I understand where you are coming from, my teenage years were in Weymouth, the last days of steam. I would suggest populating your fiddle yard with as many lines as you can fit. Keep it simple and you will get good results. Best wishes.

If you're basing as very late 1930's, a Manor would be eligible traffic, replacing the moguls, and having a lighter "blue" route classification. Also, the G.W.R logo is a post-war livery, with the GWR Shirt button emblem being common with maybe some traffic still running a Great Western livery. Since I'm basing my layout on late 1930's era, I'm finding that sourcing appropriate liveried traffic can be challenging, though the model manufacturers have recently begun catering to all the post-1920's liveries.

I feel your pain with the liveries. Ideally I'd like to rebadge my locos with the full "GREAT WESTERN" lettering, but that's not a priority just yet!

I like your thinking very much! There are many lines that very-nearly became reality and these locations can be open doors for the imagination as it has with your plan. Looking forward to the updates as and when they come! Happy New Year!

Nice bit of reasoning you've done there. Your double mainline with a branch looked a lot like what I've decided to build. Takes eternity to build yeah, but that is because I'm so indecisive 😅

I'm in the process of building my first layout and using DCC++ with JMRI. I've used a MERG Megapoints controller kit with an Arduino Mega as an interface between JMRI and the controller. The controller is a really useful piece of kit.

Great! I've not used DCC before, so it's good to know that there are others in the same boat, and that there are reliable budget-friendly options out there.

    Great video - I’ve subscribed.
What is the software you’re using for your alternative reality illustration of the railway line?

I used Google Maps a lot. The historic map was from maps.nls.uk. the track plan was created in Anyrail, and the 3d model at the end was done using FreeCAD (but that was rather fiddly).

what software are you using for the track design

I'm using the free demo of AnyRail. It's limited to 50 track pieces, but I've not reached that limit yet with my little layout!
