13:38 yeah. Not a good relationship is putting it mildly. The day before Genshin Impact launched, two Hololive members, Akai Haato and Kiryuu Coco, came under fire from the Chinese internet for displaying on stream (independently) their TH-cam analytics pages which listed Taiwan as a country. Likely under pressure from investors, Hololive did serve the two a month streaming ban for this, but when it became clear that nothing less than firing Coco (Haato weirdly seemed to ultimately kind of get a pass, even though she did the same thing) would sate the mob, Hololive instead made the decision to pull out of the Chinese market entirely. For context, at the times Hololive actually had a Chinese branch with six members who were all fired as a result, and many of their Japanese members had a significant presence on Bilibili. Coco was however Hololive’s top superchat earner at the time and was immensely popular with English speaking audiences and this happened literally two weeks after Hololive first launched their English branch which was immediately met with massive success beyond their expectations. Coco endured a targeted harassment campaign in the wake of all this, and as a result of both the toll it put on her and the restrictions that had to be put into effect as a result made the decision to graduate from Hololive less than a year later. As a more immediate result of the incident, many Chinese game companies retracted permission from Hololive to stream their games (Hololive members only play games they have been expressly permitted to play on stream), including the makers of Muse Dash and Arknignts (even though Hololive had successfully collabed with Arknignts in the past). In the case of Hoyo, Holo EN’s Takanashi Kiara had requested and secured Genshin permissions and I believe even scheduled a stream at or shortly after the game launched, but these permissions were also rescinded and Hololive and Coco’s name were blacklisted within the game. So yeah, as a result, Hololive fans-at least those of us who have been around long enough-may be some of the least enthusiastic people about Hoyo within the greater anime subculture
Can't really blame Hoyo as they are still subservient to the CCP. I dunno if any mainland Chinese dev is brave enough to cut ties with the CCP (or if it's even possible without repercussions). Also, saying Cover fired the HoloCN girls is jumping the gun. Sure, some of them could have been fired for colluding with the hostile Chinese in the directed attacks to Haato and Coco, but not all of them were involved as far as we know. Officially, they were all allowed to leave (with their Hololive identities and assets) for their safety.
