The verse in Numbers 6: 23-24 is possibly the oldest known prayer in the Bible. Bonanza was an excellent example of being respectful of other cultures, religions, and races. It was ahead of its time. Other great episodes with a similar theme were: Look to the Stars and Enter Thomas Bowers.

I've been watching Bonanza on TH-cam 2 - 3 times a week for a few weeks now. I used to watch it on tv some 50 years or so ago, but not much in the time between. Every episode I've seen in these few weeks has been excellent: some deep, some ahead of their time or pushing the boundaries of it, some very moving, some exciting and never without at least some humor. So anytime now that I'm in the mood to watch Bonanza, I don't have to wonder if I will like the episode, I know I will.
I loved watching the Jewish Sabath ceremony and the blessing of his daughter. So wonderful that they show all the wonderfulness of this culture. The acceptance and beauty. And of course the courage of the old man when his daughter was threatened. And a joy seeing Adam outfox the bad guys with his message about the gun! 😄💖👍🐴
I'm not Jewish but l understand the religion. I once worked a woman from Guyana . She stopped working on Friday evening and said it was the Sabbath and they weren't allowed to proceed any further until Sunday evening. They are very serious about it.

The episode is terrific. But the main premise has nothing to do with reality. The father would certainly have wanted his daughter to marry a scholar. But above all - and nothing else matters by comparison - he would have wanted her to marry a Jewish man. (Of course, that could have been Lorne Greene or Michael Landon, the actors, both of whom were Jewish). Also entirely unrealistic is her anger at her father, even taking him to task for not responding to the robbery the way others would have. No observant Jew would break the Sabbath in such an instance. And if this were real life, she would have known that. Finally, her taking him to task for not being like others would have been the height of disrespect.
"Early One Morning", the song Adam sings on the Bonanza Party album and in an earlier episode, and also featured in episode 122 The Actress, originates in various forms from the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and was popular in the mid 19th century.
Adam with an ivory colored shirt and not wearing a hat is a rare sight. Rebecca is played by Aneta Corsaut who played Andy Taylor's girlfriend Helen Crump on "The Andy Griffith Show."

I like seeing Adam excited about a woman, especially one who is deserving of his attentions; she's demure, yet feisty when necessary. You go Helen Crump! Of course, nothing became of it, but at least she wasn't harmed in any way. And really though, when I think about everything this show offers, I don't blame Adam for leaving. He is my favorite Cartwright and now I see why, because he and I think alike. This show wasn't really progressing the family. Over six seasons the writers couldn't come up with a script that would allow these grown men to have a significant relationship outside of their immediate family....not one of them! Make me think the writers had something against men and women being together. It's just weird.
