Very true! I've seen so many episodes that I've lost count where these overweight people, or their families, say that "oh, I had to eat. I was feeling sick on the diet, because I'm not getting enough nutrition". I've seen lots of family members/enablers say, "I had to feed her. She'll get sick because she isn't eating enough".
People don't seem to get that even for an average weight person, as long as you have water, you can live for probably a month without food. I'm not saying it's healthy or ideal to fast for a month. My point is, you can easily go 3 days with no food. Unless you have blood sugar problems, nothing is going to happen to you if you miss a meal. You aren't going to die of starvation. people crack me up, because they act like you can die of starvation in a day, which is absolutely ridiculous.

A caretaker leaving does feel like abandonment if it's the person you have always had. While I've also had clients who are frustrated cause their caretakers constantly change feeling no connection and no want to improve. For immobile people or people whose mobility is severely affected those caretakers are the only human interaction they may get.

Yes, I was thinking the exact same thing. How can a parent see their child struggling from such a young age and then just let it go and let it go and let it go. The mother and the daughter both seem traumatized. The daughter seems to have an intellectual and psychological delay, the only person here who seems to be on the ball is the cousin.

@@RoseRose-hp4rq Absolutely. The girl I DO THINK is struggling with some emotional and/or intellectual issues. She’s more than profoundly immature. There’s a reason why it’s called “the cycle” of abuse. It’s not a person’s fault their partner is an abuser. But when one has kids, it HAS to be the non abusers immediate priority to get the kids out. If that Mom was stressed and traumatized how she didn’t know her KID WAS is stunning. I think a lot happened during the filming we don’t know about too. All of a sudden the Mom was MIA.

@@LeniDell It’s very strange when the parent doesn’t realize their child is just as effected, if not more, by the abusive parent/s, but I think they either truly don’t know, or they think that because they are the one in the relationship that no one else is affected. I’m not 100% sure on that. All I know is when I asked my mom why she stayed with my dad, and even partook in the abuse herself, the answer she gave was pretty much that she didn’t think anything was wrong ,or that I’d be affected as much as I was because her dad was the same way to her mom and siblings. I wouldn’t be surprised if the mom has a similar story with her own father because abuse can be generational, and therefore seen as normal or “just the way things are”.

The whole time I was watching this I was thinking that she must have some kind of cognitive disability or something. The way she thinks really seems like a child. Like "loosing" the diet plan multiple times - this seems like a kind of solution a child would think of. Just delaying the consequences with little consideration of how it will affect her later.
I think Dr. Now also realised this because he asked her where her mom was. I don’t think doctors usually ask their adult patients about the whereabouts of their parents.
And what "child" isn't going to eat a bunch of junk food when given the money and freedom to do so??
This whole situation is just sad.

On the way home from the doctor’s office I stopped by and got chicken and brussels sprouts to cook for my dinner that night. All the junk food and candy bars I had bought the day before went into the trash. I continued eating healthy and not eating out, going to a pool to water walk and water jog and ended up losing quite a bit of weight. Also, I am no longer diabetic. I’ve gained a little back and I’m working on losing that but I’m grateful to still be here. Losing weight is very hard and I know I could easily end up like those on the 600 pound life.

Its REALLY hard to prove another parent isnt capable/safe. And very expensive. If dad pushed for visitations, its likely judge ruled and moms hands were tied.
My ex hit the kids, constantly put them in danger allowing them unsupervised with dangerous items around, and 16yrs later still cannot care for himself or support himself and yet after 100k in legal ex still has visitation and has been ignoring court orders to pay his pittance of child support.
I did get it reduced to bare minimum (4 nights a month) because kids had 15 tardies in 18 days of dropping them off at school when he had thurs-mon 2x a month.
If there was no police reports of gas tank incident, judge would wave it off as he said she said

    • @skittles3310
      @skittles3310 ปีที่แล้ว +50

First of all, it's not a choice to consent to visitation for your parent partner. It's called a court order and it's mandatory for you to be compliant. If you don't then you'll most likely lose your parental rights. You'll look crazy, vindictive, and they will assume parental alienation. Then guess what? You won't be there at all for your daughter and she'll be with her abusive parent full time!
Secondly, you should err on the side of caution in regards to her story about the abuse. All she's done in this episode, other than eating, is LIE! She lied every time she opened her mouth! Lies and exaggerated excuses! If she couldn't lie she wouldn't have anything else to say. She even lied about her mom to Dr Now! She sat right there and told the camera crew that her mom kicked her out, and refused to pay for her caregiver anymore. Then literally the very next scene was her telling Dr Now that her mom moved away to work and her caregiver "abandoned" her! ABANDONED HER!!! Listen to her language. Language is so incredibly important! A person whom her mother employed to do the job of her caregiver was essentially let go by his employer, her mom. So mom is no longer going to pay for his services bc he's not going to be paid for them and she chooses to describe that situation as him abandoning her. Lots and lots of other ways in which a person could have described that and she uses "abandonment." Think about how any normal person would comprehend someone being abandoned. Did someone quit, lose their job, leave as in they just left, and then there's abandonment. She goes to the absolute most extreme version of events. Now don't get me wrong, I am sure that she believes a lot of what she says. To her she felt abandoned by her mother and then projected her feelings onto her caregiver. What you believe is your reality is real to you, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's not true.

I think she thought in the beginning that dr now would just do the surgery and that would be her magic cure and she wouldn’t have to make any real changes herself. The ‘y’all’ kills me. I really like him. I’m nowhere near where these people are but he would still kick my ass. I’m doing well counting calories and the weight is starting to come off. A 1200 cal per day limit does not work for me. It just sets me up to fail. I’m doing 1700 right now. I need to be able to have fresh or canned fruit (packed in water only). Low carb just doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried it several times in the past, and after a couple of weeks I get nutty sugar cravings. So right now it’s calories in, calories out.

@@surlywithfabshoes That's awesome! Hey, there's more than one way to lose weight and get healthy and it all takes hard work.
Carbs often get a bad rap. We ALL need a certain amount of carbohydrates. The healthy ones, of course. Research has proven that a diet of healthy carbs provides energy! Whole grains and fiber carbs lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke...and a plethora of disorders.
I don't know how you are but I am able to maintain my weight by eating 5 small healthy meals daily. This doesn't work for everyone but it has been a life-saver for me. I'm not diabetic but I have an EXTREMELY strong family history of diabetes. By eating about every 2-3 hours, this keeps my glucose levels low and consistent.
I had gastric bypass back in 2001 and lost a total of 193lbs. I have maintained my weight in the 145-155 lb range for over 20 years. (I'm 5'5.) Obviously the surgery helped me lose the weight. My permanent changes of what, how and when I eat have made me KEEP it off.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with being gradual and consistent. Like they say, slow and steady wins the race! All the best to you in 2024!

In some ways she reminds me of myself back when I was at my peak depression from ages 18-22. The way she talks it reminds me of a person who is severely depressed, like talk very quietly with no emotion to it, only talks when someone talks to them first etc. And yes I can attest that if you live with depression for many years it can make you miss out on many key life experiences that renders you immature and feeling more like a teen despite being a legal adult. But traumas from childhood and teen years has great effect too that can cause some permanent damage to a persons psyche just like it seems with Seana. You can get better, I eventually got better but not until I was about 25-26. I felt super ready to start changing for real. I just got to a point where I felt sick of myself just living my life on standby instead of actually living my life the way I wanted. But also years of working hard to get better is not easy, I've had so many panic attacks to even count, I've cried my eyes out thousands of times, felt immense self doubt and wanting to give up sometimes. To get better is a long process that is very painfull and draining but eventually I did see results. Slowly slowly. I'm still working on myself and I turn 30 next year. The process towards betterment I refer to as "facing my demons and dragging myself through hell", because that's the exact way it felt many times. It's way easier to just start using drugs to escape your problems, facing all your demons head on is the crazy mans way but also the only way to get better so in the end it depends... Can you live with yourself knowing you never even gave yourself a shot? If you just end up dying with a life story of blank pages that would be a true sad story IMO. Even if I die tomorrow atleast I died trying and my loved ones can attest to how hard I have been working as they have been my witness all this way.
If I can offer you any advice towards how to handle your niece it's basically this: be supportive but not an enabler, also at times tough love and honestly is needed. Try to just talk to her about what she wants with life and make her think of goals to set for herself. Even small goals is a great start.

That man gave up his right to see his child the moment he lifted a hand against his wife, yet alone when he "tried to put out a cigarette out in the gas tank." My little sister was like this. She was so traumatised by her (our) upbringing that she was basically a child. She never worked, lost custody of her son, suffered EUPD and psychosis, and drank herself to death last year. I honestly think she was beyond help. She was so infantile, vulnerable, and was used and abused her entire life. People say "you're an adult, take responsibility" but she basically wasn't an adult. Abuse literally causes brain damage (you can Google this; it's really interesting), so asking someone who's brain-damaged to take responsibility for their decisions is pretty pointless. They basically need to be parented, but there's nothing available within healthcare systems to look after them like then need. Theres so many issues like Trauma-Bonding, Learned Helplessness, etc, that others don't understand, and that may look like laziness, lack of willpower, immaturity, unwillingness to co-operate, making excuses, etc, but are actually trauma-induced brain damage and psychological disorders. RIP Helen ❤

That's excactly how it is often. You really made a good point. How can you ask someone to take responsibility, when they've got no clue what that means. Here in Holland we have houses for these kind of people, where they've got the help they need 24/7. Or they have their own apartment and people on their side to help them in anyway. But there is a waitinglist. Or a group of rich parents rent or buy a house for a couple of these kids in need and provide them with the proper care, meaning hiring the right people. My son and his wife work with these troubled young adults.

I always knew abuse can cause brain damage, especially physical abuse since all that's happening is getting hit in the head. You get bashed into walls, concussions, punched as hard as possible, etc. Blunt force trauma can hurt the brain and with some parents pushing kids down the stairs or out the window, injuries that can kill, of course, brain damage is possible.

I work in the entertainment industry like her mom, but I'm a Local instead of Touring at the moment.
That tour bus driving job does NOT pay as well as you probably think it does, and it IS NOT a Salaried position a lot of the time. She has to work, to have money. She has to drive all over the place for work. Her current lack of physical presence shouldn't be seen as "lack of support", it's just her job. If the woman was a truck driver, a long-haul truck driver in a different industry, would you still see her as "unsupportive"? Tour bus drivers aren't usually partying with the bands all the time and living it up. They're sleeping during the day at each venue, because they have to drive at night (usually the buses leave venues at 01:30-02:30 depending on Bus Curfew) to get to the next city or the next stopover along the way.
Cutting someone off can be their Rock Bottom that makes them Recover. Ask the people who love an addict of any kind, they'll tell you it's painful but necessary.

That’s actually a really good loss in that amount of time for someone under 300lb. I started at 220 and it’s taken me a year and a half to get 50lb off but to be fair I’m also not trying super hard. Just stick with it and stay consistent as much as possible. That’s what’s worked for me. I’d rather lose weight steadily for a long time than quickly and risk gaining it back.
