I got a story. Me and my mom both buy used goods from thrift stores, garage sales, estate sales. And a few months ago I found some Dolce & Gabbana shoes that looked like regular sneakers with a velvet crown sown onto the side. They were super dirty. Falling apart and in my opinion un-Wearable beacuse they were so worn on the inside heels that the plastic was popping out and would dig into your heel when you walked. I looked them up and used in good shape they were going for $600. I put them back on the shelf. And my mom walks up and I tell her about them. She grabs them and says she's gunna risk the $10 to see if anyone wants them. I say ain't no way you're going to sell those there un Wearable. She sold them within 24 hours for $225. And all of the issues with them were made very clear with very detailed photos of the damage. It's in that moment I lost all hope for humanity.

Good on your mom! When I thrift, I can't stand these "luxury" brands considering how well the counterfeiting market is doing. "A fool and his money are soon parted".
Also, the decrease quality of these products are not worth the price. People just buying the logo. For the price these luxury brands are asking, people should just go get yourself a local tailor and support your local atelier.

I was looking for a nice fragrance for my girlfriend the other day and something similar happened to me. I got treated super poorly and lady that was working there was just absolutely rude for some reason. I didn't understand why since I was super respectful and friendly. Within a minute I was out of the store. I just didn't want to keep on shopping at a place where the employees treat the customer like that.
So instead, I went to their competition and got helped by this super kind and helpful woman. I told her about how I was treated and how confused I was about the other store and looking back at it, she didn't seem surprised. It is crazy that people fall for this absolutely wild to me!

He once pulled me aside and asked why I "act like a pus*y," and money will fix me, that "once you (I) get five figures in my checking account, I'll hold myself different." So I have just a few brands I buy clothes for, one of them is Levi's, if I need to buy clothes, I buy up till that 10% from that savings. Few months ago, my jeans needed to be replaced, had €2000,- in the bank. Spent about €180 in total on a couple of discount products. I take great care over my stuff so I don't have to buy a lot of stuff. It's not that hard to buy nice stuff, and not overconsume.

Especially when it comes to dating, it's a damn good filter, just having simple clothes, cheap car, etc.
You don't want to date a girl who was attracted to you by your car.
My dad ran his own business as a mechanic, he did pretty well in life and had what I'd call f*ck you money. But he was in work clothes almost 24/7, like oil stained leather jackets and jeans. A lot of people disrespect someone dressed like that and I think I learned from watching that. It really doesn't f*cking matter what those type of people think.

Someone said that Ferrari does this too and yeah sure they do but externally Ferrari is a sculpture on wheels and underneath the bodywork, it is an engineering marvel. Last weekend Ferrari 296 GT3 won the 24 hours of Nurburgring. The money you spend on it is ridiculous, sure but I believe there is more merit behind that price tag. Than paying 300k for a bag, like does this bag have 4th dimension inside so that my inventory can be endless, will it blow me at least? The R&D going into cars like Ferrari is bonkers and we are benefiting from it too, supercars and luxury cars are the cutting edge of development and that's where most innovation happens. Thanks to economies of scale it becomes cheaper with time and gets introduced to cheaper models until it becomes standard. Mercedes S class is a great example, it introduced fuel injection in 1958, Passenger safety cell with crumple zones in 1959, Anti-lock braking system ABS in 1978, Driver airbag and belt tensioner for front passenger in 1981, and the list goes on. If you want to know what regular cars will have in 10 years look at the S class.
That said, Ferrari are a bit full of themselves as a brand and take themselves too seriously. A good example would be what happened to Deadmouse's Purrari. Also Ferraris were cooler with manual gated shifters. Currently only Porsche is keeping the high-performance cars with manual alive and I salute them.

Ferrari works the same way. Doesn't matter who you are, how much money you have, or how into cars you are..... They will turn you away if trying to buy a new Ferrari, and they will reject your request to buy the newest limited-run models. They will point you to the used/certified pre-owned lot. Where a guy will sell you something to get you in the "Family". Basically the way it works is he chats with you for a bit, gets an overall feel of you, asks you a few questions and what you want in the future. He darts off to do a little of his own homework, when he comes back he will either take you to a section of the lot where you can pick (you don't want this) what you want, or if they feel you will be "Good" to the brand and come to events, he will present you with "a car" he tells you, you are buying this one (This is what you want, you are into the promise land) you at no point are compelled to buy it, but you have to understand, this is a test, that lasts between 1 and 5 years.
You pay for it, and you will be asked if you want to factory option it (about an additional $100k), you say yes, sign the paper work and come back in a few weeks to a month to organize delivery.
Depending on your behavior and willingness to cooperate with the brand, showing up to events (they take attendance), do your service at time intervals (doesn't matter if you have driven it) and be nice to the reps, staff, don't trash talk, if you have an issue with the car, no public stunts, trashing the brand, keep the car clean and conspicuous.
After you make it past their trial, you will get a phone call. This phone call will be fteindly, you will be informed they have a car for you.... you are expected to buy it. It may not be new, it may not be the latest, but it is a part of the process. After some time of this rinse process repeating, they will call and ask if you are willing to part ways with all or a few specific models you own. You don't have to if you really like them and have time to bring them to events. Later on you will get a phone call asking you if you want to get on the list for a few specific cars some rare , some new. You only put your name on what you are actually willing to instantly buy at full retail (with options). Time goes by, and you get that phone call for a car on your list. You buy it.
Then one day, you are "by invitation only allowed get a new rare model"
This is the literal embodiment of "Well call you, don't call us".
Over all this time (3 to 8 years) you have built a relationship with the reo, local dealer, and Ferrari corporate is fully aware of you. Corporate will invite you to finally come pick your colors, leather, options, wheels, nearly every darn little thing you can spec you can. It will feel like you are the Pope, British royalty, and the President of the United States at the same time. Now, you get to order any car you want at anytime m, the only limitation is rarity and production run, you have just purchased and passed the test to be a part of an extremely exclusive customer base.
I know it seems a bit much, but I understand it too, they aren't trying to sell millions of them, and they don't want to be on every street corner like a Toyota and a Honda. You have purchased exclusivity.
The other way to get in is to be extremely popular and liked by many around the globe.
You ever wonder why Jay Leno doesn't have a Ferrari? Because he has never gone through the process or shown that he will be good to the brand. Thus they have never extended him an invitation. The last thing they want is this guy trashing thier car on live T.V. on something stupid like coffe and cars. Also why a guy like Jeremy Clarkson has all the acess.

It was 350 dollars on sale during Black Friday. There is value in quality, expensive products. Kind of the same as earbuds. My mom would buy $7 earbuds from the library. They would last MAYBE a month, and then she would have to buy another pair. She did this for a few years before I convinced her to buy a single pair of $50 ear buds, they lasted 3 years. Single use products and cheap quality products are the opposite side of this same coin.

    1. Nike and Puma only had very lean ones my feet wouldn't fit and Lotto wasn't available, anyrhing else is/was trash (Adidas always kept the "old" broader designs so it wasn't even expensive).

Ya know when I was young I was into paintball and airsoft for like five minutes and remember looking at designer fake cosplay military shit and realised most of it was more expensive than the actual real equipment, seriously I could buy a russian helmet with a bullet proof visor for a lower price than a plastic mask or a set of goggles.
I remember that put shit into perspective for me as a kid...I instantly understood that most popular mainstream fashion brands don't mean shit...they don't mean superior quality or they're more comfortable or durable and longer lasting...they're just a logo and most of the time it's plasted on garish, gaudy coloured and weird un-optimal disfunctional designs.

Not all designer brands are predatory and over priced. Also Birkin bags are insanely expensive however most of them appreciate value…so you buy one at 300k if you keep them in pristine quality in 5-10 years they can be worth 500k to a several million.
I think caring about brands is goofy however I do think that if you have the money to spend and can afford more quality products then I don’t see the problem.
However the majority of people who can not afford to shop at designer stores who do to try to be perceived as being better off than they are is insane. And some luxury designer brands do try to prey on those who want to be a part of something outside their tax bracket.

But, you can at least SIT in the darn thing. And, the engines actually go brrr... so like the music of my people and all that! It's a bit sad, because I know in the old world there truly were brands that were hand-made, stitched, sculpted, painted, architected, assembled, etc. and truly were pinnacles of peerless excellence and timeless design. Now, we all know those skills were lost to bulk manufacturing overseas circa 2003 🤪

Not because they want to for looks or can afford it but because they are asked to go to events in New York and then need to be back in Texas for other events later that week or even day. My mother still is stingy with money and saves where she can. Shows between business people and wanting to be luxurious I guess.

I like many luxury brands. They actually typically have great quality and last longer. Sometimes you buy cheap you get worse quality. That said however...
I buy majority of my stuff 2nd hand. People that own it tend to take good care of it. So I'll get some 150$ sweater for 30$. It's great lol. That's smart shopping.
FYI almost all stores destroy their merch this isn't exclusive to luxury brands. It's because people go dumpster diving...and instead of buying from the store they just wait. And yes because people will dumpster dive to return to the store. It's bad for buisness. But many businesses do it.

We threw away an Average of 4-6 XXL Pizzad , Calzones , Pizza Rolls etc , we wanted to Donate all of our left overs to a Homeless shelter that was Literally 1 Block over from us & Legally they are Laws in Place Preventing Food Businesses from Giving Food to Shelters/Food Kitchens.
We built a wooden Box & we would put close to the dumpster (couple feet away) and we would put any food that didn't sell in that box for the Homeless that were dumpster Diving.

Get a Tesla or EV in general. Never have to stop by a gas station to fill up once in a while. Maintenance every 2+ years instead of every year. Talk about min-maxing. On top of having a nicer and/or faster car in general. It really is something not having to ever go back to a gas station and having your car "filled up" every time you leave your house (assuming you leave it plugged as you sleep or more time than that). Tesla has Autopilot, which is admittedly flawed, but the free version that comes with the car is massively useful for bumper to bumper traffic. You literally don't have to look at the road when traffic starts and stops every 15-30 secs.

It’s interesting that she’s targeting Hermes in this regard, its ridiculous how much the stuff costs, but then you can also trivially resell it if you want. Like if you can buy a Birkin you absolutely should, because you can walk out of the store a resell it for probably 3-4k profit without even trying. My wife was offered a limited edition bag that someone offered her $40k for the next day, she turned them down because that was a lowball offer. There’s an excellent book about this called “Bringing home the Birkin” that talks about the culture behind it, the guy figured out how to get Birkins easily and would buy every one he was offered because he had multiple clients who would buy as many as he could get his hands on.

So with the bag burnings, is the 37M the cost it takes to make and transports the bags, or the price tag of the bag. Because they could have a 10x mark up, and suddenly 3.7M in bag burnings to secure insane margins looks pretty good. Or they could pay to transport all the bags back and recycle the materials, which probably would cost more then just burning them.

Great video. Just wanted to add some additional info to her claim at 37:40. It is generally agreed in large parts of climate economy that those who are the poorest will suffer most economically from climate change impacts. An interesting report is the "Climate inequality report 2023" by the World Inequality Lab. The bottom 50% of global emitters contribute only 12% of the world's emissions, but face 75% of the income losses. Conversely, the top 10% of people (AKA the rich people) emitting greenhouse gases are only estimated to face 3% of the economic losses. It's largely because of food insecurity, disease spreading, mental health decline, flooding and heatwaves (Many of these factors being most prevalent in poor countries in hot areas with high risks of floodings). So, the poorer you are, the more you economically have to lose from climate change. And that large effect is starting to be seen even at mid-income levels globally, increasing class differences. If you got this far, thanks for reading.
