He was Indalamar, and had quite a few items named after him (Ramaladni's Blade of Culling being one). He designed some of the best systems in game, but also had his hands in some of the worst. Love the guy despite some of the mistakes he's made, truly a legend for the WoW community.

We have years of history of loot based RPG games with rich end game content (Path of Exile - Diablo 2 - Division - Boarderlands) - Bioware had 6 years to develop this game, where is the RnD? 8:00 That is the opposite, if you can get the same loot everywhere, then people will stick to the best area, it doesn't incentivize them to go elsewhere, it is the exact same issue with the difficulty, people are sticking to the easier one because the loot isn't different on the more difficult areas. Where as if different types of items drop in different areas, that directly incentivizes players to go to different locations, just as having higher quality drops in harder difficulties, would incentivize players to actually run the harder difficulties.
Targeted farming may also relate to different materials, so areas in the world to collect specific items. For instance in WoW you might spend time in one area specifically for one ore or herb for example, which you may need to create certain items or contribute to specific goals. Or like in destiny in which there were planet or area specific materials for upgrading certain weapons.
Lmao this is basic stuff yet, destiny still fails all the time at loot, division fails at loot. Honestly for the open world mmo light games maybe only border lands has done the loot right.
Why does everyone love borderlands? The arcade-style, the odd speed differentials and ai pathing, the lack of cohesion in loot....i could barely get through the first one and never finished 2. I prefer the Destiny franchise and that's more boring than sloth dandruff.
There is kinda system where certain game modes guarantee you a certain type of loot. Playing a Legendary Contract on Grandmaster will guarantee a Masterwork Component. And a Stronghold boss on Grandmaster will always drop you a Masterwork Gear. Now what they need to do is make it so The Monitior on Grandmaster difficulty will always drop a weapon or something, and that on Grandmaster 2 and 3, there will be a guarantee chance for the boss to drop a Legendary item, that would make it worth for someone. Specially does that are only need Legendary items.
Im telling you. To many people in game development dont like video games. Places like Bioware hire people because of their diversity quotient and not because they know what they are doing. Its all over the industry. They are making amateur mistakes because too many of them are non gamers who have never played the games that taught those basic lessons in what "not to do". Bioware is famous for its dive into the identity politics employment swamp.....they tried to blame Andromeda on their "B" team--- but they are all the "C" team now. Minus a few talented people who keep their head down and do their best to keep the ship afloat.....it cant be done when there are so many weak links. Hate to be cliche with a dark souls example - but they did go with the different-areas-for-certain-loot approach to farming and there's really no way to break their implementation of this mechanic
I think he's right about area specific higher level loot. I played several MMOxs growing up and when you finally reach a higher level it's nice have areas dedicated to only being able to run as a high level. Then being rewarded with high level gear.

Did you know during the mission where you go find haluk and faye during the party you can fuck around with your javelin while in the cutscene? Your character is perpetually falling during the cutscene if you press buttons. My friend took it to the next step and fell through the map during the cutscene and had to quit the game.

I have like every gun and every masterwork item needed for my jav but inscriptions sucked until now, and there is a specific farming thing like components from legendary contracts, would be nice to have consistent legendary farming to some degree
I received an Element Rage Assault Rifle masterwork weapon that is sort of only useful with the Storm build, but even then I notice next to no difference really so I’m left scratching my head noticing any difference. Also there’s a great number of negative buffs, an example being elemental attunements where it’ll boost your elemental damage by 50% but will take away 35% off their base weapon damage - I’m guessing it taxes you for using your weapons when all I’m trying to is effectively use both. In addition there’s this bug where even if I only have one loadout total, I still can’t salvage a handful of items as they’re locked away from doing so. I want the game to work, but the loading screens are ludicrous. 3-4 loading screens to leave a mission, update loadout, and find a new mission. It’d be easier if you could pick up new missions from the Arcanists, Freelancers & Sentinels in the actual expedition page under a slot saying add new contract - it’s way too clunky doing one at a time especially if they’re setting you up to go and talk to this person to get the new contract, it’s more like a harrowing ordeal with your time than actual gameplay. The Path to Glory is ridiculous if they want you to actually complete it because all I can think about is 5-6 loading screens per mission start to finish, 25 contracts, 25 strongholds, 25 something else and 100 world missions - that’s maybe 5-600 loading screens - 9 to 12 hours in waiting time is a little absurd don’t you think, it outweighs the amount of time it took me to finish the game itself so that’s a little sobering.
im pretty sure he meant the borderlands system for targeted farming, you want unique items dropping from certain enemies, doesn't have to be the best items in the game with the highest damage, just unique.

My first Masterwork component after the loot patch, the "special" trait was that while hovering the damage is increased by 0% (yes, zero) hashtag glare. [Just playing until division 2 comes out, well there probably isn't more for me to do in Anthem...]
I think his comment about targeted farming areas is more about loot tables with specific drops in specific strongholds. If you want the XXX sniper rifle, it drops in Temple of the scar as an example. Better loot tables would go a long way to improve player experience.
Sam buddy, playing through legendary on Halo3 and getting the sword on your back was such a sense of pride, and didn't ruin the experience at all. Things like that just aren't in games anymore and it's so frustrating since that's what so many of us want.
Yea the division does it well. Going to specific incursions to get specific items so that when you find it and complete your build THEN you go and play the other areas with your completed set Sam. It's actually a perfectly viable and preferred tactic farming because if the game itself is great (which anthem isn't) but if it is you will want to go to other areas no matter what.

Things like strength for mages _used_ to be stuff for those weird obscure and bizarre builds before they 'streamlined' the games where any other stat that isn't directly related to your class quite literally has no effect on you. In D2 you could make a musclewizard and not feel bad about it.

It's not really a story, unless you just want to tear down a publisher, IMO. They made a statement about how they failed to do their research about 8chan in advance, and they've been raked over the coals by social media SJWs. I think THQNordic has suffered enough for a terrible mistake. I think the story is played out already. It's old news already.

On what Ralph said - I 100% agree. We have years of history of loot based RPG games with rich end game content (Path of Exile - Diablo 2 - Division - Boarderlands) - Bioware had 6 years to develop this game, where is the RnD? I would have liked to have seen them do some consulting, to learn about what makes these other titles successful, how they've fostered devout fanbases, and what keeps players invested in the world
i got Anthem for free and its still not worth installing even at that price.

8:00 That is the opposite, if you can get the same loot everywhere, then people will stick to the best area, it doesn't incentivize them to go elsewhere, it is the exact same issue with the difficulty, people are sticking to the easier one because the loot isn't different on the more difficult areas.
Where as if different types of items drop in different areas, that directly incentivizes players to go to different locations, just as having higher quality drops in harder difficulties, would incentivize players to actually run the harder difficulties.

Targeted farming may also relate to different materials, so areas in the world to collect specific items. For instance in WoW you might spend time in one area specifically for one ore or herb for example, which you may need to create certain items or contribute to specific goals. Or like in destiny in which there were planet or area specific materials for upgrading certain weapons.
Lmao this is basic stuff yet, destiny still fails all the time at loot, division fails at loot. Honestly for the open world mmo light games maybe only border lands has done the loot right.
Why does everyone love borderlands? The arcade-style, the odd speed differentials and ai pathing, the lack of cohesion in loot....i could barely get through the first one and never finished 2. I prefer the Destiny franchise and that's more boring than sloth dandruff.
There is kinda system where certain game modes guarantee you a certain type of loot. Playing a Legendary Contract on Grandmaster will guarantee a Masterwork Component. And a Stronghold boss on Grandmaster will always drop you a Masterwork Gear.
Now what they need to do is make it so The Monitior on Grandmaster difficulty will always drop a weapon or something, and that on Grandmaster 2 and 3, there will be a guarantee chance for the boss to drop a Legendary item, that would make it worth for someone. Specially does that are only need Legendary items.
Im telling you. To many people in game development dont like video games. Places like Bioware hire people because of their diversity quotient and not because they know what they are doing. Its all over the industry.
They are making amateur mistakes because too many of them are non gamers who have never played the games that taught those basic lessons in what "not to do".
Bioware is famous for its dive into the identity politics employment swamp.....they tried to blame Andromeda on their "B" team--- but they are all the "C" team now. Minus a few talented people who keep their head down and do their best to keep the ship afloat.....it cant be done when there are so many weak links.
Dragon Age will be no better.....if it ever even gets released. I can see EA bailing before getting embarrassed again.....
Bioware is all but toast. They dont have the talent to fix Anthem....its a darn shame.
Next gen consoles right around the corner no way EA will waste money or other resources fixing this mediocre game when they can focus on rushing out half assed games for next gen in 2020.

Guys - You have to admit that even with the games flaws, pushing out a major loot balance within one week of a community uproar is pretty stellar. I've already crafted and gotten a few drops and can confirm it is a major step in the right direction.

They FINNALLY fixed 1 of the MANY problemes that SHOULD have been FIXED at LAUNCH.
Hate to be cliche with a dark souls example - but they did go with the different-areas-for-certain-loot approach to farming and there's really no way to break their implementation of this mechanic
I've got some advice for Bioware over Anthem.
Close it down. Refund the customers. Walk away.

I think he's right about area specific higher level loot. I played several MMOxs growing up and when you finally reach a higher level it's nice have areas dedicated to only being able to run as a high level. Then being rewarded with high level gear.

Did you know during the mission where you go find haluk and faye during the party you can fuck around with your javelin while in the cutscene? Your character is perpetually falling during the cutscene if you press buttons. My friend took it to the next step and fell through the map during the cutscene and had to quit the game.
Still gave you blokes a thumbs up, because I like you. That said...honestly man, the hate on Anthem is blown way out of proportion. A lot of things that people dinged it for on review scores have already been fixed. I love Laymen, but man...I wish somebody on TH-cam had some more nuanced views and opinions.
D3 was dogshit for me because the core game was so wildly different to D2 or D2 LoD. I've since played it again and as someone who's played Blizzard games for 17 years, D3 is NOTHING like what I wanted. It crushed me when I first played it-- I knew the old Blizzard I loved was dead.

The biggest lesson of the Diablo 3 is they heard the community and reboot the game for the better. Mark Darrah is more likely to follow the ME:A / Patrick Soderlund precedent and just walk away.

I have like every gun and every masterwork item needed for my jav but inscriptions sucked until now, and there is a specific farming thing like components from legendary contracts, would be nice to have consistent legendary farming to some degree

I received an Element Rage Assault Rifle masterwork weapon that is sort of only useful with the Storm build, but even then I notice next to no difference really so I’m left scratching my head noticing any difference. Also there’s a great number of negative buffs, an example being elemental attunements where it’ll boost your elemental damage by 50% but will take away 35% off their base weapon damage - I’m guessing it taxes you for using your weapons when all I’m trying to is effectively use both. In addition there’s this bug where even if I only have one loadout total, I still can’t salvage a handful of items as they’re locked away from doing so. I want the game to work, but the loading screens are ludicrous. 3-4 loading screens to leave a mission, update loadout, and find a new mission. It’d be easier if you could pick up new missions from the Arcanists, Freelancers & Sentinels in the actual expedition page under a slot saying add new contract - it’s way too clunky doing one at a time especially if they’re setting you up to go and talk to this person to get the new contract, it’s more like a harrowing ordeal with your time than actual gameplay. The Path to Glory is ridiculous if they want you to actually complete it because all I can think about is 5-6 loading screens per mission start to finish, 25 contracts, 25 strongholds, 25 something else and 100 world missions - that’s maybe 5-600 loading screens - 9 to 12 hours in waiting time is a little absurd don’t you think, it outweighs the amount of time it took me to finish the game itself so that’s a little sobering.
Anthem is way better then Diablo 3 lmao.
im pretty sure he meant the borderlands system for targeted farming, you want unique items dropping from certain enemies, doesn't have to be the best items in the game with the highest damage, just unique.

My first Masterwork component after the loot patch, the "special" trait was that while hovering the damage is increased by 0% (yes, zero) hashtag glare. [Just playing until division 2 comes out, well there probably isn't more for me to do in Anthem...]

I think his comment about targeted farming areas is more about loot tables with specific drops in specific strongholds. If you want the XXX sniper rifle, it drops in Temple of the scar as an example. Better loot tables would go a long way to improve player experience.
Sam buddy, playing through legendary on Halo3 and getting the sword on your back was such a sense of pride, and didn't ruin the experience at all. Things like that just aren't in games anymore and it's so frustrating since that's what so many of us want.
Yea the division does it well. Going to specific incursions to get specific items so that when you find it and complete your build THEN you go and play the other areas with your completed set Sam. It's actually a perfectly viable and preferred tactic farming because if the game itself is great (which anthem isn't) but if it is you will want to go to other areas no matter what.
Always worth sticking around to the end for the end music.

I agree with the targeting farming. I feel if bosses have loot tables like wow or other mmos it incentivizes all sorts of content for what you specifically want
Things like strength for mages _used_ to be stuff for those weird obscure and bizarre builds before they 'streamlined' the games where any other stat that isn't directly related to your class quite literally has no effect on you. In D2 you could make a musclewizard and not feel bad about it.
