Better question is, how much is China going to be a player in the American consumer market for road bikes as they up their game for 1/2 the money of a SL8. Most will appreciate the overall rideability of a SL8 versus a pure aero bike. Many that don't race aren't hyper focused on aero bikes because they want a taller headtube and more compliancy. The Colgago is merely another iteration of two bikes that already exist, a Cervelo and Bianchi aero bike. It may or may not be a better overall bike. Certainly, the frame at 1100 grams isn't light. PS. in engineering design...I am a mechanical engineer, there is no free lunch. What that means is, you can't have your cake and eat it to. No, the SL8 isn't the most aero bike. But the more aero the bike, it moves away from the overall balance of ride quality and stiffness, the SL8 'owns' and why its such a great bike. Tube shapes like an airfoil will never have the vertical compliance and lateral stiffness...a ratio....that of rounder tube shapes. Moment of Inertia taught in engineering school.
I don’t think I’d say that Colnago is driving innovation in the industry considering that the Y1RS doesn’t have any real groundbreaking features, and is a bit of an amalgamation of others existing solutions, primarily Cervelo (bayonet fork, Y stem, front and rear wheels tucked in the frame, etc) but I am excited to see Colnago bringing a new bike to market, and the continued life of the dedicated aero bike. I am interested to see how it’s used, and if it meaningfully extends the dominance Tadej has had in recent years. I don’t think any of his competitors will be happy to hear he’s now no longer on one of the slowest bikes in the peloton.
I feel like the mixed aero light bike thing was just SKU rationalization strategy around the pandemic. Everyone bought a bike in 2020, but then many many manufacturers over produced circa 2022, eating a bunch of unanticipated losses. As financials stabilize, I think you'll see more SKUs come back to market. Especially with the growth Colnago is seeing from UAE's success.
Honestly in black or blue this bike looks sick. Just looks weird in white color. But personally I don't plan on aero bikes that require crazy special parts.
[the irony of] Pogacar making aero bikes even more popular, just right after Trek destroyed their aero bike with their [over-priced] madonda. At least maybe now the Madone gen 9 could be rebased on the gen 7. Who knows, maybe even the venge could do a comeback.
As much as I agree with the general theme you/re getting at regarding price etc, saying it’s “what the pros use” is not justification enough and comparing it to an F1 car costing hundreds of millions to develop and tens of millions to build is borderline insane. That’s like a football boot or ball manufacturer saying “well that’s what the pros use” to justify a 1k price tag. Just because the pros use it, it doesn’t make it worth what they are charging. I do love the bike though. I love aero bikes visually, even though I don’t have any intention of buying one, I like that it exists.
sorry but wtf. colnago is very late to the aero party. all the other brands bike are in the 202-210 watt range. colnago if you beleive their numbers are now within 1 watt of the best in class (cervelo s5 ? ) . using a good aero helmet/shoes with laces will give you 2-5 watts
@@ArteUltra1195 my point is aero never went away. we had new aero bike introduced in 2024 and the cervelo s5 was updated in 2023. colnago was very late to the party.
FYI outdoorbros. Van Rysel AKA Decathlon just revealed an new Aero bike. 13 watts faster than the tour bike. swiss side did the design. are you going to do another video LOL
The point is the bike is now compliant and aero. Getting smashed every day for 21 days on a non-compliant frame takes it toll. This is innovation and the future.
They made a mistake not sending a demo for testing to you. Your review would have been much more valuable than what we got from a very few videos that are out today.
Apparently this bike is so new Colnago have only made 5 examples and they are all with the UAE Team so no one is getting their hands on one anytime soon.
Not impressed by this bike to be honest. They claim it’s 1 watt faster than what’s probably an SL8. That whole rear triangle is marketing BS. Maybe works on the comfort but not aero.
I’d bet the “Y” behind this bike is losing the Tour de France two years in a row to a team riding the S5 on all but the most uphill stages. Timeline seems like it would match up and while this bike is different, it’s not so different that you can’t see bits from other aero bikes put together. Rather than leading the charge in aero resurgence I’d feel safer categorizing it as them doing the one bike for everything and now wanting to have another SKU for the full aero check box and hopeful Tadej victories
Ah yes because other bikes are so different these days eh? Any new bike is going to be similar to SOMETHING else. If someone releases a new climbing bike do you instantly jump into the comments and say “oh yeah good job, looks just like an Ultimate/Aethos/TCR etc. what a waste 😭 “ I swear some people just look for things to be upset or complain about.
Do we have to be interested in carbon fiber all the time? Let’s see some unique stainless steel frames, not tig welded mind you, rather classic lugged frames and titanium. I understand though.
@ yes they are, in the case of this one I was short saying that is a redesign of cervelo, looks like there is like 5 different bikes features in that new bike. Impressive collection of qualities

I just bought a Scott Foil as my second race bike and I love it. Not really suitable for cruising but excellent for fast flattish courses.
It's not ugly. It's just very techno. Great looking bike (I'm an Engineer).
The real photos of the team and others riding it look amazing. Studio photos and leaks don’t seem to do it justice.
If Pogi ends up destroying the competition next year, we might see the return of the Venge!! 😆
