I didnt like it that much, I understand why he did it but as you said "difficult to read" sazed´s been my fav character throughout book 1 and 2 and te last part of book 3.
Hero of Ages is actually my favorite Mistborn book. I don't know, I'm a sucker for really good endings, and just the payoff here was AMAZING. And I was unnaturally happy about the earring being a hemalurgic spike (first prediction that was right off the bat in a Sanderson book that I've made). Vin and Elend had a beautiful end, as did Sazed. And Spook... oh my gosh, was Spook's whole storyline unexpected and brilliant. I also agree with you about Elend's change being more beneficial. He did what was necessary instead of what he wanted, and I felt that really fit his character. And yeah, I'm always astounded at how WELL Sanderson writes mental illness. Really, the only issue I have with the story is that Vin and TenSoon never got to reunite, that was downright disappointing. Loved the video!
Elysia Goodman I agree so much! But I was also slightly disappointed that we didn’t get any “resolution” for Marsh... he went through so much and got no proper ending in this trilogy. Sure, he’s still around in era 2, but he really got the short end of the stick imo
i have to agree the ending is so rewarding I loved this book .Really spooks arc was one of the most unexpected and brilliant choices for the series .The only thing i didnt like as youve mentioned was no reuniting between tensoon and vin and my own gripe being vin reaching the state of a sentient being I felt we lost abit of connection to her in those scenes however i do see how it was necessary to tie the plot together
I really wish someone would mention how before Elend died he burned atium with duralium (spelling? Lol) and SAW THE FUTURE!! He said he sees it now. I’m almost certain that he saw how the world was going to be restored and that BROKE MY HEART! Also I love when Spook got to be a mistborn at the end because of Kelsier. Spooks struggle to want to be important and looking up to Kelsier but giving it up for the greater good was amazing, but to know that Kelsier was looking over him the entire time? And thought he deserved that power? I finished the book last night and I’m never going to be over it
I think Spook being bestowed power by divinity cheapened his arc. It had come to a nice close with him giving up power for the greater good and then sacrificing his life to be a hero. Erasing the consequences for his heroic actions and gifting him power felt wrong.
This is the first time that the ending of a book has forced me to find some outlet for my emotions. I don't have any friends irl that read, so I can't talk to anyone about it and after I finished I just sat there flailing about for a minute - disoriented. Reading the Stormlight Archive a year ago showed me that Brandon Sanderson would be my new favorite author, and now there can be no question. I can't wait to see how powerful the ending of the Stormlight archive will be.
Yes, Vin is great, and Sazed's story is emotional, and the ending is heartbreaking, I agree with all this But I also really appreciate this book for Spook. His journey was so unexpected, refreshing and fascinating to follow, and to me and it elevated this book to new heights (and even without that, it would possibly be my favourite Mistborn book)
That’s great! I’ll admit that I don’t love his plotline in this third book. I don’t dislike it, and I definitely found the concept of Kelsier’s true rebellion being revealed to be interesting, but I always found myself wanting to go back to Vin and the others 😆
It felt like one of the only plot lines that wasn't hopeless lol, I enjoyed it, pewter and tin spook with the blindfold just looked really cool in my head.
Yeah it was really beautiful, how he was offered power by Ruin, but in refusing it to be a weaker yet better man, he became mistborn in Sazed's new world
I was legit crying. I had a book hangover for days if not weeks... Damn I'm still not over it. I remember walking into my sister's room (who had already read it) and raving about it to her. Then I would just turn on some Avatar: the Last Airbender and the Legend of Korra soundtracks (those fit the mood the most honestly) full volume, headphones in. And sit in front of the open window looking up at the night sky, breathing in the cold air.
Hey, I did the same thing!! I scoured the internet for some fanfics but couldn't find any. There are not even any good fan-art for this series. That's just sad.
Is it just me or the Kandra storyline line was fascinating in particular Tensoons friendship with Vin. And what the first generation do for Sazed in the end
I thought the Kandra storyline was interesting, I enjoyed Tensoons perspective, his trial as well. Throughout the book I thought the 2nd Generation had overthrown the 1st, since Tensoon never got to see or hear from the firsts. It kind of reminded me of a religious figure speaking for God, they were always just up there unseen and always agreed with the 2nd. I'm not sure if that was meant to be foreshadowing for when there is a coup near the end or not.
I finished the book for the first time an hour ago and kept staring at the walls because I felt so broken and yet so happy with only bittersweet feelings to accompany me. And then I realised that I had nobody to talk to about this book, so here I am. I have never related more to a character than I have to Sazed through the books from being this sweet guy who knew and believed in things to being lost and depressed, not knowing the purpose of anything. It just hit right at home for me. SPOILER- I guessed who the Hero of Ages was going to be long back. I had an inkling from Book 2 for reasons I cannot explain. And then as the passages in the beginning of the chapters enfolded I grew more sure because it sounded so much like Sazed; but what nailed it for me was the passage before Chapter 34 about Feruchemy being a balance between the powers.
SPOILERS I thought it was so obvious that The Hero of Ages was Sazed. Those little paragraphs before each chapter sounded so much like Sazed to me, and I thought Vin being the Hero would be too predictable, so I suspected all along that Sazed was the Hero, and I think it was soooo damn perfect. I do wish we got more of a resolution for Marsh, cause I felt like he got the short end of the stick, and I wanted more TenSoon at the end. But I loved it so much and even though Elend wasn’t a fave of mine, I cried like a BABY when he died. That moment when he was like “It’s your turn now, Vin, I did what I could” or something like that, I completely broke down. And now when you reminded me that Vin and Elend didn’t get to experience this world that they were fighting for, instead they had to sacrifice themselves for it, made me tear up again!! I love this series so damn much, even though it broke me lol
Yeah I realized that the passages before each chapter were definitely written by Sazed but I did not realize that it was written by Sazed who was eventually the Hero of Ages
Because I listened to the Audiobook simultaneously I knew it was Sazed writing the passages BUT I thought he was just writing about Vin or Elend, that they where the records he was keeping in his metal minds ahhh I was totally fooled, but I'm ok with it:) When Elend died I had to put the book down for a little while to stare at the ceiling and ask why... (same with Tindwyl)
I thought it was Elend after Well of Ascension, Sazed never even crossed my mind as a possibility so I was MIND BLOWN when I read it but looking back Sazed being the hero makes so much sense
Just finished 🤯🤯 I think my favorite part of the booked is when everyone almost* accepted they were doomed. Elend falling into the ash mound ready to just lay there and not get up because there was no hope was an awesome visual!
*Spoiler alert* I thought Elend was the Hero of Ages, I kinda knew it wasn´t going to be Vin because that was very predictable. The way Sanderson closed this trilogy BLEW my mind. When Elend died I remember thinking, "oh man, Vin is going to die too" I couldn't imagine an ending with one of them dead and the other one alive. I'm getting goosebumps just remembering all of it.
Spoiler alert I know, me too - once Marsh showed up I had to take a break because I knew Elend wasn't going to make it and I thought Vin was maybe going to stay a God? I totally seriously cried through the ending
Spoils When elend died i screamed "nooooo!" out loud. I was in denial, my brain kept telling me that because vin was a god now, she'd find a way to save them. Then when even sazed couldn't find a way to bring them back i was so sad. It feels like i lost personal friends.
@@BenjaminEarlMusic spoiler man i just finished the book a minute ago and I am crying HaRD. I didn't think I cared about Elend the whole trilogy and then he died and it just destroyed my soul and I started ugly sobbing and remembering the way he developed through the books. wtf is this. I'm so depressed lol. Like it was so beautiful but Im so fucking sad. I also always thought kelsier was still alive and was going to come back the whole time. It's so lovely he was there watching over them. But god vin and elend.... ;_; its too much. ohhhh god. the pain.
Yeah I also didn’t think vin would be the hero of ages. I thought the same too predicable. I thought it would turn out the be the lord ruler. But the ending surprised me big time with sazed. I couldn’t believe they killed both elend and vin. I mean wow
Fully agree. I loved his increased role in this book. I wish Breeze and Allrianne had more scenes honestly, I would have loved for Breeze to shed his persona in one final going out speech only to remain alive at the end.
I agree, HoA was a standout in the trilogy for its epic plot. It was so driving the whole time. But I will say, I still think The Final Empire was my favorite book because of all the character detail and Vin's development. I also think being smaller in scope just made for some many more little fun moments. PS. MY BOY SPOOK THOUGH.
I just finished it before I watched this video and I balled my f*n eyes out at the end. Hearing you get so worked up about it was actually emotional support for me. The whole video I was like YES, she UNDERSTANDS ME!
I just finished hero of ages and cried during the last 5 chapters. I needed to see your book talk and now I'm crying again. Help. This book was soo emotional and beautifully done. I am so happy that thanks to you I found one of my new favorite series of all time, Hero of ages may being my absolute favorite book I've read until now.
Uuuugh finally here! I was a mess after this book. I couldn't finish it on audio book. I had to read it so I could pause at moments and just think "Damn...this is beautiful"
I completely missed the gender-neutral detail as it relates to the hero of ages’ actual identity. That’s so clever! I love Vin and Elend so much it hurts... the brief moments when they get to be together and happy as husband and wife are the best part of the series for me ❤️ I also love the suggestion through what Sazed says in the end that Vin and Elend didn’t actually lose each other in the afterlife....you’re making me want to do a re-read, and I only finished the trilogy for the first time a couple months ago ... by the way, you and the other world hoppers were the reason I read the series, so 😊 thank you. I love your passion for a beautiful story!
I didn't actually figure out Sazed 🙈, but there were a few times where they'd read the description and I thought "Sazed fits those things" but then I'd talk myself out of it haha So like my brain got it but I wasn't convinced. 😂
@@SwipeSide19 the thing about the epigraphs was: I knew they were Sazed like it SOUNDED like him. But my Dyslexic ass read the first line as "I am unfortunately NOT the hero of ages" So I was still convinced it was Vin and Sazed was writing it
Yeah! It always sounded like sazed but it didn’t occur to me that he would be the hero. It sounded more like he was writing a book about the events later on talking about the hero. It was a masterwork in writing loved it. I can’t believe I found out about such a great boon on TH-cam haha
@@richieb74 OMG ME TOO!!! Reading thru HoA I totally forgot about the first epigraph literally saying "I am, unfortunately, the Hero of Ages" so up until the last chapters I was convinced it was just Sazed retelling the events like months/years later.
The nostalgia ❤️, this is my first adult high fantasy series. Its very influential in changing my preference in books. Spoilers... I'm still sad vin and tensoon didn't have a reunion scene. I also feel bad for Marsh, he is in a impossible situation of losing control and acting against everything he stood up for was heartbreaking me. The scene where he killed the messenger sent by sazed was so brutal also. Favorite fight was with Vin vs Marsh and the inquisitors. That was so epic to me.
Unprofessional Critic I think marsh was the lowlight of this series, I still love it but hated almost every scene with him, and I usually enjoy villains (Zane, Straff). But he was just irritating
All the feels for this book. I really got nervous throughout this book, bc it kept getting worse and worse. Also I'll always carry a torch for Marsh. His struggle broke me. But I love all the characters especially Sazed (and Tindwyl). 💜
Omg why did you stop! Please continue! I loved every thing you said, I also got emotional as you were speaking haha.. please talk about everything else, spook, kandra, terris, everything
for me Spook’s story was so difficult to read not because it was bad but it felt so realistic 😭 not only did we see him face his insecurity about his powers, abilities, or his place among the crew but (SURPRISINGLY???) his insecurities about women as well (altho in a brief and subtle way)
Came across this video as I finish the hero of ages. And dang, thank you. It feels like i have a friend to discuss the book with. I agree with everything that you said. That ending was sad but beautiful.
I absolutely did not guess The Hero of Ages, or the earring, but I did guess what the first generation and the kandra trust was. Loved this book, and the Survivor of the Flames arc. Wasn’t completely happy with the ending, but ya know sometimes that’s the way it’s meant to be. I was very frustrated with Sazed’s arc and thought it was a bit of a slog, but that is mostly due to the fact that I can’t really understand depression as well as others. His final moments of glory and realization were absolutely EPIC. Looking back over the three books, and specifically the pre-chapter entries, you realize the ground work that Sanderson laid for us to pick up on.
I got this trilogy because you recommended it so much and truly THANK YOU. I did not expect it to be such an emotional rollercoaster. The thing that hit me the most about hero of the ages was that part of the epilogue, where sazed explains how he took information from all of the religions to bring back flowers, animals, blue sky etc... it was so beautiful and it tied even the smallest of plots which were mentioned in book 1 when sazed explained these religions to kell and vin. i wasn't sure of all that religion plot in book 1, in book 2 sanderson made me change my mind because so many interesting plot points emerged due to it but in book 3 GOD DAMN IT MADE ME CRY LIKE A BABY. it was so beautiful. i knew both vin and elend will die, i just had a gut feeling but vin dying was so hard, like you said, she never got to live in a world which she helped save... :( SOBBING while writing this comment oh god
The Sazed depression moments were tough to read, but amazing at the same time. I guessed that Sazed was the Hero of Ages after the second book, but it felt like an obvious twist to the story. But the tragic deaths of Elend and Vin were so heart breaking and emotional. But I guess their souls will love on in the afterlife, because there is an afterlife in the cosmere, so that’s great. Such a fantastic trilogy! ❤
SPOILERS -------------> This series was one of my first steps outside YA so like I wasn't expecting to like it so much. The first book was tough to start for me, and I was surprised how fast (and to me) unsatisfyingly it had ended. Then the second book was tough to stay fully intrigued in the middle bits when it wasn't about Vin. But the 3rd book???????? HOLY CRAP!!! I love this book so freaking much literally every question I wanted to be answered was answered in such a satisfying way. Every character I loved was given amazing impactful moments (except for maybe breeze and ham). I loved Spook the moment he was introduced in Final Empire, I even shipped him so hard with Vin (an unpopular opinion I know). And this book was amazing for him! I wish there was more early chapters of him before he got his spike but even still his story was incredible. My heart never beat faster than that final confrontation with the citizen! Sazed's reveal at the end blew my fucking mind. Some of my only complaints are how some characters ended their story. Like TenSoon literally committed suicide "off-screen" and he deserved better than that! He honestly did nothing in the 3rd book other than worldbuild the Kandra! He didn't even get to see Vin again!! It was so sad :((( Honestly he and Spook would have made an interesting duo now that I think about it. And Marsh had that amazing moment of defiance but having him still being used as a puppet was depressing :/// what even happened to him and the Kandra who didn't pull out their Blessings, and the Koloss! Also Human was lowkey my favorite character for like a lil bit and I wish he got a cool moment. Damn sorry I just really vented my frustrations. But I guess all in all I loved it and it was amazing but I wish the epilouge was a lil bit longer!!
No need to say sorry 😊 You should definitely pick up the second era books, based off of some of the things you mentioned here. It’ll continue to wrap up things you might not have realized you would get!
Just finished the book. I thought the series was very good (yet not great)... Until I read the last 25 pages of A Hero of Ages. Oh. My. God. What an ending. It was epic, powerful, heartbreaking, beautiful and unexpected. I had to close the book multiple times while reading that last bit to just soak in what was going on
"God gives his hardest battles, to his strongest soldiers." this was once said to me in one of the most difficult times of my life, it really meant something to me at the time and while reading this book the words came back to me. Somehow, it defines the end of the Era 1 story for me. They endured so much, caused no one else could.
It’s funny how one person can catch some things and not others. Loved being surprised at the earring because it made sense (I was dense on this one), and then figured out Sazed was the HoA in book two. Sanderson is great, I think.
I just finished the Mistborn trilogy and really enjoyed each book. I can't believe how well the characters developed along the way. I'm appreciative that there are free videos out like this one, since I don't know anyone else who has read it (yet). Probably going to have to mull this series over for a few days before starting Warbreaker.. moving on too quickly would feel almost disrespectful.. lol.
The ending totally surprised me and I loved it. I feel like one of the main themes in this series is things not going as you expected which totally fits the ending. I probably should have stopped assuming I knew what was going to happen but I never did. lol. I definitely need to do a Mistborn Era 1 reread soon. :)
I just finished Hero of Ages last month, so I don't have all my thoughts together on it, but... I was never a fan of Elend, so it was hard for me to get into the emotional arc with him and Vin, so it's interesting to hear your take on it. I wish I'd gotten into it like you did. However! I loved Sazed's and Spook's arcs through the trilogy. I think Spook somehow became one of my favorite all time characters in this last book. I thought I'd get through the ending of the book without crying, but then the flowers happened, and I just sobbed. Kelsier and Mare (even though we never met her) mean the world to me, and getting that little tiny bit of closure was so good. Typing about it now makes me want to cry again, hah.
Just finished. Man was this trilogy amazing. The Sazed depression was handled brilliantly. I’ve had to deal with depression with loved ones in my life and Sanderson handled this so accurately and deftly that I wonder if he’s had exposure to it as well. B
I agree, it’s so well done. I always feel kind of bad when people complain about it being boring (the depression element). I know it’s not the most exciting thing to read, but it’s so much more meaningful imo.
Just finished last night, and i was blown away at how well the trilogy wrapped up. Everything you said was on point. Sazed has always been my fav. character, so to see his story come full circle was amazing. I also really loved Spook's arc in this book, i didn't expect him to have so much page time but enjoyed all the moments. Everything that came up about the kandra, i could read a whole book on them, so fascinating. Sanderson is so brilliant, this trilogy was my first exposure to him, and i just can't wait to read more of his work.
I only listen to the non-spoiler part because I am reading this book right now, but I can’t wait for the reveals, there are so many questions that have not been answered. I will watch the full video at the end of the month when I finish it! :)
This is my least favourite book in the trilogy, but I still enjoyed it. It was so sad though. 3:23 I lost it at that too, I had to close the book and get up. I might even have shouted. Vin and Elend were so badass I loved reading about them fighting together and their entrance at the party was legendary. Upon reflection after a couple of months since I finished the trilogy, I didn't like it as much as I initially thought. I think the first book is the best (also it has Kelsier haha) I struggled through the last 2 and I just couldn't get into some parts of the story, like the koloss or Vin at the end guiding Elend for example. I didn't see anything coming, and I accidentaly spoiled myself for Sazed because I looked up a picture of him and it was written under. Now I know that looking up characters on Google images before finishing a series is NOT good idea. I still liked it though, it's truly a tragic story, and the ending broke my heart into a million pieces. I wasn't expecting so much loss and sadness. The character development was fantastic. Wow sorry that was a lengthy comment and a little all over the place, I still hope someone read it :') Edit : How could I forget about TenSoon and the Kandra. Broke me.
Dang i spoiled myself about Vin and Elend that same way. Nothing was written under it but it was kinda obvious from the art. But I think it helped me emotionally to be expecting it. Having the Sazed thing spoiled though is sad!
I just finished. Took me months to read all three. They were very tough to stick with sometimes but the resolution at the end with Sazed was the perfect conclusion to all of it. I almost cried, I thought it was so beautiful.
(SPOILERS....) yes I guessed it was sazed pretty early in the book because sazed is the only person to end sentence like "...., I think. " as soon as I saw that I guessed it was sazed. It was early in the book as well, just few chapters, I think. ;)
I figured out the Hero of Ages towards the end because history tends to repeat itself. I was hoping I was wrong but OMG it made so much sense. This was my favorite out of the three. I cried so hard haha.
I saw Elend dying some passages along the story, and I thought to myself what if vin also dies trying to save the world that would be eppic. The part that broke me though was when spook described the flowers being the same in Mare's picture... I cried with gasps thinking how everyone that has ever carried it didn't live to see the world they worked so hard for coming to life, it's been almost 24 hours since I finished it and my heart is still crying :(( Brandon sanderson broke me :((
3 Questions: -Did they ever mention why "16" was such a special number? -If the atium storage is what Kelsier had planned on using to take the Lord Rulers place & control everyone, then why did he destroy it all before he died? -Spook use to talk funny, then one day he talked normal, what happened? Thank you so much for doing this review! I was waiting, lol!! :-)
ok so 16 was a special number because they had to figure out that there are 16 metals in total and Spook practiced his not slang speech during one of the time skips (can't remember which one) and for the second question, I don't really know =))
Man, i think no one Is mentioning It but to me Marsh was the true MVP. He managed to resist Ruin even when he was the being with more hemalurgic spikes.
I felt like I am a masochist for reading this book. It's a great book, but I felt depressed for a week afterwards. None of my friends read fantasy, so when I told them about why I look like shit, they just looked at me weird😅 ...and I totally agree with what you said about Vin...poor Vin😭😭😭😭😭😭
You are so passionate for Mistborn and Sanderson. I love your style and channel, I'll never leave. Tor needs you on the payroll. Please stay with us anyway. SPOILERS: The epigraphs were my favorite part of Hero of Ages. When the author finally explains about Hemalurgy and the other two magic systems, plus the underlying plots of Ruin, Preservation and the history of the power and the whole planet. My favorite standout epic scene is when Vin Duralumin steelpushes herself clean above the mists and briefly hangs there., crushing Kredik Shaw in the process. Also, Spook breaking free of Ruin, then burning himself to flood the canals with water. Elend Duralumin burning Atium to see the future, then taunting Marsh to save all of Scadrial. Thanks for your review. You made my day. 😀
I completely agree with the sazed thing many writers in books take the other road that ohh they grieved for a month they're better now! Sanderson and Scott lynch though they make you feel that grief along with their characters (and I love that coz its real)
Hero of Ages is my favorite book of the entire cosmere so far because the ending is just so completely perfect, imo. I absolutely adore the ending. It may even be my favorite ending of any series or trilogy.
I know I'm late to the party but wow!! You said it so true. Saz was hurting and Sanderson really let that sink in, so much so that we can really appreciate it. The biggest bomb to me was the first contract. Like everything finally coming together. The Lord Ruler. The atium stores we spent soo long searching for and why we knew it was important. The mist and it's subtlety. Just like Ruin changing tiny details in books, the mist found a way to use Ruin to send it's own message. Something has been left unsaid and it's eating at me. Kelsier, our hero... Was he another one of Ruins puppets? Or was he perhaps a puppet of both Ruin and Preservation? Did Ruin simply use him to destroy the Lord Ruler the way he did Vinn? Did Preservation also want to kill the Lord Ruler? People always said Kelsier was insane... was that a little bit of Ruin in him? If so, did he have to fight ruin to not kill the nobleman we named emperor?
I LOVED book 1 and really liked book 2. Book 3 I was not really into it until the very end. With that being said, I was really impressed by how Sanderson tied everything together and the amount of foreshadow that was being laid from the very beginning of the series. I think if I ever re-read this series I will enjoy book 3 way more.
Throughout the series I loved the character development first vin and elend then Spook but I especially loved elend I expected him to have a better ending after all that he and vin had gone through I felt sad that tensoon and vin didn't meet and I thought that sazed might somehow ressurect both of them and they would rule the new world
I figured out about Vin's earing in whichever chapter Sazed passage reveals why Vin is able to pierce copperclouds. After that it wasn't too hard to put 2 and 2 together.... I absolutely love this trilogy and can't wait to read the behind the scenes novella secret history
I realized the earring thing around the same point, then later when we see the message it basically confirmed it to me and I was squealing with excitement
I just finished The Hero of Ages and am now emotionally compromised. All of the reveals were so satisfying and the ending was so bittersweet, but so well set up. Ugh, so much about this book blew me away. It's all still raw for me right now. Next up for me is the Witcher series though, which I'm excited about. I can place Mistborn back on the shelf for now, it deserves a rest.
I NEVER guessed any of Sanderson’s plot twists in all 3 books. Maybe some of them I’d figure it out literally right before the reveal. But man, he’s so good at plot twists.
Aah! Finally!! I've been wanting to write some of these things for a long time! So excited about this video! (this will contain spoilers) which I wish someone had told me before I accidently read a spoiler, while I was reading about book 1! I read that (SPOILER) Vin and Elend were going to die!! My favorite phrase, I think, from this book is "I am, unfortunatly, the Hero of Ages" - this made me cry! Elend and Vin were great! I really enjoyed how they didn't have to tell the other what they were going to do because of how much they trusted one another! Their end was so lovely, when they are lying dead on the grass, their bodies restored by Sazed and Spook reads that they're very happy together now, resting... It was a good ending for them! Spook... Spook was SO GOOD in Hero of Ages! Brave, selfless, grown-up! I really enjoyed his transformation!!! I enjoyed how he literally destroyed his body and then got all fixed in the end! He started from literally the lowest you could go and ended the book as the most important human (on earth) since I feel like he was going to pick up the torch and make the world a better place! This book was good! There's so much to talk about, all the side characters were amazing! It was all great!
I finally finished this trilogy last night and I can’t cope! Spoilers..... I worked out that the epigraphs were by Sazed but was well after any of the early ones were useful (him saying he was the Hero). It was a complete shock at the end when he felt those powers. Incredible! I had picked up the weird phrase of having the world on their ‘arms’ specifically, but I just thought it was a weird turn of phrase rather than being that key. I also worked out that Vin’s earring was a spike when TenSoon showed that their Blessings were haemalurgic spikes, there was some commentary on how they didn’t have to be large and that they allowed inquisitors to pierce copperclouds, so I thought that linked to Vin. It was killing me at the end though when she didn’t understand why the mists wouldn’t help her! I’d also thought from the beginning of the series that the earring must be important for her to always have it. With it being bronze I thought she might swallow and burn it at a key moment to find the ‘enemy’. I hadn’t clicked that her sister was the Seeker ‘donor’ though. I just love so much about this series! I think the third is my favourite book. I like the second, but I found it long and more dry with the politics, whereas the theology and magic of the third was brilliant.
some people in these comments really making me feel stupid with all the predictions they made, meanwhile i was completely led along, but i feel that makes it better when you get a satisfying ending that you dont predict.
It was painfully obvious to me that Sazed was hero of ages. The way they described the hero in the prophecies definitely described sazed. In the 2nd book, when vin was on her way to the Well, i thought sazed was gonna stop her and take the power himself. I was convinced 😅 i did not see Vins earring as something obvious tho. That one got me.
Second time reading through. I definitely found the Vin earring painfully obvious, particularly from the chapter preambles on hemalurgy. The first time through I think I recognized it when Spook pulled out spikes from him and Quellion. For Sazed, even the second time through I dont think I saw that many obvious clues NOT in the preambles.
Maybe I’m just not a strong reader, but I didn’t guess Sazed was the Hero of Ages or that Vins earring was a hemalurgic spike. But that’s what made the reveal so amazing to me 😂 you made a great point about feeling like we were in the blind most of the time.. so maybe it wasn’t that obvious. Nice review!
Who else came here with a stain of dried tears in the eyes after finishing the trilogy... Looking for companionship and wanting to talk about what just happened.. So beautiful!
*spoilers* Just coming here now after sobbing my eyes out. This story is so good! But that ending, it's so sad yet so fulfilling. Such a bittersweet ending. I cried so much when Elend's head got cut off. I guess it was foolish of me to assume that Vin and Elend would survive, so I was very devastated. 😭😭 I'm still happy with Sazed's storyline. I didn't see it coming that he was the hero. And for Spook, I love his character development! Especially when he chose to remove the spike and lose the power. Despite his insecurities of feeling weak, he did it without hesitating. As what others said, I'm just sad that Tensoon didn't get to meet with Vin, and Marsh didn't have a proper resolution. Anyways, thanks for making your review! :) I'll need to recollect myself now before jumping into another story.
Spoilers: I loved the story and most characters had a really good arc. Clubs comes to mind with him finding faith before he died. However, it also made me think about characters who didn't have much of a story. I liked Dockson in the first book, but he was a bit of a dud in the second book and I wish he had more of an arc or more to do before he died. Allrianne is another dud. Why was she in the story at all? It seemed weird. Plot or character impacts were minimal.
*spoilers* Ok I'm gonna say....I felt super frustrated with this book. But, it may just be that I'm not compatible with Sanderson's way of finishing off a story. He appears to have this habit of getting to the end of a book and then doing an info dump/tick-the-box of what the reader still needs to know, but it isn't given to you over a few chapters in some epic style ending, it's more rushed and I actually get really frustrated by it. I finished and felt like I'd missed out on finishing the book. Do you know what I mean? In terms of the actual story, love vin, don't love Elend but loved him in the first book, wish tensoon had actually made it back to vin, wish more time had been spent on spook in book 2 so I felt some connection to him in this book, loved the way the world is revealed and all there is to learn regarding hemalurgy and feruchemisty etc, and Sazed I got, I just wanted to hug him.
I thought the portrayal of depression in Sazed was excellently done. It was hard to read, but I'm glad Sanderson wrote it like that.
I didnt like it that much, I understand why he did it but as you said "difficult to read"
sazed´s been my fav character throughout book 1 and 2 and te last part of book 3.
I loved Sazed in book 1 and 2, but he felt so whiny in the first half of book 3
@@leomac00Completely agree!
OMG YES! Vin and TenSoon not meeting broke me, i'm still pissed!!
I know I'm quite randomly asking but do anyone know a good website to stream new tv shows online?

Oh man, I know! So many years until then 😆 At least we’ll get the end of the first arc after book five :)
Yes, Vin is great, and Sazed's story is emotional, and the ending is heartbreaking, I agree with all this
But I also really appreciate this book for Spook.
Absolutely, Spook's plotline was soo interesting
It felt like one of the only plot lines that wasn't hopeless lol, I enjoyed it, pewter and tin spook with the blindfold just looked really cool in my head.
Yeah it was really beautiful, how he was offered power by Ruin, but in refusing it to be a weaker yet better man, he became mistborn in Sazed's new world
I couldn't agree more! Spook was my favourite!
Every time someone says the word 'Epic' I immediatly think of this ending and how well it was all foreshadowed. I love this trilogy with all my heart.
SPOILER-
I guessed who the Hero of Ages was going to be long back. I had an inkling from Book 2 for reasons I cannot explain. And then as the passages in the beginning of the chapters enfolded I grew more sure because it sounded so much like Sazed; but what nailed it for me was the passage before Chapter 34 about Feruchemy being a balance between the powers.
SPOILERS
I thought it was so obvious that The Hero of Ages was Sazed.
Hahaha, your last sentence is the same for me to. Apparently we like it when books make us sad 😆 Why do I love my entertainment to depress me?!?
I always thought it was Elend and there are still passages that fit Elend imo
*Spoiler alert*
I thought Elend was the Hero of Ages, I kinda knew it wasn´t going to be Vin because that was very predictable. The way Sanderson closed this trilogy BLEW my mind. When Elend died I remember thinking, "oh man, Vin is going to die too" I couldn't imagine an ending with one of them dead and the other one alive. I'm getting goosebumps just remembering all of it.
Spoiler alert
I know, me too - once Marsh showed up I had to take a break because I knew Elend wasn't going to make it and I thought Vin was maybe going to stay a God? I totally seriously cried through the ending
Spoils
When elend died i screamed "nooooo!" out loud. I was in denial, my brain kept telling me that because vin was a god now, she'd find a way to save them. Then when even sazed couldn't find a way to bring them back i was so sad. It feels like i lost personal friends.

spoiler
man i just finished the book a minute ago and I am crying HaRD.
I mean wow
I loved Spooks story the best!
Edit: I also loved kandra parts. I find them so interesting
Reagan Orton Spook is the unsung hero of the story in my opinion
WAX and Wayne story have more about kandra
Fully agree. I loved his increased role in this book. I wish Breeze and Allrianne had more scenes honestly, I would have loved for Breeze to shed his persona in one final going out speech only to remain alive at the end.
I agree, HoA was a standout in the trilogy for its epic plot. It was so driving the whole time. But I will say, I still think The Final Empire was my favorite book because of all the character detail and Vin's development. I also think being smaller in scope just made for some many more little fun moments.
PS. MY BOY SPOOK THOUGH.
This is why I also love tragic stories. I was getting emotional all over again with you 😊. This book still tears me apart
Elends character growth is everything. I loved it. I loved the ending. Definitely one of my new all time favorites.
Uuuugh finally here!
I was a mess after this book.
I couldn't finish it on audio book. I had to read it so I could pause at moments and just think
"Damn...this is beautiful"
Man I felt so emotional at Spook's backstory , he was too pure
I didn't actually figure out Sazed 🙈, but there were a few times where they'd read the description and I thought "Sazed fits those things" but then I'd talk myself out of it haha
So like my brain got it but I wasn't convinced. 😂
CallMeAfterCoffee for a sec I thought it was Spook lol. But then like 60% of the way through one of the epigraphs didn't fit
I thought if it wasn’t Vin it was going to be Spook or Elend lol
@@SwipeSide19 the thing about the epigraphs was: I knew they were Sazed like it SOUNDED like him.
But my Dyslexic ass read the first line as "I am unfortunately NOT the hero of ages"
So I was still convinced it was Vin and Sazed was writing it
Captain Goradel? That scene was surprisingly one of the saddest for me. I wanted to throw the book away when Marsh killed Goradel.
So glad Sazed pulled through in the end… he was my favourite character!!
I figured out it was Sazed at chapter 3 when “I think” was used. After that the clues became obvious for me.
TenSoon, Sazed and Spook, my favorite characters of THOA
The Sazed depression moments were tough to read, but amazing at the same time. I guessed that Sazed was the Hero of Ages after the second book, but it felt like an obvious twist to the story. But the tragic deaths of Elend and Vin were so heart breaking and emotional. But I guess their souls will love on in the afterlife, because there is an afterlife in the cosmere, so that’s great. Such a fantastic trilogy! ❤
Also the GRAPHIC AUDIO for this trilogy is freakin amazing it adds so much to the story
To me soemthing was so beautiful about Seized saying 'they're happy where they are' in regards to Vin and Elend
It’s funny how one person can catch some things and not others. Loved being surprised at the earring because it made sense (I was dense on this one), and then figured out Sazed was the HoA in book two. Sanderson is great, I think.
"Love, life, growth. The life of a person is more than the chaos of its passing. Emotion, Ruin. This is your defeat."
I am tearing up again just by watching your review! Damn this book.
Just finished the series, and it was amazing. I love how it’s not your typical “good guys always win” kind of story
This book broke me at the end and it was in the best way possible.
I loved the ending and I was also both torn and blown away by how good it is!! Great review 👍🏻
I've finished the book today and now your video is making me cry all over agaaainnnnaaaaaaah
Ah, I’m sorry!!! 😭
@@ebnovels it was a good cry tho
Wow sorry that was a lengthy comment and a little all over the place, I still hope someone read it :')
Edit : How could I forget about TenSoon and the Kandra. Broke me.
Dang i spoiled myself about Vin and Elend that same way. Nothing was written under it but it was kinda obvious from the art. But I think it helped me emotionally to be expecting it. Having the Sazed thing spoiled though is sad!
@@hibak8196 I saw fan art with the flowers too but I didn't realize what it meant before I read it in the book thankfully.
I just finished. Took me months to read all three. They were very tough to stick with sometimes but the resolution at the end with Sazed was the perfect conclusion to all of it. I almost cried, I thought it was so beautiful.
(SPOILERS....)
yes I guessed it was sazed pretty early in the book because sazed is the only person to end sentence like "...., I think.
You definitely have a particular way of telling stories that you favor and it shows in your reviews and ratings. Very entertaining review.
I saw Elend dying some passages along the story, and I thought to myself what if vin also dies trying to save the world that would be eppic.
The part that broke me though was when spook described the flowers being the same in Mare's picture... I cried with gasps thinking how everyone that has ever carried it didn't live to see the world they worked so hard for coming to life, it's been almost 24 hours since I finished it and my heart is still crying :(( Brandon sanderson broke me :((
i just finished this. it is now my favorite book of all time tied with IT. my heart seriously hurts so much
I feel you. That’s how I felt!
I just finished reading it and I am emotional with the ending for what happens to you know which two characters but what an ending and Idk I loved it.
Just finished the book 20 minutes ago, didn’t know a book could make me cry, so good
3 Questions:
-Did they ever mention why "16" was such a special number?
-If the atium storage is what Kelsier had planned on using to take the Lord Rulers place & control everyone, then why did he destroy it all before he died?
-Spook use to talk funny, then one day he talked normal, what happened?
Thank you so much for doing this review! I was waiting, lol!! :-)
ok so 16 was a special number because they had to figure out that there are 16 metals in total and Spook practiced his not slang speech during one of the time skips (can't remember which one) and for the second question, I don't really know =))
He wanted to spite the lord ruler and bring him out of Kredik Shaw to face him.
Man, i think no one Is mentioning It but to me Marsh was the true MVP. He managed to resist Ruin even when he was the being with more hemalurgic spikes.
I felt like I am a masochist for reading this book. It's a great book, but I felt depressed for a week afterwards.
None of my friends read fantasy, so when I told them about why I look like shit, they just looked at me weird😅
...and I totally agree with what you said about Vin...poor Vin😭😭😭😭😭😭
I know I’m late to the party but I’m completely shook by the ending and now I’m trying to find a reason to start trusting books again.
Throughout the series I loved the character development first vin and elend then Spook but I especially loved elend I expected him to have a better ending after all that he and vin had gone through
I felt sad that tensoon and vin didn't meet and I thought that sazed might somehow ressurect both of them and they would rule the new world
So do we all agree that Spook had the best character development?
I just finished HoA. I don't think I have ever cried so hard like I did during the last 20 pages.
Aah!
Haha, don’t feel dumb! Sometimes I get stuff perfectly and other times I’m way off 😊
I just finished this book. Wow. Just wow.
Great video! I loved the earnest discussion with specific passages taken from the book.
I just finished this book minutes and I didn’t see any of twists coming! I am so heartbroken now but the ending is still beautifully satisfying.
Nice review!
what a phenomenal book, absolutely loved Mistborn.
Who else came here with a stain of dried tears in the eyes after finishing the trilogy... Looking for companionship and wanting to talk about what just happened.. So beautiful!
The first minute made it even more exciting to start reading Mistborn. But no, I must restrain the urge to read them in the middle of the semester!
How does this not have more views!!! I am going crazy

Just coming here now after sobbing my eyes out. This story is so good! But that ending, it's so sad yet so fulfilling. Such a bittersweet ending. I cried so much when Elend's head got cut off. I guess it was foolish of me to assume that Vin and Elend would survive, so I was very devastated. 😭😭
I'm still happy with Sazed's storyline.
I'll need to recollect myself now before jumping into another story.
I feel this video in my bones and in my soul.
Their first dance was beautiful
Just finished it. I´m in tears.
I finished it just now and iam in tears and it is definitely a must read for everybody
Spook’s character arc was amazing!
Spoilers:
I loved the story and most characters had a really good arc.
Loved it. Dont know how anyone couldn't. Emotionally wreaked wowowowowowowow

Ok I'm gonna say....I felt super frustrated with this book.
The most exciting part for me, probably because of the reveals.
I guessed it because the prophecy said he’ll carry the knowledge on his arms I was like okayyyyy that was pretty blatant
