Seattle planners need to think about the price of housing and how to change that for the better. It's true that many STEM-related employees have high-paying jobs, but that is making things difficult for residents in other fields, because they bid-up the price of rentals and property prices. I know lots of high-rise apartments have already been built, but since Seattle is hemmed-in by bodies of water and there isn't much land available for growth, the only solution seems to be more high-rises. Established residents are going to fight this of course. It changes the quaint character of a city that used to be mostly wood-frame craftsman style houses. I'm heading out from St. Louis to Seattle next month to visit relatives. You say that the winter "builds character". Yes, but it isn't the cold and snow like we have--it's the fact that even if I am there in June it will still be chilly some days. Your winter lasts many months.
I like that it's in the Mountains and surrounded by other cities like Tacoma, Everett, Bellevue, Olympia, Portland... yeah the weather is rough in the winter but the summers ARE THE BEST yo lol...
Black folks all up in Seattle - maybe you know of a different version - half the bars I go to are easily 25% filled with black folks. Seattle freeze? Yup, straight about that - but get a little liquor, people loosen up. Cost? Just really housing/rent, everything seems normal, excluding eggs. What's missing in this video? Commute - 3 miles can take you 30 minutes - so bad in some places, like Bellevue/Redmond, so bad, you don't even go out for groceries until after 8pm - if you did, it can take hours.
Washington is the country's best kept secret. Iykyk seattle is dope and so is your channel. I am a baltimore transplant and this place is heaven....except the deep winter lol

Great video young lady. I'm leaving Seattle today, headed back home to Chicago. Was here a week visiting a good friend of mine, and I am speechless of how beautiful tis city is. Very modern and clean city. I stay in South Loop Chicago, and the U District looks like the perfect neighborhood for me. Is this neighborhood safe?

Fuccin love Seatlle went there last year for my bday and visit my family out there in Redmond so was supposed to move last year but got a new job so I gotta wait for a year
With the pandemic, I’ve heard the homelessness crisis has gotten severely worse. What has been your experience with that? Especially as a woman, I’d want to make sure I feel safe walking in my neighborhood at night.
My brother lives downtown and he has 1) seen someone die on the bus (from drugs) 2) people poop and pee in the streets (Daily) 3) people shooting up on the streets every day 4) people passed out on the streets (very often). he talks about it often because it does affect his daily living. and he feels unsafe, and he is a man. men are more likely to get robbed, stabbed, and get into fights. the statistics show, so it's kind of... yikes for both sexes.
Depends where you move but really no where is really safe I don’t leave the house without a taser or pepper spray bc anything can happen even in the safest neighborhoods that’s just reality
Noplace in the City of Seattle is safe. I think you are perfectly fine being out at night on the East Side as long as you are north of I-90. Redmond, Bellevue, Kirkland, Woodinville, Bothell...
Skies of grey, all shades of grey but rarely tornado grey, in Seattle. It is usually raining, just got done raining or is about to rain. Wear your coat with a hoodie. And your damn socks

I would like to know if the homeless problem is really as bad as some people say it is, and is it all over the region or primarily in the city proper and especially in the downtown core.
Aw man it’s a shame I’m Canadian and it’s relatively difficult to get a job visa in the states. I visited Seattle recently and fell for the city. It’s like mine (Vancouver region) but the vibes just felt better. The streets even look better. And food tastes way more flavourful down in the states than here. 😢
Before someone mentions the gun laws and healthcare - totally get it. We are saved by high taxes that goes towards paying for healthcare and pension, EI. But up until 2020 they charged us monthly premiums for healthcare and it doesn’t cover dental or prescription drugs including birth control or insulin treatments. And our quality is not that great these days as most doctors are moving to the States.
Really u would say it's better than Van city? i just visited Vancouver recently in Sep it's freaking beautiful! Cascadia wins it for me i'm tryna get out of LA
@@jokerrhe Only the scenery around it it is more beautiful I would say. The structure of the city itself sucks. Including Richmond. Downtown Vancouver is cramped and shoved onto an island.
@@m3lodic.33 The scenery is def nice and Richmond wasn't bad. Stanley Park is amazing. Really? Interesting so the structure of Seattle is better you'd say? Downtown Van could use wider streets for sure getting denser but didn't feel cramped.
@@jokerrhe I’ve lived in this region probably my entire life. Richmond is the only one with good streets. But even then they’re terrible and never are repaired or if they are, they’re not that smooth. I’ve driven here too, hence my experience. There’s less lighting too, and it’s extremely felt if you live here and go into more parts of the place than just a few when you’re a visitor. Many visitors get a great impression when they visit. Yaletown is a nice part of DT and so is West End. But yeah, poor/less lighting, gross streets. The streets in seattle are way better at least in DT. But Vancouver at least has better scenery, not enough to make it a happy place to live. Wages are terrible here and everyone around is miserable and relies on alcohol, drugs etc. Probably a worldwide problem, but definitely something to consider. Stuff better than LA is probably we have 4 seasons, public healthcare and it’s not as smokey or set on fire as much. We get rain. And occasional snow now. And an extensive transit system expanded due to the Olympics.
B'cuz it was once clean, no crime centric politically where folks got along...leaders had common sense & kept order in the city. Apts on Cap Hill in the early 2000's were $5-700 month....now '$2700-5000 depending for rent. I grew up in the city...now crime's OUT of control...& transportation?.... The fascist nuts want their 15 min Smart Cities to take ur 🚗 car away , put U in a Chinese 309 ft cubicle for life. ❤ I loved my SEATTLE for most of my life in Wa. JAW droppingb gorgeous period... yet these manipulated leaders like Jay Inslee have an end game. 😮And that's to take away everybody's Freedoms... & why SO MANY oF US have left. They've made it so hard to get around the city. I used to drive from Shoreline to Beacon Hill to teach. I'd Whip Down I-5 between 25 -40 Mins. Today You Can Be sitting in downtown Seattle for 40-50 mins & barely move. All of this transportation junk is orchestrated as they have a goal in the end... And that's called Control yall. Seattle's not the only city - they're readyingto do it in every major city, but they're all up with it under Bill Fates global con..some are alert ..some are asleep.😅
If you lived here your whole life, it has turned into a dystopian hell scape compared to 15 years ago. If you’re from Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Baltimore, it probably seems fine.
not overtly racist imo. Every city has some level of segregation. Either all of the poor people live in one area or all of the Black people are pushed into an area. I've seen that in many states. My aunt moved to Seattle in the 60s and stayed there graduated college there and raised her family there. It has it's issues like every other city. You have to do your research. Is the mayor or governor racist? Are the police violent/aggressive only towards people of color? If so, what are the stats, how often do these types of incidents occur? ETC...You'll find racism in every single city in the United States.

💯
Black folks all up in Seattle - maybe you know of a different version - half the bars I go to are easily 25% filled with black folks. Seattle freeze? Yup, straight about that - but get a little liquor, people loosen up. Cost? Just really housing/rent, everything seems normal, excluding eggs. What's missing in this video? Commute - 3 miles can take you 30 minutes - so bad in some places, like Bellevue/Redmond, so bad, you don't even go out for groceries until after 8pm - if you did, it can take hours.
I am not a Seattle native but Seattle is my home ❤️
Washington is the country's best kept secret. Iykyk seattle is dope and so is your channel. I am a baltimore transplant and this place is heaven....except the deep winter lol
Thank you for this video beautiful lady. Blessings to you and your family.
I loved this video! Im going to Seattle this march, so excited, also I dont mind about the seattle freeze since i dont like people either ahaha lol just kidding
Yes but it is passive aggressive racism here
@@tianay9460 there's just passive aggressive people, period, here lol.
The thing about people looking at you crazy for using umbrellas is so true 😂😂😂
Ugh for real 😩 as someone who wears their hair pressed a lto, it looks like I'm finally going to have to cave and find a good raincoat then (as someone who is very hot bodied and hates long sleeves... This may be a tough adjustment... Maybe I'll let em stare 😅)
I’m English and it kind of sounds the same as England 😂 with the raining all the time and people being reserved
I’m considering moving to Seattle for a short period I just need a change of scenery. I’ve only been to Seattle once that’s going on a cruise to Alaska. I’m ready to move out of my home town of Texas.
Fuccin love Seatlle went there last year for my bday and visit my family out there in Redmond so was supposed to move last year but got a new job so I gotta wait for a year
I need more content on Seattle
We would definitely like an update on your life now ❤
I live in NYC now and I just made an update video a couple weeks ago
@@AmaraAnigbo How do you like NYC compared to Seattle?
Great tips hope you do great out there thanks for the video !
The constant gray overcast ceiling during 8 months of the year is difficult to deal with.
Yes!!! Love the video. More of this please!
With the pandemic, I’ve heard the homelessness crisis has gotten severely worse. What has been your experience with that? Especially as a woman, I’d want to make sure I feel safe walking in my neighborhood at night.
I live in Seattle and gotta say, I don’t really leave my apartment after 9 pm unless I’m with other people for safety.
Minneapolis here, we definitely have the same big city problems, homelessness, drugs, streets used for toilets. Why isn't capitalism saving us?
Skies of grey, all shades of grey but rarely tornado grey, in Seattle. It is usually raining, just got done raining or is about to rain. Wear your coat with a hoodie. And your damn socks
Would you consider Seattle a walkable city ? What’s transportation like ?
Hi! I’m so glad i found your channel. I was just in seattle during the beautiful summer and noticed the STEM thing as well so different from LA.
Aw thanks Jenny! I really appreciate you watching. Yes that was probably the biggest shock to me, the STEM scene here is very prevalent.
nice to hear a black perspective thanks i was looking into seattle vs texas
Seattle. Texas politics and what they believe in down there would be a NO for me. I would never want to live anywhere where Gov Abbott is the governor. That's just me.
SEATTLE is a nicer city compared to texas its ugly down in texas

I will come visit Seattle ! I watch your video from Canada 😁👍
Thank you so much, I am glad it is helpful :)
Left Seattle 3 years ago around d the ti.e this video was made.
Better plan on just visiting first..like a couple weeks should do it...then you'll plan to move or stay...some place else...the streets smell of urine, the crime is second only to NY. The traffic jams are a nightmare..it used to be a Beautiful place...now a dump...don't do it..
More on Seattle please!
Such great info, great channel
May I know what type of work you do.

How does Seattle compared with north Eastern States? People here are also cold.
Love the video! I want to get my wife one of those weird poop emoji pillows, where can I find that?
Nne biko, I'm planning to relocate soon.
How's the situation right now?
Bro Jst moved from nc month ago we’re the black girls at love the diversity bt I need me some southern Chocolate this might as well be a town in Asia 😂 bf this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been so idk 🔥 the freeze is real I got talked to everyday in the south bt I guess time will tell n I think yesterday was the last day of summer 🤦🏾♂️ it’s gray af outside
theres alot of black women but they usually at the malls so hit up those place just google the malls in the area
This comment is cracking me up. I came here from North Carolina too and you sound just like me when I first got here accept I was asking where all the chocolate men where at🤣.
I lived in Seattle for 6 years and I would not recommend it for black people. You will rarely see anyone that looks like you and good luck trying to get your hair and nails done. Also let’s not forget about the 9 months of rain, cold, and grey skies. I left severely depressed. I moved back to the DMV where I belong and I have never been happier.
I am in the DMV now and moving to Seattle in the next 2 months , we are definitely in the DMV
Thank you for this review I like in the dmv and I struggle in my environment
The weather is so changeable I love rain and dark skies
Have u move yet?If so how is it?
I wanna move to Seattle I'm an LA native, but I want to start a new chapter in my life... I just have to find a job out there, the pr9blrm is I'm not a stem major lol
You definitely do not need to be in STEM to enjoy Seattle! I would go for it :)
We have a saying here, umbrellas are for tourists
great video! You explained the Seattle Freeze/Northwest Freeze way better than the attempt I made in one of my videos about Eugene. I've lived all over the country and it definitely takes some time and work to develop strong friendships in this part of the country :)
Doesn't rain that much. Lots of drizzle. Gloomy in the winter. Summers ☀️ are great!!! Homeless people are a pain.
but they only attack in the night, during daylight you're safe (i guess)

Can't understand why you all don't know how to go on sites like LinkedIn and Indeed and just look for a damn job in Seattle..smh lol. You have to do your own research and not just wait for someone else to give you answers.

Idk man I’m born and raised just outside Seattle and have spent so much time here and live here now and been working here for a long time and I always use an umbrella and nobody looks at me weird 😂I do use a little one though, don’t be that guy walking down the street with a big ass stupid umbrella. 😂😂😂😂
The people are not friendly
I would like to know if the homeless problem is really as bad as some people say it is, and is it all over the region or primarily in the city proper and especially in the downtown core.
Bad
I'm seriously moving there in September, I'm a Hairstylist and a singer, but I don't know the best area to live.
you would love Capitol Hill!
Make sure you have $2000 a month for rent. Rent is HIGH in Seattle.
Im from Seattle and I am so tired of it
Hi, why are you tired of it? I visit family there every few years and I never want to leave lol. I'm from the Midwest.
I'm from Africa and I want to move to Seattle to work in the tech industry - the tiny houses are my only concern.
I'm trying to make a career change to Data Science and have been eyeing this city for a while.
If you lived here your whole life, it has turned into a dystopian hell scape compared to 15 years ago.
If you’re from Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Baltimore, it probably seems fine.
So I’m officially turned off by Seattle. The only thing I liked was the nature.
Character building winter is not wavy 😂😂 we have enough of that.
I see the freeze more so with black people. They are a different breed out here
“Seattle winters” 😭😭first time I’ve heard that as a MINNESOTA / NORTH DAKOTA native
seasonal affective disorder.
is seattle racist or segregated?
not overtly racist imo.
@@girlanonymous I'm not trying to be pushed into 1 area because my race that's how it is in ohio

Any list of things you must know before moving to Seattle that doesn't mention the fentanyl and homeless crisis is a dishonest list.
I worked the streets w/youth in Seattle. It's turned into a cesspool of drugs & homelessness ...but of course, I'm 72 yrs old now & lived there when it WA' was small town & provincial ...& was a beautiful city w/ practically no crime.
