all on the one effect - a better reverb. It also does ring modulation and resonant filters with this software chip. I don't think you can tell which Quadraverb is the 2.0 without going into the menus. I own 4 of these now (and 3 original Microverbs - the first one) and they are GOLD to me.
Nice! They are instantly useable and have a sound of their own. For me it’s just keeping signal levels up so they don’t sound too noisy... I’ve got a microverb somewhere: even easier-just twist the preset and go!
Ok cool. Today I picked up the quadraverb. I’m gonna pair it up with the lexicon MX400. The MX 400 is a bit too dry so I’m hoping combining both will give me a good blend.
Can anyone tell me how to change from Reverb to Delay To Pitch on a Quadraverb using a foot switch ? I purchased a Boss FC-50 Midi Foot controller and can’t figure out how to use it. All I wanted to do was be able to switch from delay to reverb to pitch to eq to flange using a footswitch playing live
You’ll only be able to do that if you have three different patches, then save them in a sequence that will allow you to switch them, using the “advance” connector on the back…
Jeff Buckley used the Quadraverb Plus. No need for the Charlie Hall EFTP presets. The effects he used are all there. The rack is not transparent, the guitar sound is slightly more metallic but very pleasant
Hi! How Do you Reset That Unit To Factory Setting? I had Messed Around With The Program , And Get No Effects Sound Coming Thru. If You Can , Thank You!
Does anyone have any advice for using a standard QV with guitar? As Dan says, it would load the pickup and strip top-end. How can I make a standard QV function close to the GT?
@@Chris-cf2kp Yeah, I heard that too...I'm still not really sure about it though...I'll have to listen to his recordings again...Thanks for reminding me. Have a nice day...
Are you running firmware v2 or is it v1? Just got mine off eBay. The output quality is OK. The lexicon MX200 - 400 sound way better on the out put. The Alesis EQ option awesome. I wish Lexicon would just send out an update adding EQ option to the lexicon. I was hoping to add the Alesis to my setup. But the my plan change after hearing the output quality of the Alesis.
@@DanBakerMusic According to the QV service manual, software versions 2.00 and higher are "Quadraverb Plus" - these include Sampling, Ring Modulator, Resonator, Multi Tap Delay, Auto Panning, and Tremolo. The EPROM inside will probably tell you which version you have!
My unit is labeled a regular Quadraverb on the face, but shows “ALESIS QUADRAVERB Plus” on the display when powered on. I assume that means it was upgraded to “V2” by a previous owner. Hope this helps 👍

Sí, realment, és bonísdima, jo la utilitzo cada dia, va espectacular i sona moooooolt bé.
I got one at the Pawn shop for under $100. I have gigged with it and it sounds great!
I’m too poor to buy a bunch of pedals.
I’ll do that! I’ve got a queue of videos to make...
@@DanBakerMusic thanks mate. cheers Brendan
Just bought one for cheap and was not used in years .It power up right away .Are you using a pre -amp for Guitar and violin ? Thanks for demo !!
It's not the easiest processor to set up, but it's worth it for the results. Very smooth, high quality effects.
Yes, clunky by modern standards for sure. It was amazing at the time though!
Can you help me validate if the alesis midiverb have the option to EQ 12:19 FX the same as alesis quadraverb?
Hi there-I’m not as familiar with the midiverb, but I think it’s only the quadraverb that permits EQing effects...
Ok cool. Today I picked up the quadraverb. I’m gonna pair it up with the lexicon MX400. The MX 400 is a bit too dry so I’m hoping combining both will give me a good blend.
Mine is still in use every day
Can anyone tell me how to change from Reverb to Delay To Pitch on a Quadraverb using a foot switch ? I purchased a Boss FC-50 Midi Foot controller and can’t figure out how to use it. All I wanted to do was be able to switch from delay to reverb to pitch to eq to flange using a footswitch playing live
You’ll only be able to do that if you have three different patches, then save them in a sequence that will allow you to switch them, using the “advance” connector on the back…
So what do you do after the cows come home?
😂
Jeff Buckley used the Quadraverb Plus.
No need for the Charlie Hall EFTP presets.
The effects he used are all there.
The rack is not transparent, the guitar sound is slightly more metallic but very pleasant
fuck this instantly jumped out as amazing quality sound
Hi! How Do you Reset That Unit To Factory Setting? I had Messed Around With The Program , And Get No Effects Sound Coming Thru. If You Can , Thank You!
That I’m not sure. I have a feeling it’s holding the patch up and down buttons together while powering up.
Does anyone have any advice for using a standard QV with guitar? As Dan says, it would load the pickup and strip top-end. How can I make a standard QV function close to the GT?
Love that accent! Dude you can do voice over job for sure!
onzkicg thanks! I do like doing voice overs....
I had it playign and not lookign and thought Michael Caine was telling me about Reverb.
Brilliant video. Thanks for uploading. If you listen to the album Amber by Autechre you can hear the quadraverb all over it!
It sounds so good...
I have a Digitech S100, which I barely used. Looks the same as the Alesis.
I found one of these at the tip! Got it for a fiver, don’t they had a clue what it was, I think Mac Demarco used this on a lot of his old recordings?
Aphex Twin is legendary because of this machine, his first albums were all produced only using this machine as his go to main fx unit. :D
@@Lalaland.001 Jeff Buckley used one through his amps on (all?) his tours and most recordings I think.
@@Chris-cf2kp Yeah, I heard that too...I'm still not really sure about it though...I'll have to listen to his recordings again...Thanks for reminding me. Have a nice day...
Great video, what are these “inches” you mention ? Also are the inputs/outputs balanced ? 👍👍
Does anyone know how to get past the "Basic Program" setting?
Well done!
Galex TP3 I think it’s v1. I’ve certainly never downloaded any other. You’re right about the output quality- “OK” is a good description...

Have 2 alesis quad reverb white shadow s e f t p Like you one 30 years old still very good 👍
Any experience with the Nanoverb 2?
Still use mine when a marshall 6100 30th anniversary amp and midi pedal for switching.
Nice!
is the bypass out for a on/off footswitch?
Yeah
genius
I have this and a 3630 stored away
