People on twitter advocating for disabled people & people with deficient motor skills (what a noble cause!) so that they could enjoy FromSoft games' stories and settings without actually needing to learn any of the games' mechanics. I don't understand why they can't leave this one game studio alone. Just go play every single other title, let us have this one studio that does its own thing without hand-holding and screen markers telling you what to do constantly. It is so bizarre and backwards way of thinking, imagine applying this logic to everything in media and popular culture.

So infamous infact that game journos refer to any game as the "DS of X". Any game that is remotely hard to a journo is immediately compared to dark souls. So why is it surprising that a game made by FromSoft is difficult. If you know who FromSoft are and you should because you're a journo then you KNOW their games are not easy. Don't ask for easy mode. @@R_Seeburg I will say, I am sorry for the LONG reply, but please read through it and you don't even need to respond, but hopefully it will give you a different view point...
As far as I know, the Git Gud Meme started with Cuphead, when a game journalist couldn't get through the TUTORIAL LEVEL. If I am wrong, please let me know.
I never said that Gamers are an elite class of people. In fact, I believe that Gamers are super welcoming to everyone (me included) and the VERY few who ARE elitists, are not liked by anyone.
I agree with you that Gamers are people who simply want to play their games and that games are a hobby to most. However, we as Gamers should not be pushovers by journalists and people who don't understand us that want to degrade and paint us as something that we are not. And we should fight back.
For my credibility, even though I've played games since I was a child on the PS1, I would call myself a Casual Gamer. I've only been serious with getting Trophies for 3 games and I've own many in my library, PS1, PS2, Xbox, PS4 and PC (PS4 and PC in current time.)
I've never touched a From game because I've heard and seen how hard and challenging those games were and I simply enjoyed watching other Gamers suffer through them. I did not have the time nor the patience to deal with it.
The only ever game I tried that was close enough to a From Game was Nioh and I could not get passed the first Boss in the ship. I could not get into the mechanics of the game and I shelved it.
I saw Sekiro and watched others play through 45 minutes of the beginning. I love Japan and it's culture, which is a major reason why I gave Nioh a chance, including Sekiro even though Nioh burned me pretty bad.
And I have to say, I love Sekiro. I never believed that I would make it far, but I was willing to sink money for this game, because this Developer created previous games that people loved and I don't mind adding money to them even if I can't finish the game. However, I am close to beating the game and I've loved every second of that game. Even the most frustrating parts of it. In all truth, I had serious trouble with it at the beginning, but I got help from others who've beaten the game and watched a video explaining more about the mechanics. After those major helping tips, I am now challenging myself to go farther then I thought I could at the beginning when I bought this game.
I am picky with the games I buy and Sekiro was one that I will play on NG+ just to push myself further.
This journalist who wants an easy mode, is probably someone who did not take the game seriously or took the time to understand the mechanics of the game.
My experience of the game shows me that Sekiro is perfect as it is. It is challenging enough and makes me feel like a badass when I deflect and dodge like a true Shinobi.
If GAMERS want an easy mode, then it will be worthwhile (concerning Time and Money) for the Developers to put a pause on any future projects to configure an easier mode. But, if GAMERS are not asking for it, then these journalists need to shut their mouths and respect the Developers design of the game and respect US THE GAMERS because we will not take their lies and their entitled mindset lying down. And I do not believe Gamers are being elitist or entitled when we defend our loved games and Developers who do not deserve being talked down to by these types of "journalists".
If you've gotten to the end. Thank you for reading all that!!

In all honesty, I found Sekiro to be the easiest game in FromSoftware's lineup. I think the reason for this is because, well, there aren't many........ how to say.......... "supernatural" attacks that the enemies use against you. The closest things I can think of is the terror mechanic and the lightning attacks. Most of the game are sword encounters against one opponent. And with the mob battles, you can thin out the herd before you fight the mini boss/boss. And I think that because I'm really good at patterns, I know exactly what the attacks are going to be from the bosses/mini bosses since there are a limited amount of attacks. So I know how to deflect them. Don't get me wrong though, the game is hard, but Sekiro is the easiest for me, and this is coming from the guy who has platinumed all of FromSoftware games. Sekiro is perfect. The risk/reward factor. The fact that there are no gimmicks or summons or ways of defeating an enemy until you master the mechanics. The game forces you to get good and playing an "easy mode" version of this game would be an insult to all it stands for.

This is my first from software game and I just beat it today. About to start ng+. Its hard as hell honestly, but I've learned it's about being precise with your actions and learning your enemies moveset. Plus I got all the prayer beads and maxed out my gourd. It's so exhilarating to fight a boss that you keep dying to, then boom. You learned the moveset. You learned exactly what you need to do, when to deflect, when to jump, when to use the counter. People say it's not rewarding because it takes them so long to fight a boss but when you finally beat that specific boss it is a feeling like no other.

Someone needs to say it, so I (someone who's sunk hundreds and HUNDREDS of hours into Dark Souls and Bloodborne, starting new files and pushing high NG+ cycles and loving every second of it) will: if From gave players an easy mode, it wouldn't affect your experience AT ALL.
How Dave plays his game has literally no effect on how you do. In fact, while you're sat there accusing that "pencil-neck" of trying to tell you how you should play your game, you don't even seem to realize that's *exactly* what you're doing to him and others like him.
You're telling him "No. You can't play with an easy mode. You shouldn't use summons on bosses, you shouldn't use crutches or grind or 'rob yourself' of that hard-earned wind. Git gud or git out."
If From's games had an easy mode, that'd be fine. Hell, it'd be great, even! More people would get to appreciate From's stellar world design and sound tracks and characters and lore... even if they have bad reflexes or aren't good at reading telegraphs.
If From's games had an easy mode, I'd be overjoyed. Because more people get to enjoy games that I love, and because I *don't need to play on easy mode.* I have that option. Something the gitgud crowd always seems to always overlook.
Dave playing on easy mode doesn't change MY game at all. In the slightest. Not the teeniest, tiniest bit.
But it DOES mean that I can have a great conversation with Dave about all the things we love in the game.
Here's the rub: options are good. People like options. Graphics options, sound options, and yes, even difficulty options. It's good for quite literally everyone involved. Better players get the satisfaction of playing on the harder difficulties, worse players get to enjoy the game in the first place, more people can buy the game so the developers get better rewarded for their hard work... the ONLY people who suffer for it are the people who demand that everyone *else* plays on THEIR preferred difficulty, in THEIR ideal way. It's ultimately just a selfish outlook.
And you know why I can say for certain that Dark Souls would be fine if it had an easy mode?
Because it ALREADY DOES, in the form of the White Sign Soapstone. You can summon a friend or NPC or two and the boss you're stuck on will be a cakewalk. Does that make the game bad? Of course it doesn't, you can just NOT summon people.
For all the talk about how From doesn't "want" various difficulties or ways to make the game easier, for all the talk from hotshot twink Invaders... no one ever seems to realise that Dark Souls already HAS all of that, and it's still one of the best game series in gaming history.
(And as one last point... the very existence of NPC summons for bosses - especially ones that have little to no story, like the Sword Master at Champion Gundyr - kind of shows that From very much DOES want players to have a button they can push to make certain encounters easier. If it were exclusively player-summons, you could argue it as a multiplayer thing, but the NPC summons are all but indisputable *proof* that the developers wanted to ensure that players would always have an option to call for help. Online, offline, even long after the servers are shut down.)

Took me 30+ attempts to beat that chained oger but the sense of satisfaction was unbelievable when I did. I used fire and still got my arse kicked lol

I'm going at the Demon of Rage rn. Man I am glad this fight can't be made any easier optionally, I would certainly hate that.

I feel the game respects you for the challenge it gives you and giving you obscure or obvious ways to overcome those challenges (save for the end boss). Take the true corrupted monk boss fight for example, with three phases and a fairly tanky, hard hitting design, even late in the game it’s a fair challenge to face, but low and behold, you can skip two phases entirely by stealth striking the boss if you’re clever enough and react quick enough to the phase changes. And even then the third phase is difficult enough to challenge you heavily.
The way I see it, if I game developer gives me the means to make a boss fight easier through the use of my own wit and knowledge of the game mechanics, while also keeping what I can’t skip a great challenge, that’s the ultimate respect they can show me

Never used summons in any soulsborne game i played, DS1-DS2-DS3-BloodBorne. Not even once.
Not because it's easy but because it's too much of a gamble. I just don't want to lose cinders or insight and find myself with an idiot.

I struggled so much against Genichiro, i probably died more than 20 times. And all of a sudden something clicked and i finally understood how to really play the game. (I tried to dodge most attacks, like in souls, instead of deflecting). Focus on health damage at the start of a fight, then you can fill up the posture gauge. Yup, was a good feeling

I sleep easy I’ve beaten every boss, except Sekiro’s.. with no aid. A couple of chalice bosses I used an npc summon. But alas, having less boss health is better imo

id love to get a 5th ending on sekiro where if you beat genichiro first time hed go into the lightning of tomoe version and if you beat 2 phases of that hed turn into the sword saint. so if you WANTED you COULD TECHNICALLY beat the game in 1 boss but...

Sekiro does have difficulty settings and you start on easy mode. Then you have options for NG+, kuro's charm, and the demon bell

Sekiro has to be the single most rewarding experience I've had with video games since......idk when. I cant honestly remember being as excited and hyped as I was when I finally beat Genichiro after a grueling 5.5 hour battle with him. Even playing and beating all of Bloodborne and the dlc didnt make me feel as accomplished and (lets be honest) as badass as Sekiro makes me feel. Yes, you die a lot, but as gamers, we're the ones who should enjoy rising to that challenge and overcoming it. Sekiro is easily one of my favorite games of all time. I imagine I'll be replaying this over and over for years to come. Thank you, FromSoftware. You guys are all aces in my book.
