Yes I have heard of certain people who got a job with the ASCPi certification and are now working in the USA. I have my ASCPi certification but I am yet to go through the CGFNS. It is important to get a visa screen with the CGFNS as most employers will also ask for it. Meanwhile you mentioned your sister is a “Medical Laboratory Technician” please note that this is different from a Technologist/scientist and might not be eligible for this certification. Thank you

You apply online. You can use indeed, Glassdoor, LinkedIn and the rest. You can also network, if you know someone in the USA that can link you up with a potential employer, one that is willing to sponsor you.

Hello Fatmah. You know MLS are divided into sections namely medical microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, etc..Are you saying I can only sit for one out them or I'll take exam in all the sections?

Hello Saruja, I am not sure I understand the question but you can sit the Ascp Medical technician examination to get your certification, since you’ve completed a diploma in MT.

If you are unsuccessful in passing the examination, you will be able to reapply once you receive your examination score report. You do not need to resubmit your documentation if you meet the current eligibility requirements. Once your application to retake the exam is processed, your new examination period will start after your original examination period has ended. What are the options for the suffix available? I believe you can leave this blank. It’s like a title that comes after your name. Are you married? If yes your maiden name is your surname before you got married, if you are single this does not apply to you, you can leave it blank

Your microbiology degree was from where? Nigeria or USA? Also remember that if you only have microbiology degree ( which is different from the Medical Laboratory science degree) you need to be able to prove training and work experience in a laboratory. Check the routes and see which is suitable for you

If not add all your work experience including the one before the degree and apply via route 2. But remember that your experience must show you worked in all areas of the laboratory except histology.
Pls about the ASCPi exam, when someone passes the exam can he or she decide to leave it after 3 or 4 later then writes the ielt before moving over to usa or does the exam duration expires
Hello. No the exam does not expire. But you will have to renew your certification every three years I think. To renew, all you need is to complete some courses online which will serve as your continuing professional development and also pay a fee (not sure of the amount now)

If you sit the generalist certification, the exam will cover all areas of the laboratory.

1. I know it is accepted in U.A.E too
2. It is renewable after 3 years.

You most likely still need your visa screening. The Ascp is just a license/certificate that allows you practice the profession
