If anyone's on the fence about Martin's masterclass, I've learned sooo much from the studio portrait editing alone, well worth the cash!!!! Nicley put together course, not alot of "filler" content if any.. especially helped my post lighting game
"Simple portrait lighting for outdoor shooting" would be what I would wish for. Maybe even split up into several videos "... on sunny days" - "on cloudy or overcast days" - "in low light / blue hour / street style". It shouldn't require me to buy a 700 $ mobile flash light with a stand. Thanks so much for listening to us!
Wow! What an excellent video. So very practical. Stuff I sort of know, but have never put together in such a cohesive way, like how to find light sources for your subject. So simple, yet probably overlooked by many...especially me! 😅
Very interesting. Im working on high contrast moody black and white portraits. I would like to watch a video with your take on this style please. Thanks
Most of my shoots are natural light. My only flash is a speedlight. I find natural light photos are my favorite! Time of day, and subject placement are critical!
Great advice on finding the proper natural light for portraits, thank you! Perhaps a video for dealing with different light in landscapes, that can at times get complex. Many times I have learned to just camp out and wait for the light to happen.
Awesome breakdown of natural light techniques. Would be cool if you did a behind the scenes video at a photo shoot where you demonstrate these techniques in action. Thanks for all you do.
7:10 Just as I was about to ask this question, Martin goes ahead and covers it. Many of the photographers that I follow on social media create some great portraits in nature. Are they avoiding color casts because they're shooting in overcast weather? Are they evening out the skin tones in post-production?
I find that the color cast will go away if the background is not green so if you’re shooting on grass and you get down a little low and the sky is in the background it’s going to be fine, but if you’re shooting on the grass and behind them is a bush or close by is a very green tree you’ll have more problems
Nice video. How about doing videos on shooting different editing styles , and the best natural light or exposure required to achieved those different styles - light and airy, dark and moody as well as natural styles. It may even include editing techniques , to achieve these styles.
@@MartinCastein Learnd a lot from yout channel especially in using a 85mm differently. That gave me my best shot of 2024. Are you open for feedback on photo's? Because I like to share that particular shot.

Thank you and glad you enjoyed it!
Yes I absolutely agree. It's very good. I've often found myself going back to it and rewatching segments. Thank you, Martin!!!
@ thank you Nick!
Thank you for these tips, will try some of them next week, if its not raining.
Natural light reflected from trees often comes with a strong green tint, and can keep you busy in post to get the skin tones right...
yes this is a good point and worth remembering.

Overcast especially feels like a pain to shoot with. Landscape more so than portraits though.
As always, packed with sound practical advice. Thank you!
My pleasure!

hahah well im glad it was still useful, sometimes things like this just point out what we know but arent always conscious of
It's called 'available light' if you're including artificial sources
Yes I’ve never been particularly good with name conventions. I tend to just say things unfortunately.

Sorry using only natural light

I fix it in post, but getting rid of a green tint can be demanding at times...
Would love to see a behind the scenes of one of your shoots. So we could see you work.
The young woman with the short hair is stunning!
I agree!
Loving the images!
Great points, thank you.
Great video. Natural light can be so beautiful
Absolutely!!

would this work for Black and White also?
Yes for sure
@@MartinCastein Thanks, I am asking this because I shoot predominantly BNW

Beautiful photos.
It’s uncanny how the woman in number six could be Dolores O’Riordan reincarnated if not her daughter.
