In its own quiet way, Mitsubishi often seems to spot innovation early. Porsche licensed copies of Mitsubishi's contra rotating balancer shaft to make their engines as smooth as butter and the Gasoline Direct Injection technology fitted to the Carisma was rapidly imitated by many manufacturers.
The third generation Mitsubishi Shogun, which arrived in May 2000, was also a car that helped set trends. Engines and suspension were bolted directly to the monocoque body rather than installed in a separate chassis, contrary to the way that many family-style 4x4s had developed. In fact, it had more in common with the car-like luxury 4x4 models such as BMW's X5. This 'hybrid' between old school rugged appeal and modern underpinnings proved very popular, and this fourth generation car builds on those solid foundations with a massive host of detail changes. Here's how to look for a used bargain amongst the later fourth generation models.
If there's one thing the Shogun has a lot of it's history and a brief precis is probably in order. The first generation car appeared at the 1981 Tokyo Show, followed by the second generation (1992-1999) and third generation models (1999-2007). The bigger but more energy efficient fourth generation version debuted in 2007 but we're particularly interested here in the post-2009 cars.
These models built on the fourth generation Shogun's improved safety, Euro IV emissions compliance and superior interior quality and added a 3.2-litre turbodiesel engine that boosted power from a modest 168bhp to a far more muscular 197bhp. A new five-speed automatic gearbox was also introduced. This model persisted until 2011 when Mitsubishi introduced a subtle facelift with a revised chrome grille with slotted bars and thick dividers on either sides. There were also colour-keyed bumpers, a black front skid plate, redesigned alloy wheels and black roof rails.

I have a 2016 lwb pajero for 3 years. I wanted a simple reliable basic off-roader with no bells and whistles.
I just replaced the basic radio to have the Bluetooth, added the missing cruise control and now all i need is there.
So happy to drive such a dinosaur 😊

A rock solid full size SUV that probably wont return as Nissan wont give Mitsubishi the freedom to build one. So if you need a full size SUV in the UK market and dont have used Prado money, get this. I used to drive one of these and despite not being a fan of large vehicles I could get along with this, the parameters are easier to judge in this than something like a Prado.

Don't rule that out yet. Nissan / Renault let Mitsubishi design from the ground up the new Triton/L200. That just says that they know Mitsubishi can build a better Truck/SUV so hopefully that translates to the next offerings. Mitsubishi does have a full size SUV and Mid size SUV in their planned timeline in the next couple years. 1 is definitely the next Pajero Sport, the other may just be the return of the Pajeros/Montero.🤞

@@itsaboutfam I hope they build a new full size Pajero Montero. I recently drove the new Pajero Sport (In Brazil) it's fantastic, Sophisticated, full of new technologies! Such an amazing car

@@junnogabit9333 The new triton is an whole new platform that the alliance gave Mitsubishi the lead on developing. The next gen Navara will be based on the new Triton/L200 platform. The current Navara is based on the older Nissan D40 chassis platform.

Pajero is very underrated!! Its monocoque build will give like a car road manner and at the same offer great off-road capability .

3.2 diesel with common rail injection system is much better that previous gen 3.2 did. Wonder why UK market doesn't have petrol version like all the rest Pajero markets: 3.8 with 250hp - very nice

I wish Mitsubishi come up with a new model of that legend some day.
The Prado and the New Defender are wonderful cars but way expensiver than the Pajero, hence why it had a good market allocation, not cheap but not luxurious expensive.
