We had a baby duck born one winter in our shed. I had to bring it into the house. I raised him that winter until spring. His name was Roger. He played in my bathtub and followed me around the house. I was surely his mama. He followed be everywhere. Like a puppy. He eventually lived with the others. And they took him in outside. Best memory ever. Ducks are so amazing! Love your channel so much. God bless you!

You are really a good person :D I like ducks too. My dad used to own a farm and I always wanted to keep a duck and raise it. My dad told me I couldnt because I was around 6 at the time and had no idea how to care for any pet. Im glad he said no because if I had my hands on those things I would probably accidentally kill them. But in the future when im responsible enough ill surely try to take care of one ^^

Can we just appreciate how this man is so selfless and helps the animals at all costs? I believe this man has and will save many birds and other animals, more often than not animals from supermarket eggs or almost extinct species.
What a splendid heart,I’ve been watching his videos for a year and this sock hack saved one of my chicks a long time ago,I owe him a so much as a thank you so much for what you do.
Yeah! As this one comment once said: People: praise him : no, *become* him An inspiration that people can indeed become like him with the same dedication and ambition towards the craft. He’s still a working human
I am always mesmerised by this man. He's such a kind caring selfless human i think I've ever come across on the Internet, if only the world had more of him. Beautiful soul, you can just tell how dedicated he is in everything he does 💯🥰
He’s the Mother Nature of birds !! :D (I mean,, he fits all of the requirements and I don’t think physical sex is a part of it) (Religiously) Idk how many angels stay to reside on earth(mortal world) to tend to god’s creatures.. and I feel he wouldn’t have to tell people to “not be afraid” when delivering messages from the upstairs. But if the angel is anything like Aziraphale,, *definitely. No questions needed* But I think he should still be mortal, just in a sense where his audience could feel like they are able to become inspired by his work,, so he can spread the message and more people can rise to the same level of care and love towards birds (he’s definitely ambitious though.)
This may be my new favorite! The obvious love and dedication this man shows his animals and their response to him are so moving, these touch and warm my heart each time. Thank you so very much for what you do for the animals and for sharing it with us.❤❤❤❤❤
I see a lot of questions below about how they became endangered so I thought I would offer my two cents: I'm of Dutch descent living in America and my dad used to raise the Dutch Hookbill (among other breeds and animals). I always thought they were a bit homely, personally, but my dad is all about anything "from the motherland" and would always say, "ain't they purdy?" (he's so cute about his animals) He quit his Hookbill operation about 10 years after he retired. He loved them but it was time for him to enjoy his retirement and travel. I've asked him if he misses it and he says, "The ducks, yes, but not the responsibility". He still keeps other ducks and geese but none whose future depends on him, lol, and you'd have thought that the entire breed's existence depended on him, alone. He took it very seriously. He loves all his animals but these birds were special to him....they were Dutch and they were in trouble. Anyway, to the comments about how they became endangered.....this was not an evil perpetrated by humans. Dutch Hookbills are small, like half the size of our other ducks, but they are great egg layers and that was the primary reason they were kept....as well as the fact they are fantastic foragers and could find their own food easily. My guess is that duck eggs became less popular than chicken eggs and the Hookbill isn't large enough to be kept for meat. They are small, like 5 pounds at most and that's half the size of our other ducks. Also, from what my dad told me, the way they were farmed in Holland is the farmer would clip their wings and turn them loose to swim and hang out on the canals, and then just collect the eggs from the nest. That's probably not a great farm model anymore. If you have to keep the ducks right at your place it doesn't matter if they can feed themselves so maybe you keep bigger ducks that have some meat on them and are also good layers? Anyhoo, that's my guess. I could be wrong. I wish I could share with you the video of Dad putting the ducks "to bed" at night. He has a beautiful river slowly winding through his place and the ducks and geese spend the day on it. In the evening he walks down to the water and calls them and they all come in and then follow him to the coop, quacking and honking and raising quite a ruckus. In the morning it was the same, only louder, when he let them out. We call him "Father Goose" and all the kids love "the duck and goose parade". They are especially thrilled to lead it with him. It's adorable.
You are correct. After WWII, duck egg sales plummeted and they aren't considered a dual purpose breed, so that contributed to it and the chaos of the war. But they didn't clip the wings. The ducks were trained to return at night is my understanding. So in the 70's or 80's, I believe, some Dutch were able to recover about 30 hens and 15 drakes from the wild and conservation efforts have been ongoing since. This breed is a very old heritage breed, showing up in records and in paintings as early as the14th century or so. Charles Darwin mentions the breed in some of his writings. But their numbers aren't quite so low as this video suggests. They number prob in the low 1000's across Europe. And Dave Holderread imported some to the US about 20 years ago and numbers probably match close to that here now. It's hard to know exactly as a true consensus isn't done.
@@jenniferlawrence5396 Oh, thank you! I was just guessing so it's nice to have confirmation. As you can see by some of the comments some people tend to assume that the extinction of a breed is due to some ill intent from humans. With domestic animals it's usually there just isn't a demand for whatever the product was. Thanks for the additional information. I'll share it with my dad.
I can't believe how much time, patience and money you put into saving animals in need. Many people just look away, because of many reasons. But such a love for these little guys, that's very respectable. I just want you to know that people highly respect you for what you do every day and every hour, helping them. I would want to help too, but I neither have the time, nor the knowledge, nor space or money, nor the patience. Anyways, I enjoy watching your videos as they show me a whole different side of humanity that I barely see in my country, where everyone looks away, and very few come to the rescue. It gives me hope.
When I was in grade school, we hatched some chicken eggs. They ALL were like the last duck. It was deeply upsetting. This was the late 90s/early 00s before the internet was widely available and helpful in situations like this. It really warmed my heart to see the last duck recover. Like, tears in my eyes. Unfortunately I don't know what became of the chicks from my classroom. My teacher kinda told us that she had taken them to a farm. And, you know, fourth graders know what that means, they aren't dumb lol.
Tidus TV Mate I agree this is what I wanna do when I’m Old enough I do have some and I love them I take a Care of em But sadly one didn’t make it It die from a young age We think it was because it was so young and that it had been sick when we got her We made a funeral for all the animals that died Even if they were hens or ducks I made sure they had a funeral Because i love them
I guess its something with allowing the muscles and such to develop just a bit more so the duck COULD POSSIBLY walk the next day? But im no duck expert so I'm not entirely sure.
sometimes they need just a bit more time to develop, so the sock acts like an egg, keeps them from moving around too much, and allows the body to sorta catch up. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does
or maybe it similar how people can adapt to those glasses where you see everything upside down it takes like a week i think but you can do it in the same way a new born duckling still has a very malleable mind that is rapidly developing and by forcing them to stay still and upright in the sock the brain can adopt that as the new normal which is of course a major developmental change but that is why it only works sometimes and only ducklings ? that is my guess

However I Hope We Do Fix Our Mistakes So More People Can be Like This Man. Thanks For Showing That There Is Still Good

Ah, who am I kidding.
Ducks ARE amazing...until they decide to poop on your new pants while your In public lol...that happened to me at a friend's house, and since we were visiting I had not other choice but the stay there with my now literally crappy pants. 😂😂😂😅
May God bless you.
You are really a good person :D
I like ducks too.

(I mean,, he fits all of the requirements and I don’t think physical sex is a part of it)
(Religiously) Idk how many angels stay to reside on earth(mortal world) to tend to god’s creatures.. and I feel he wouldn’t have to tell people to “not be afraid” when delivering messages from the upstairs.
But if the angel is anything like Aziraphale,, *definitely. No questions needed*
But I think he should still be mortal, just in a sense where his audience could feel like they are able to become inspired by his work,, so he can spread the message and more people can rise to the same level of care and love towards birds (he’s definitely ambitious though.)

What a beautiful man you father is. Your dad truly does prove "He liveth best who loveth best all creatures great and Small" to be so very true.
Wish i had grown up with something like that.....so lovely.
Awww! Your dad sounds like an awesome guy!!! Thanks for your story! ❤️
This is why this man is so much different than most of us: He places the eggs in a incubator, we place eggs in a refrigerator.

Duckling born with crippling neurological condition.
Human declares _"Nah."_ And that was that.
I don't get this
edit: forget it, i am glad he went nah
how he fix it with a sock?
I guess its something with allowing the muscles and such to develop just a bit more so the duck COULD POSSIBLY walk the next day? But im no duck expert so I'm not entirely sure.
sometimes they need just a bit more time to develop, so the sock acts like an egg, keeps them from moving around too much, and allows the body to sorta catch up. It doesn't always work, but sometimes it does
or maybe it similar how people can adapt to those glasses where you see everything upside down it takes like a week i think but you can do it
in the same way a new born duckling still has a very malleable mind that is rapidly developing and by forcing them to stay still and upright in the sock the brain
can adopt that as the new normal which is of course a major developmental change but that is why it only works sometimes and only ducklings ?
that is my guess

However This Shows Me That There Is Still Hope For This Generation Of Humans, If We Try Hard Enough, Learn From Our Mistakes, And In The Case Of People Who Riot Over Meaningless Things, Put Aside Their Differences Then Maybe In Time WE As A Species Could Become The Species That We Were Intended To Be. However I Hope We Do Fix Our Mistakes So More People Can be Like This Man. Thanks For Showing That There Is Still Good
