    The minimum wage thing cracked me up - McDonalds look after their staff by paying them THE LEAST THEY'RE LEGALLY ALLOWED for their time. That's not looking after your staff's needs, that's meeting a legal minimum and shouldn't be celebrated as above and beyond

    • @TwoTeachers
      @TwoTeachers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, we get your point completely Rhiebelle. Genuine question, if you owned McDonald's what would you pay your staff and what impact do you think it would have?

    • @Rhiebelle
      @Rhiebelle 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TwoTeachers I think, honestly, this goes beyond McDonalds specifically.
      There are many organisations who go above and beyond by aiming to pay the living wage as a minimum for all of its staff and those companies deserve spotlighting & celebrating for that.
      The overarching issue lies with our governments in late-stage capitalism - the general cost of living has risen sharply over the last 40 years-or-so, but employee wages (especially entry-level employee wages) haven't risen to match, but we're all so distracted by class wars, immigration, and gender that anyone above the poverty line can turn a blind eye, and anyone below the poverty line are blamed/ignored/seen as a burden.
      I should add, I like this video & the breakdown you give about Maslow's Pyramid - I just wish more people had the foundations around the basic needs at the bottom of the pyramid fulfilled without needing 24 years' experience & a PhD to justify paying them more than £8 per hour.

      @@TwoTeachers the fact that you answer in this way instead of being able to recognise that minimum is literally unlivable in the United States at least. You're from the UK so maybe it's different there, but In the United States there are no Mcdonald's that take care of their employees needs. McDonald's doesn't "provide" anything for their employees. The employees provide their labor and mcdonald's pays them a miniscule percentage of the value they have generated. This is like saying slave owners "provided" food and shelter to the people the enslaved. They just give them what they have to keep them alive, and only long enough to extract the value from their labor.

      Fair point, it’s a good debate to have, a really important one too.

      getting paid minimum wage isnt a bad thing. The bad thing is when the minimum wage is set too low. Im from south africa where min wage is r20 which is little over 1 usd per hour. This is completely useless for most people so getting paid min wage here would definitely be viewed as a negative. Just for reference a mcdonalds big mac costs r50 so thats 3 hrs work to afford a meal and rent can be anywhere from r7000 to r20 000 depending on where you live. Driving to work and eating lunch would use up the whole day's wage.

    May I know "how flexible scheduling has fulfilled the safety needs of the Mc Donald employees?"

    • @TwoTeachers
      @TwoTeachers  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Under Maslow’s safety needs comes employment. By giving employees flexible employment McDonald’s are filling that need and possibly giving them time to fulfil their love and belonging needs too 👍
