It’s honestly a good car. The little concerns that I have are with the white upholstery, the lack of attention to detail in the infotainment UI and that whistling noise at all speeds coming from the panoramic roof. All of which o have pointed out either in this review or in the walk-around. I would definitely buy it over a Scorpio N or a Compass even if I was buying in that space.
Lovely presentation. Instead of a car review its sounded more like a story telling. That's the magic of Rohit. Not boring viewers with the techy stuff and boring stats. The verdict is crisp and clear. |Now if you guys can make a comparo video between the Thar ROXX and Gurkha 5 Door. I want to know who among these 2 has a rock solid build and can stand the test of time and element? Who can gobble up miles like a train and keep occupants in relative comfort? And who has the best mileage?
Thank you 🙏🏼 As for your query - I had to omit comparing it to the Gurkha in this particular review only because of the lack of enough visual footage and lack of editing time between driving day before and giving you all this video this morning. But anyway, the Gurkha feels very utilitarian compared to the Roxx. The Roxx is plusher in comparison and while the plastics don’t match the Koreans on quality, they are better than the Gurkha. The powertrain refinement is also better in the Roxx and so is the seating comfort. The Gurkha is using older but proven tech, so in the reliability department I’m sure it will do extremely well. But the Thar has proven engines too, so it shouldn’t be much of a concern.
Simply the best demo of the new Thar Roxx. Presentation is spot on, and the choice of themes and video clips is brilliant. Comparisons with other brands are meaningful and informative.
5* review ❤. For me, accommodating 1 lit bottle in each door is very important for long journeys with lesser speakers. A serious omission. For someone who doesn’t want to speed down on thousands of speed breakers and broken termac, flood etc Roxx is the car.

I disagree with the comment that this outshines Compass. It will definitely do in sales. But Compass is a different vehicle altogether. We can't deny its quality because of its sales. I know from many XUV owners about the poor service experience of Mahindra. There are many Jeep dealers who do excellent service. Compass is a quality package. Jeep owners know it. Infact it was the bench mark for quality under 35L. The question is that can we get a Jeep compass quality with much lower price with any of the brand? The answer is no. You may get features but not the quality. Thar RoXX is a good vehicle for its price.
Here's a 'nice' Thar (3 door) owner, looking to book the 5 door as the primary car. We camp, overland, tour, and go interstate every 2 months. Perfect touring vehicle for India, easy engineering and can be repaired at reasonable cost anywhere. We are so lucky to have an Indian manufacturer, make in India - at Indian prices, with global tech (that ADAS will make DME mile munching a piece of cake). Was considering the Fortuner, but that price point is just ridiculous for what you get in return. The Roxx (hate that silly name btw) is probably more capable off road, and decent enough on road. Now, the long wait to get my hands on one!
Why doesn't Mahindra give automatic transmission & 4x4 in all variants. Saving it only for expensive variants is not a good trick at least for me. Come on Mahindra its Thar after all.
The design could have been more matured and simplified. Especially the rear door handle position, shape of the C pillar, roof design and the design on the D pillar etc..

Such cars are lighter, easier to handle but don’t have the rigidity of a ladder-frame design. All hatchbacks, sedans, crossovers - Seltos, Creta, XUV700 etc. are examples of this type.
