“Why isnt Luis Gil starting game 1??” Well, if you aren’t a Yankee fan you wouldn’t know that Gil walks the entire village almost every start and a rookie that has never seen the postseason being a game 1 starter is a recipe for disaster. Do yall not think sometimes??
I'm not saying I have complete confidence in Rodon, but I'm pushing back against the doomsday premise of this video. Here's Rodon's stats in September: 5 GS, 28 IP, 2-0, 2.20 ERA, 34 Ks, 10 BB, 1.10 WHIP. That includes 6 innings, 2 earned, 9 Ks against KC, who just got to him. A 5.1, 2 earned, and 5 K win against BOS. And a 6 inning, 1 earned 11 Ks against TEX. And after some great performances against KC, CHC, and SEA, Gil got rocked by OAK and PIT in his last two starts, and finished September with a 4.00 ERA. I'm not saying Gil isn't the better starter in the long run, but it's hard to pull that trigger right now.
I agree with a lot of what Jim says, the funny thing is that Rodon is still going to put you in a better spot than any Guardians starter not named Bibee, their bullpen is going to be gassed by the time this could get back to New York and the Yankees are going to be seeing those relievers a lot. You saw it happen to Detroit where the bullpen fell off towards the end of the series in the ALDS, that will happen to the Guardians in the ALCS assuming they make it that far.
Jim is right , but it depends on the roster. This gives a good opportunity to get Rodon’s start out the way in a non elimination or pivotal game situation to SEE if he has it or not. Worst case scenario, you let Stroman or poteet eat innings in game 1 if it’s out of reach. 5-6ip and and 2-3 runs should be enough for Rodon. Our BATS should hopefully match that by the 7th.
I don’t think so. Rodon has the mentality to bounce back into form. He just got into a hiccup because he was out of FB command by 60 pitches. Gil in G4 makes sense because he can’t find the plate as one of his weakness and he’s so gassed a bit now.
Only thing I can think why Rodon is pitching game 1 is that Boone and Blake sat him down and said chill the F out. Pace yourself. I think we'll see an more even-tempered pitcher. Overall Rodon is the lefty version of AJ Burnett.
Fyi Jim..Gil lead majors in walks and had almost 5 walks per 9 innings..in his one start against cleveland he walked 6 in 3 innings. Maybe a MLB manager knows what he is doing..plus Boone can come back with Cole is game 5 on 4 days rest with off days
I don't think it is that bad of a move. You just have to have a short hook. For example in the game against the royals after he gave up the homer to Perez and then the next guy gets on you pull him. Have a reliver finish the inning and then you have Stroman who wont start a game available to give you innings without decimating your bullpen. If they did something like that the series could have been a sweep.
I mean I get it trust me but I think this is a reach. Cleveland doesn't really hit just look at this series against the tigers, no way that series should of went 5. Now I do get the cause for concern because of who rodon is but lets not forget this guy also has the ability to shutdown an offense out of nowhere he's does it before multiple times for years and I can see hi doing it again. With this being said it is a risk bc he's a can of worms.
I had similar thoughts a few days ago when I first realized it was Rodon's turn in the rotation (it was never in doubt in my mind that Boone was going to do this), but as mercurial as Rodon's performances have been, remember that this is a 16 game winner in 2024. He's found ways to get it done. He can hold down better lineups than CLE, and he can also be dragged by much worse lineups. Gil is a 15 game winner. Also has found ways to get it done, but he hasn't pitched in weeks, which can be a good thing or a bad thing. He's inexperienced on this stage. And he struggled down the stretch. It's not a comfortable fact, but Rodon is the least uncomfortable option. I think no matter which way we go, game 1 is a craps shoot.
I am not sure I agree with you, Jim. I clasify your podcast as an overreaction. Sorry, Jim. Gil has control issues. Actually, there are pretty severe control issues. I love Gil and think he will be very good, but now is not the time to to start a series.
What a hose $hit take! You’re paying a guy 30 million $ a year to take the ball in big games. Rodon has performed well this year..in fact he’s probably the comeback player of the year. And you don’t think maybe he’s learned something from his first outing and won’t pace himself better this time? And even if this turns out not to be the right, this WILL NOT be fatal error as you put it. Enough with the exaggeration and gaslighting. Let’s try to stay in the real world….
Dude your take is shot...smh. It is evident you know nothing about the Yankees. You do start Rodon because 1 it is his turn in the rotation. 2. Indians also will start their #2. And 3. You have what u have. You gotta go with what u have and Gil has not pitched this entire Playoffs so why would u put the ball in the hands of a Young player at home? young players historically play better away. These takes are so ignorant and quite frankly a bit idiotic
As a guardians fan I love this we were much better all year against lefties.

Yes, I've thought about it & I still want Gil over Rodon
Rodon gonna make u eat your words just watch.
😂 the same guy said if the roof was open in Houston they would have won…please dude

America: We want Mets vs Indians
MLB: We want Ny vs LA
Media: We want LA vs Ny
Indians vs Mets WS. I'm not calling them Indians to piss anyone off. I'm just not used to calling them the Guardians yet.
And especially after seeing the best left hander in baseball for two games.
If Rodon wins game 1 guardians are done

Your right 👍
Cleveland rocks
I hope Rodon makes Jim look like a fool for saying this I hope he watched this 🤣
You could say the same thing about Flaherty going game 1 for the dodgers. These guys either have it on a given day or don’t.
As a Yankees fan I like rodon. He had more potential to go further. Then Schmidt. He’s shown he can have good games.
Rodon won’t pitch twice?
Luis Gil didn’t make it pass the 3rd inning when the guardians faced him in NY this season back in August

Great 👍🏾 Let’s Guardians 💂🏾💂♂️🗿🔥💨⚾️💯

@alwilsonwastheman agree 💯. I love Gil but now is not the time for him to start a series considering his control problems
Aaron Boone should’ve never been a yankee manager first of all. Whether they win or lose they need regime change and bring in Jeter and Donny Baseball
Never know with that guy. Tosses 0’s or gets shelled. He’s due to bounce. Jim, the call for Rodon comes down from the stiffs above, analytics.
Gil isn’t starting game 1 because they can’t have him start twice. Walks are a big problem and Yankees I guess don’t trust him for the game 1 start
All of a sudden rodon is a guaranteed loss? stretch

We’ll be good.
I do t believe it they will turn to cole if they need him. He’s the ace.
Wild thing Vaughn
Nobody told you to pay him his contract
Please switch with Schmidt.
What about the matchups
why is not cole then schmidt then rodon game 3 this is very big mistake. Rodon is waaaay to incosistent
Willie mays Hayes
Nestor

gil walks too many people. hot takes are so stupid now adays

Rodon is better than any Cleveland starter besides bibee. Yankees have the starting pitching advantage throughout the series
This is pure nonsense Jim. Skubal was worn out, that's why Cleveland got to him. Rodon will be fine.
You are wrong
Wow Your wrong

Cleveland is getting swept
Cleveland won’t win a game, Rondon has more wins then any Yankees!🧢
jim, u really this clueless?
Yanks in 4
or a stroke of brilliance

Thanks Jim. Now I’m nervous. 🫤
I hate the Yankees so hopefully they lose. The Guardians absolutely have to win game 1.
I think is going to be Yankees in 6
@@Frankieefootballmundial unfortunately I think you're right it might even be in 5 games.
