With all due respect Parker this tank is more of a lesson in how to overspend by a country mile on every part of this hobby for mediocre results. The scape itself with the corals filled in is your typical wall of coral with no elegance about it what so ever. There are many many examples on TH-cam of reef tanks with amazing scapes and results at a fraction of the cost you spent on this!

Absolutely stunning. Christian at Signature Frags is an absolute legend, got my first fairly low priced SPS frags from him the other week, and polyps out and fully fluffy tenuis frag after a night with Royal Mail is insane!

Amazing tank Sam. Loved watching this tank turn into what it is today. I used milbemax (Milbemycin) 5 odd years ago to treat ostracods which were feeding on my LPS and causing tissue loss and recession in my LPS. It worked fairly effectively but as not much info was out there I didn’t pick the right time frame for repeat treatments and needed to do again a month or so later. I followed the treatment method for red bugs I found online in America. The other in Praziquantel definitely slowed down and eventually killed my inverts (mostly snails at the time) but I feel it did remain in the system for awhile despite running carbon, water changes etc. I did also have a dino outbreak after but may or may not have been related. The treatment also wipe out all the beneficial copepods,amphipods etc and took awhile to repopulate (as well as dadding ti system). Keep us posted on the developments
Thank you very much for the feedback, I’ll be sure to repopulate all pods and inverts that succumb to the treatment which will hopefully combat any chance of Dino following. Amazing to hear someone else who has done the treatment!
Sam, wow, I mean honestly this is what I would love to achieve with my tank. Truly aspirational material. I hope I get to see it one day! I also wouldn’t worry too much about adding sand too fast - the biggest risk would be smothering the live layer in the top cm or two. If you’re adding it to existing sand, give it a good mix into the existing sand once it’s settled on the bed to disperse the life in the existing sand .

Hi Sam, thx for the update. I have added sand to my system using a pvc pipe with a funnel on top for slowly adding it just where I want it. I did use the same sand that was in the system (Caribsea live sand). I haven't noticed any problems after adding it.

Mate I’ve got a bigger home for your school of Chromis! I like your idea of the bicolour or blackbar Chromis. I’ll be heading for a mix of planktivores in my tank also. The salty hobby hasn’t many “small” fishes available to us… well, compared to the fresh side of the refractometer. A sense of scale is very important in aquaria displays, and continuing with the smaller planktivores will help us maintain the aesthetic balance
hahaha yes, you've got a huuuuuuge home for them :D I agree completely, nothing makes your big fish look more special and important than a nice school of smaller fish. You're spot on about the freshwater side of the hobby putting a lot more emphasis on them than us salty boys do, we can all learn something from the other side that is for sure
Are you still running the sulphur reactor? Might need to tune it back to bounce those nitrates back. I ran a sulphur reactor on a big fish only, thanks for the education. But they are so effective…..
Na this tank has never had a sulphur reactor in it (my last tank needed it badly though!). I think I had just been a bit over zealous with the GFO and not letting the refugium work enough on both elements

4 years… wow, it’s hard to believe it’s been that long! I like the soft coral idea, great location for some nice leathers and getting some mixed grain sand with a bit of larger particle and finer sand over a 1-2 month period should keep things stable 😎👍 well done Sam

About the salinity guardian, was it about calibration or those it reads to lower? I'm asking because when I installed mine, it read 32.5 PPT, and my refractometer was reading 34.5 . How much do you trust reeffactory salinity guardian?
One of the best bits of kit I’ve bought is tropic marins precision hydrometer. Most accurate way to measure salinity, with no moving parts or calibration

Do you expect that your salinity issues just came from a super gradual change that caused the probe’s to drift? Also I thought you had mastertronic auto testing your nitrate etc on this system? Did you stop using auto testers? Is that why your nitrate bottomed out?
I believe so yes, I had a problem with my RODI Automator that had let it run dry and let my salinity creep up. I need to manually check more often and ensure that I calibrate at least every six months 😂 Mastertronic nitrate reagent had run out :/
You’ll have to do a live stream of getting the chromis out, anything like the few fish I’ve had to get out it could be good entertainment 🤭, tank is still looking awesome though mate and from someone with a wrasse dominant tank I look forward to seeing your selections in the future

Thank you so much! I scrape it with my continuum blade scraper, it holds up to this quite well, although if you were to look closely, you would find some fine scratches on it - but it really doesn't matter as you can't see them

The white bugs in my experience only spread between Indonesian acros and to my knowledge, only come in on Indonesian imports, perhaps endemic to indo species.

I'll do a full video once it is completed, but in short: 92mg of active ingredient (which varies by the type of wormer you get) per 400 gallons. Dose 1 on day 1 Dose 2 on day 7 Dose 3 on day 21

I’m adding some coral essentials sodium nitrate. Seems to be working well, hopefully just be a short term thing though

I think it was user error to be honest, but I am investigating further :)
Interestingly WWC claim that in their really well grown out tanks they get better colours on their acros with nitrates between 15-20.

Yeah not due if I’ve been lucky with them or if it was something else, but I’ve only listened to a couple over ten years

Yeah I went the regular tunze pumps when some came up second hand. They were well priced, smaller and allowed me to angle the flow a lot better
@@ParkersReef Can't go wrong with Tunze pumps. I run the 6105 Eco and they are crazy efficient, 11 watts for 12,000 lp/h can't be beat.

Mandarins are eating frozen, but it is a solid point and something I will have to keep an eye on

What are the Dimensions of the Tank & how many gallons?
It's 210x90x75cm and about 1400lt. For imperial measurements, that is around 82x35x30 inches and about 370 gallons

What’s the dose of milbemax out of curiosity?
I'll do a full video once it is completed, but in short:
92mg of active ingredient (which varies by the type of wormer you get) per 400 gallons.
Dose 1 on day 1
Dose 2 on day 7
Dose 3 on day 21
Amazing tank Sam. Loved watching this tank turn into what it is today. I used milbemax (Milbemycin) 5 odd years ago to treat ostracods which were feeding on my LPS and causing tissue loss and recession in my LPS. It worked fairly effectively but as not much info was out there I didn’t pick the right time frame for repeat treatments and needed to do again a month or so later. I followed the treatment method for red bugs I found online in America. The other in Praziquantel definitely slowed down and eventually killed my inverts (mostly snails at the time) but I feel it did remain in the system for awhile despite running carbon, water changes etc. I did also have a dino outbreak after but may or may not have been related. The treatment also wipe out all the beneficial copepods,amphipods etc and took awhile to repopulate (as well as dadding ti system). Keep us posted on the developments
