"The Things They Carried With Them".....one of the best books I have ever read. Hands down. It is phenomenal and beyond intelligent. I read it twice in a row over a period of four days.

This is the problem with the world that we live in. After listening to this video, a comment on his hat. We are still in the same kind of trouble we were in in Viet Nam in 1969. "O_o his hat" … then off to the polls to elect the next Congress and the next President based on what? Probably their hats.

@@johnedward9011 Actually "John Edward" (if that's even your real name) I have to disagree with you. O'Brien's hat is one of great symbolism. While you see the "problems" with pointing out his splendid head garment, myself and Nicole s see the truth that lies beneath. The hat contains O'Brien's thoughts, and conveys his authority. Maybe if you spent less time googling when the Vietnam war was and spent more time thinking, you too would be wearing a hat. So I agree with Nicole s! O_o his hat...! By commenting about how we are "still in the same kind of trouble we were in in Vietnam," you are making yourself a part of the problem (despite how much you tell yourself you are the solution). Maybe take a step back from your velvet armchair, turn off your record player and look out the window for once in your life. Think to yourself if liking someone's hat really holds the same significance as the mass murder that was Vietnam. Did you think about it? Did you come to a conclusion? The next time you go outside to buy your "organic" groceries, or to purchase coffee beans for your French press, take a look around you and find someone wearing a hat. Remember this comment, and realize how inferior to the hat wearer you really are. Take a reflective look at your shallow, pretentious life and your futile attempts to "break the wheel," and go by a hat. maybe then you will realize the error of your ways, and maybe then can you make an impact on the world. And you know what? Next election, my vote goes to the candidate with the nicest hat. I'll be damned whether they're Republican, Democratic or Libertarian. They have the guts to wear a hat, and this is the type of confidence we need in our government.
