This video is great. Especially since Mike just added RDL to my program and I had no idea it was so different to a stiff leg deadlift. Thanks for the awesome work!
Great great video...RDL is my favourite DL variant...however is always a pleasure see your video Eric...thank you! It's such a shame that this channel has a low number of subscriptions
Great video. I especially like the blocking of the knees to show what you're supposed to do; I did that just now in my room to make sure I've had the right form.
It’s not a hamstring isolation exercise. You’re also not training your hamstring properly - part of your hamstring is only worked by leg curls so if you don’t do them you’re missing out.
How far apart should you have your feet? I'd imagine there's an appropriate *range* of foot spacing and too wide would shorten the ROM and the effectiveness of the exercise. I squat with a wide stance (anything more narrow feels uncomfortable to me) but can deadlift with a more narrow stance. Would the RDL ideally look more like a conventional deadlift stance?
I need your help man... I deal with horrific knee pain in my right knee and I’m only 23. I tore my acl in my right leg about five years ago and I’m told I have paterall Tendonitis. They say to make my gluts and hamstrings and everything stronger but I can’t do any exercises with about so much knee pain like this one...
Instructions a little confusing. Should go through full exercise with full ROM a few times after the instructions so that you can demonstrate what you just finished discussing in video. I had to search another video for demonstration to figure out what you were talking about. This video is good if you already generally know what the lift is and are wanting to work on your technique but a little confusing otherwise.
Thank you. I must say i still feel my lower back even though i follow all the cues. Is it normal? I am.not rounding my back i am using only my limited hamstring Rom. I dont feel a very good stretch in my hamstrings , should i load more weight perhaps?
Lower the weight until you feel the stretch really good, then lift back up. Some lower back felt is completely normal. I have a good friend who is on PEDs, his lower back got so sore after a RDL set he had to lie down
Definitely need to work on the technique, lower the weight and really focus on keeping an arched low back, shoulders pulled back, as you go down your trying to touch your asshole to the corner of the wall and ceiling behind you, you should feel your hams ripping out from under your glutes. Try difference stance widths, I find a slightly wider stance helps me target the hams best
@@LukeJohnsonBusiness I just lift in Chucks/Vans and don't know squat about squat shoes. Do they have high heels like weightlifting shoes? That's the only thing I could imagine would be inappropriate here, since, indeed, with RDLs I know some athletes actually create antiweightlifting shoes, elevating their *toes* on small plates, etc. to feel the hamstring stretch more dramatically. If squat shoes are different from weightlifting shoes, what contraindicates them?
Love these tutorials! Eric Helms explains everything with so much clarity :)
AleksFitness glad you enjoyed them. Unfortunately we only have 3 of them 😔
Oh man, the whole thing with the stick and the bench is 'f'ing brilliant
Glad you like it.
These videos feel like Eric is my personal trainer. Keep it up with the serie, it´s amazing. Deserve way more views guys
Alfredo Portocarrero thanks buddy. All shares are welcome 👍
Absolutely outstanding video! It’s highly informative and super helpful. Thank you so much for sharing! 🙌
very welcome. Thank you for commenting and the kind words
I love the tactical cue of using the bench to block the knees! so good!
Glad you liked it. Always great to use the environment you are in to help with cueing. Thanks for commenting.
One of the best hams hip hinge movement. Thank you for sharing, Luke!
you're very welcome
Great video Real clarity in your voice makes it a lot easier to pay attention and understand what you are saying 👍
these videos you do are very good, a good learning curve for people who have been training for many years but memory tends to slip
M Akhtar glad you enjoyed the video.
'a little off topic' for you is soooo 'on topic' for me! Great vid.

AfromanJon glad you liked the video. Glad you could use the tips and implement straight away
outstanding vid. concise. specific. clear. no blabby chatter or ego. thanks.
Excellent. Having the bench in front of the knees to help feel the hip hing is a great idea. Thank you.
Applied this over the weekend. Extremely helpful. Thanks Doc!
I can't find about how to do RDL better than this💪💪.
Thank you
That's gold!!!
Situation3000 thank you 👍

RDL's are my favourite and only hamstring isolation exercise I do.

Any videos on deadlifts ?
Check our most popular videos. Dr Mike Zourdos has a great one on the deadlift

Great video! What is your recommendation on weight progression with these? I’ve heard they aren’t meant to go super heavy? Do you agree?
that motor pattern confusion example 😂
Glad you like it 😂
Why is not 1 video say to brace your abs? Do you not have to brace your abs?

Would you RDL with squat shoes (like Adidas Powerlift)?
Jacob G we wouldn't recommend it.

Captain America
Mina Atef I thought so too
Great information, but those camera changes absolutely sucked! Specially when showing the ginger guy who didn't even know how to handle a camera.
