**PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU COMMENT** : Anyone leaving derogatory, deprecatory, disrespectful, demeaning, suggestive or sexually explicit comments will be permanently **banned** from the SMA channel, reported to TH-cam and all comments removed. Yes they are female, we all know this. They are also a minors so think with your big head, not you little one...

I love it when these 2 young ladies work on their own vehicle... I know guys who wouldnt know how to take a tire off... I was at the gas station the other day, 2 grown men were arguing with each other because neither one knew how to put gas in their vehicle, I watched em for a good 10 minutes as they were trying to figure out the extremely hard task of removing their gas cap... These 2 make me proud!

I say this as a father of four daughters. The enthusiasm and happiness of all three of you together is so refreshing to see in a world where there isn’t much of it. They obviously respect you as a father and a mechanic, and you have the devotion, patience, and love to train them and let them learn. Excellent video!

I'm at least a billion percent sure that Hannah and Eric are related somehow. Side profile of the cheek bones are similar plus on one of this channel's older videos, they were working together on something and both were in frame for a long period of time--you could see how they both had similar way of articulating certain facial muscles...it had to have been genetically coded. I say they're related by blood.

South Main Auto Repair You run into that in every business I’m afraid. I used to do a lot of freelance programming and debugging work. The client will spend weeks, even months, and untold hundreds of man hours trying to fix the issue in-house with no success (or often negative success where they make things worse than before they tried) before they would finally pass the job off to me. Two or three hours later I’ve debugged their code, fixed several dozen other flaws throughout the codebase (if a mistake was made once in programming it is often repeated many more times) and then you pass the fixed product and a $300-400 bill back to the client. Then comes the phone call where they insist the bill is too much because “they could have done it themselves for free since it was so easy to fix”. You ask them how many weeks/month’s they spent trying before they gave up and ask how many man hours they spent trying to fix it (often hundreds, or more) before they finally gave up, then you ask what they pay that employee(s) ... and then crickets - they never want to admit they spent thousands, or tens of thousands, of dollars on labor, weeks or months of (sometimes critical) downtime, and then wanted to complain that it cost them a few hundred dollars to fix the problem (and several dozen others they did not even know about, yet!) in mere hours once they passed the job off to someone who actually knows how to fix and debug code!
Just because one can program does not necessarily mean one is a skilled debugger as it is very much an acquired skill that requires an intimate knowledge of the hardware, the operating system, and the underlying programming language and compiler specifics and how they all come to interact together. Just like an automotive engineer may know how to design and engineer every component in a given vehicle and, yet, have absolutely no idea how to repair that vehicle when something goes wrong!
      We humans are funny creatures!

@@ethanpoole3443That is a spot on. It takes the right kind of mind and attitude as well as lots of experience to be as good a diagnostician as Eric. Some never get there. Their minds just do not work the right way.

Mark Lawes Fortunately, one of the more wonderful aspects of humanity is that we are both many and varied, so there are minds and intellects tailored to just about anything and everything, we just have to recognize both natural and latent talents in children and young adults and act to foster and encourage their curiosity and innate understanding so that they can become what they were meant to be. And some are gifted enough to become more than one thing which also brings new and unique insights and understandings.

As the father of two daughters, I *loved* this video. They were being age-appropriately giggly and silly and at times seeming like they didn't know an impact wrench from a left-handed hammer, but at the same time, they were right in there getting their hands dirty, figuring it out, asking good questions and getting 'er done. GREAT JOB, ladies, and great job teaching, Mr. O!
My 20yo's friend complained about being charged $80 to get a headlight bulb replaced - just the bulb, not the assembly. My daughter said "oh, honey, if you have another bulb burn out, CALL ME - we'll go buy a replacement together, and I'll show you how to put it in!" The student becomes the teacher. :-)

My 17 year old daughter can change an elevation motor on a treadmill and calibrate it correctly. She is not afraid to get her hands dirty and jump in it with dear old dad. I am blessed.
Eric you are a blessing for how you teach the younger folks. They will carry it with them for the rest of their lives. Eric thank you for all of your videos, they are the bomb.

This is the best SMA video I've watched so far (and I'm here all the time!). You kept back just enough for them to work things out themselves and only stepped in when absolutely necessary. You never made them feel dumb when they struggled and it was an absolute joy to watch young women being given the skills from a traditionally male-only domain. I hope these two will continue to learn how to fix their cars and if they want to, follow it through to a career. Female mechanics are rare but can get a LOT of business from women car owners who are wary of the typical macho garage culture. Well done ladies. If you can do it, any woman can do it - but too many think they can't (because that's what they've been told). Go girls! ...and Kudos to Eric for being such a cool guy.

it was lovely to see these two lovely ladies pulling that car apart and fixing it despite there obvious inexperience. the fact that they got stuck in, got the job done, with minimal assistance and had a bloody good laugh wile they did it made my day. i didn't believe for a second they couldn't and its very nice to see you supporting them by allowing them free range of your tools and offering "tips of the day" when they get stuck or are about to mess up a bit. mind you they both seem very smart and switched on anyway so im sure they are soaking up your wealth of knowledge. i love that when you say "if i can do it, so can you" you bloody well mean it.

Eric, you so have to get these two girls a small 4-stroke motorbike to work on, something they can take the skin off and see how the machine as a whole acts together to become alive, they have such potential, and you really are the best to help them discover that, a motorbike has basically everything a car has just in a smaller, easier to grasp concept. Engine mounts hold the engine, starter switch activates the solenoid, that turns the starter motor, that turns the engine. At the same time the ECU is receiving a pulse from the stator which is activating the coil which is sending a high voltage down the lead to the spark, as well as charging the battery and powering the lights. Then let them take the top off so they can see how the valves work, then take of the side to view the timing chain, then take of the clutch cover so they can see how that works, then the cylinder block so they can see the piston moving, then how the carb works with the vacuum from the engine (or injectors depending on the engine), find a old injector and show them how it injects fuel into the cylinder, these girls have so much fun doing their own car, and you can see the potential in them that even though it may not be a full time career (as I think one wishes to become a nurse?), it will be such a education that will stay with them forever!... Please, if you can do that, ask if they would be interested, if so, then you could almost go back to basics with your own subscribers and help them understand the fundamental basics, as I'm sure there are many subscribers and watchers out there who would love that sort of background introduction to what makes a vehicle such an amazing machine and what it really is if you remove nearly all of todays modern electrics and OBD stuff, so to speak.

Thank you Eric for allowing the ladies to use your workshop and the tools which are both your profession and your income, I know (as many of us will) that DIY tools aren't cheap, and professional tools come in at nothing short of needing a loan, they are very fortunate to have someone who trusts them. I've a good friend who's a mechanic, I try not to pester him with problems, but he's very supportive of my DIY+ home mechanic skills, and lets me use his specialist tools (£400+ scanners etc) to do things, or when I'm at my wits end will come along and do a task in ten minutes that I've been struggling with for hours, and I in return am very clingy about my own tools if my son 'uses' them, it's taken me 30yrs to amass the small collection I have today, they're precious to me in a weird kinda way. Also, thank you girls for a entertaining video, these are the sort of tasks that many of us cut our teeth on when our vehicles failed their MOT's (in the UK, by law, most vehicles have to have a yearly roadworthiness test, it's called a MOT as the acronym for the Govt. body who originally introduced it who were called the Ministry of Transport). Control arms, excessive play in steering rack, excessive play in track rod end, play in wheel bearing, all fundamentally common failures, but the worse culprit would be blown bulbs and rusting in 'prescribed' areas. A thick wooly hat or a cap saves the sharp pain of hitting your head on the car or the jack, still hurts, but not as bad, it also saves your hair from getting all gritty, but it wouldn't be as much of a education if you didn't have a few scrapes. You ladies are getting a really valuable education in home, DIY mechanics (as we all are watching the video's Eric and his family are kind enough to produce and let us watch), you'll gain experience and confidence under Eric's watchful eye and of course his never ending lifelines, you really are very, very lucky and it's wonderful watching you learn, even if you are a bit cheeky to the teacher, which just makes it all the more funnier :-D And yes, Eric's 'tap' is what most people would call a 'WHACK", but so much of what you do on a car comes with it's own sixth sense, you sorta learn what needs your gentle 'tap' and what needs a Eric style 'whack'. You had the right tools to make the job easier and to complete it safely, it was a task that needed doing and you did it as well as anyone could do that job. Would LOVE to see you all do the tracking, as Eric said, that job can throw the tracking out, it can make the steering pull to one side or the other, I've changed track rod ends so many times, the book says 'count the threads', but I'm sure Eric will say something like 'measure from the inner track rod nut to the middle of the track rod end on the old one, then measure to get the same on the new one', counting the threads doesn't work, there's little tricks and tips to so much stuff, I'd love to see a video on the tracking and whilst I know what it's for, I don't fully understand how to calculate the toe in/out, and I think you two will find that very educational and informative.
