Shining Force 2 - North Granseal Glitch

- A glitch early in Shining Force 2 allows you to reach North Granseal (normally inaccessible until the end of the game) near the beginning.
Finding a way to play through the game from that point causes some story errors, especially with the villain Geshp.
Anyone notice that Sheela's motivation to join the Shining Force is to kill Red Baron, only for her to say nothing when he joins the force?
No longer the red baron at that point. He was possessed. When they broke the mask he became lemon again.

It wouldn't be that hard for her to figure out that he was possessed. She joins the force before they defeat him.
Do monks kill? She did train with them and became a master monk, train both body and mind. Maybe just beating on possessed Lemon's bloody ass was enough. And technically Zeon and the demon possessing Lemon do get their asses handed to them, so revenge was dished lol.
In the epilogue if you talk to Sheela, she asks if Lemon is ok.
16:41 same thing happens at the end of the game if you dont have bowie promoted and he picks up elis, it changes to the promoted sprite for the duration of that animation.
On the start screen of the game, if you enter:
Up down up B C right left up down up B C right left
You can hold the B button on the overworld and walk through any wall in the game. This means walking on water tiles, mountains, etc. anything in the game that isn’t a load zone. This allows you to get characters out of order and break the game.

The first time I discovered it.. I basically farmed the rings.. All my characters had a Power Ring so I would not have to buy it. Admittedly I also did something like that in the first Shining Force game as well. ( Its more game breaking in Shining Force 1 than it is in Shining Force 2 since you can get more than one in that one.. But normally you can not in the first one. )

@@joshua9832 Only the Japanese version or the gamegear version has it. The first shinging force does not have it in any other version of said game. But the cheats are basically just in-game codes/buttons you press. You can probably still look it up easily.
If I remember correctly there is some story also missing ( as well as gameplay ) from the non Japanese and gamegear versions.. So basically anyone who grew up without the Japanese version got semi screwed over on that. ( Keep in mind I say gamegear version but I could be wrong on that. It could be something else..
All I remember is the mentioning of a later release on a different system for the USA and other countries getting what was missing from the original version of it.
So Bowie becomes Jesus, walking on water and helping vampires convert, lol.
I presume I know the game to the fullest, with or without codes. I’ve played it a thousand times, but I never thought about how it could change history. It’s been surprisingly instructive after so many years. That alone is worth my support and subscribe. Thank you.

Great video. I remember years ago i played on a emulator with a walk anywhere code. Was great to get mithril weapons early and just do a lot of the stuff you did. I remember being able to do that timed bonus stage almost instantly by just running up to the slime and killing it. Never knew you could do this without game genie. Playing legit now and almost to the prism flowers. Next playthough ill try this
I knew about the half tile glitch back in 95 when I played religiously. never thought it would let you get on water like this though.
also had playthroughs where I'd learn a glitched spell called "higgins" it had a heal 1 animation when cast but did nothing.
iirc it appeared on different characters, mostly slade
It appears on Bowie and Slade.
I've learned the Higgins spell before, but never with Slade. For me, it only ever happened with Bowie, and I don't recall if I ever realized why.

My guess is that when the screen transitions, it loads Peter automatically in order to place him where he needs to be standing for the following scene (although I have no idea why it wouldn't do the same for Astral). With the Sheela scene though, no actual screen transition occurs, so the game is never given that same opportunity to place the character.
How did you get to those levels that early? I’d imagine everything would 1xp after a little while and this would take forever unless I’m missing something
He used a Game Genie code at the beginning of the game that ensured going up a level each time he uses a medical herb.
Yeah, the levelling up got really monotonous haha
you could also doing it by using the medical herbs since you get mostly 10xp per use. It just takes a while.
@@justTyping Only healers get 10 EXP for using healing items. Everybody else only gets 1.

Thank you Lena! The music is all sourced from the official Shining Force soundtrack releases Sega made in the 90s. They were orchestral renditions of the music from the Shining Force 1, 2 and Shining Force CD.
in part 1 of the game, the main character eventually consumes water along with the castle. then a scene begins where Maya screams that she does not believe in Max's death. about what will probably happen if Maya dies or she is not taken away at all in this fighter. will this scene be?? ?
Works on the switch with the sega genesis collection. Although without the game genie codes there really isnt much to do. I bought the javelin to give to Chester once he gets promoted but other then that not really anything else i can do. Don’t think i can kill Red Baron at level 8 lol
Yeah, or you could just use the debug cheatcode and walk on anything

Is the Game Genie code really necessary?
Yeah kinda if you want to get anywhere. I just did this glitch and if you play normally youre only level 8 at this point in the game, if you go to north granseal any battle you get into youre going to get beat down rather quick. Not much you can do but go to that town and buy weapons you cant even equip yet with what little money you have. So you can do the glitch without game genie but kinda pointless

looks like the code was entered using a game genie device
EV1A-CAPR (decrypted: 016EAE:2024) is a Game Genie code. In many emulators like Gens, KegaFusion, RetroArch (with a Genesis Plus GX core) or md.emu is an built in option to enter Game Genie or Pro Action Replay codes and then to activate them. If you play SF2 on a real Genesis/Mega Drive hardware you need a Game Genie cartridge. If you play SF2 on a gaming console there will also be a built in option to enter GG or PAR codes.
