People complain that they’re too many singing and dancing competition shows, and I generally agree. But when I actually think about it, imagine how many amazing singers and performers we would have missed out on over the past 20 or so years. These shows have produced mega stars!

I think maybe it would have been better to say maybe she feels like female vocal performances these days are really sexualized and vocal ability suffers as a result and that her comment was sort of a generalized observation of that during that particular show.
