Oh my goodness! I didn’t know how extremely Blessed I have been during my 82+ years! from childhood with relatives a mutual agreement was that we alternated the Thanksgiving and the Christmas date for each side of the family. I only remember good times. Then when I was to Chicago to school, I remember the times I was to Albin & Florence’s home (when I couldn’t get home to KS). I was so welcomed to Fran & Dell’s home, sisters of Florence. Never did I get any sense of serious disagreement. Rick & Dale. The sons of Albin & Florence and their families. Plus another sister of Florence and their family! I was welcomed to the long table that spread into 2 rooms! I remember appreciation expressed in many ways, laughter, stories, all good stuff with the delicious food! These times were between 1960 & 1964! I seriously don’t think John remembers me, but I remember the young boy sitting on a chair quietly observing what was going on with adults. Only good memories. Tell John I still appreciate him and his family as they all welcomed me during that time and since.

I blew it yesterday when I was given a task at the end of a long day to admit an old man to a nursing home and instead of just accepting it I blew up for a minute. The task giver was just a messenger and the task was wholly appropriate. I felt bad about it all night. I did the task and funnily enough as I spoke to the old man at the nursing home I said you're a very content old man whats your secret?
    He said "I know Jesus"

On the serious side, I’m one of those parents with an estranged child, and during this holiday season, it is so hard. I’ve been praying daily for many years, but I admit I’m losing hope of an door opening in this situation.
Your words today come as a lifeline. You reminded me that there are people on the periphery of my life I can reach out to, people I could create a tighter bond with. It gives me a sense of something to do, a way forward, instead of retreating into the loneliness I often feel.
Thank you for the encouragement. I really needed to hear this today. Doors can open up, usually when we least expect them to. God is good, always good!

Thanks, John, for a great laugh this morning. I saw this online.
Welcome to the annual family feast, where optimal personality compatibility ensures everyone survives the turkey coma. Each family member will be seated scientifically to minimize debates (looking at you, Uncle Bob) and maximize gravy-sharing efficiency. The code includes critical guidelines: one plate of food at a time (leave enough dressing for Aunt Carol!), a whipped cream limit of one dollop per pie slice (you’re not building a snowbank), and no political discussions until at least the second serving of mashed potatoes. Signing this code is mandatory, with penalties including dish duty or explaining the Wi-Fi password to Grandpa. Family harmony is just one signed pledge away!

We have astrangement in our family. It is painful and I've learned I cannot force reconciliation, but I can pray for it and have God change my heart and make it ready for such a moment.

I'm prayerfully considering what you shared as I have pulled back from people pleasing in recent years. It has seemed to me that the Holy Spirit is encouraging me to trust HE is at work and I need to let go & put my trust in HIM. Thank you for sharing this - in Christ we trust 🙏 His blood and resurrection has won our victory!!!

I haven't spoken to my father since February 2018. Its part of a pattern that has existed since I was in my twenties. I disappoint him, he cuts me off. Now I'm 58. Previously, I was always the one who reached out, this time, I couldn't do it anymore. I vacillate between feeling as though I should contact him and not wanting to go through the same thing again. My father is 83 now, and we're running out of time.
