    Hello Mark,
    Thank you for this video.
    I made an Oxydator with H2O2 (5 %) and coat hanger wire catalyst.
    It works and fine oxygen bubbles are created into the bottle.
    The problem is that H2O2 is released slowly through the two small holes in cap but there is no O2 bubbles in my aquarium.
    So, I thought that released H2O2 must react with some organic to produce O2 bubbles.
    I put then the bottle directly on the soil and it worked. Now I can see bubbles of O2 ☺️

    Here in Germany I buy the H2O2 in the pharmacy. It is much much cheaper than the Söchting solution. Maybe it's a useful information für you guys.

      That was always my doubt! I use the original 6% solution, but sometimes is not available. Never considered to use ordinary peroxyde because i have affraid that may contain other stuff as stabilizers or specially traces of copper from fabrication process. So... is the most common 10% peroxyde from pharmacy safe to use?? :)

    fantastic vid Mark, I simply wouldn't have a shrimp tank without one of these. I've seen baby shrimp play on top and around mine so many times.. it is an invaluable addition and I would absolutely recommend any shrimp keeper get one. I now use 9% peroxide which I pick-up from a salon service stockist.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you notice a big difference in the bubble amount with 9% solution ?

    • @Quint1975
      @Quint1975 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Marks Shrimp Tanks it is greater in quantity and frewuency but does taper once it nears saturation Mark. I like to use it when in a bigger tank as it oxygenates the water faster. I do have the 'big oxydator' and found it overkill. It would be useful for 100+ litre tanks but anything below, a regular oxydators with 9% solution does the job quickly and for me the more oxygen the better for those baby shrimp. I'm not sure if 12% is perhaps too high but possibly not in a big tank.

    • @dimitrijekrstic7567
      @dimitrijekrstic7567 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? There is no reason to use this. Hydrogen peroxide reacts with water and creates oxygen and water. Why would you add oxygen in such a slow way? An air stone is much better. Hydrogen peroxide is also a desinfectant, it kills microorganisms. Again, why? There is no need for it. It doesn't do this selectively, it kills both beneficial bacteria and otherwise. It seems to me you just decided this is somehow beneficial, and that's about it.

      I grow microworms for my betta and feed the excess production to my shrimp. I assume they eat it just fine because the shrimp immediately go nuts when the worms hit the water...though I find it pretty much impossible to observe them actually eating them, as the cloud of tiny worms disperses too much to keep track of. I do know for sure that my shrimp love eating bloodworms.

    How does this compare to the electrolytic oxydators like the "Chihiros doctor II" in terms of oxidation (so the end result)?
    this ofcourse is cheaper and also works in case of a power outage, but it has to be filled every now and then (do you happen to know how often?), which is something i'd rather avoid (unless ofcourse in the case there does happen to be a power outage).

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

      Giwan the problem Ive always had with the other types is they make oxygen from the water thats already there so to me they are not adding anything at all ,if anything I think they would accelerate oxygen depletion.

I've been using the mini in my 17g tank for couple weeks now at 72f, and noticed using 1 catalyst, it runs out rather quickly, about 1 to 1.5 weeks. Any reason for this? Also, I heard that when using this, some people say to NOT agitate the surface, since it will be gassing out the o2. Is that true?

    Ok, I have to admit, I didn't get any of that... i"m not very good at chemistry nor at shrimp keeping. But I would love to understand the correlation of the elements put inside a tank. • @MarksShrimpTanks

    • @LastRaven215

      Go to the grocery store and buy a bottle of peroxide. Read the label. Read the percentage of hydrogen peroxide on the label. Divide the percentage on the bottle by the concentration of hydrogen peroxide you want to achieve. So if you have 30% hydrogen peroxide from the bottle and you want 6% divide 30 by 6 which gives you 5. That means if you have 5mL of hydrogen peroxide, you need to add 20mL of tank water to your 5mL of hydrogen peroxide.

      Hey Mark! So I put it back in finally, and looks like everything is ok with the tank! Last question, I promise haha. I don't see that many tiny bubbles come out of it, but occasionally I just see a big bubble pop upwards. Am I setting it up wrong by any chance? I followed exactly how you set it up, so I am not sure.

    Hey Mark! Great videos! Have you ever heard of the Twinstar Shrimp 50? Would using that and a SÖCHTING Oxydator pretty much do the same thing? Or are they different?

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cant get my head round where a twinstar gets all the oxygen ..I know its through electrolysis but to me that means its stripping the water of oxygen not adding it ..I am not sure if they are a gimmick or what.

      @iMemphis-118 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I got the twinstar as a gift, so I figured I'll use it, and recently saw this video about the Oxydator for more oxygen and ordered a Mini. I figured more oxygen can't hurt...but wanted to see if these 2 devices would conflict. Thanks!

    • @tekeraq
      @tekeraq ปีที่แล้ว

      It isn't taking oxygen from the water it breaks the water h2o into h and o. It is that device should the oxydator release o3 ozone that kills bad stuff

    Hi Mark,
    Thanks for this video! I used hydrogen peroxide to kill cyano as well but I maybe used too much of it (10 ml 🫢) so my question is do you know if there is a maximal dosis of H2O2 per liter?
    My tank is cycling now but I would like to use H2O2 safely when shrimps will be added.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tank volume in liters divided by the H202% gives you the safe dose in ml. I actually based this dosage on probably a year of testing at different strengths until I had a dose where the shrimp didn't react. so if you test it and you see any reaction like the shrimp are acting erratic do like a small water change.
