  • In the tiny city of Escobares, Texas, 62% of residents live below the poverty line.
    That's the highest rate of any US city with more than 1,000 people, according to the 2016 US Census Bureau survey.
    Directly on the US-Mexico border, the city struggles with crime and unemployment.
    But local officials say they're trying hard to lift Escobares out of the cycle of poverty.

    • @oggyreidmore
      @oggyreidmore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is the answer of someone who doesn't understand what the word "poverty" means. Your suggestion for not having money is to use money to buy a goat herd? Each goat costs 2 grand a year to raise, not including the price of fencing pens or the price to buy them in the first place, and that's paying workers minimum wage. Someone has to come up with that money first, and people in poverty can't do that.

    • @ohioitis200
      @ohioitis200 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@oggyreidmore They suggested a "Community Herd". There is a richer city close to them, what's wrong with working there to get enough money for that kind of business venture? Things are only going to get more expensive so by doing nothing they are only going to get more poverty stricken. If they did not receive food stamps and medicaid I bet they would find a way to make some $$ to feed ther families.

    • @oggyreidmore
      @oggyreidmore 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ohioitis200 The problem is not thinking up ideas to make money. The problem is startup capital. Goats aren't free, and they don't produce artisanal soap and lotion on their own without further equipment that also isn't free. They are literally the poorest city in America. What part of this is not registering? If they could afford to start up a community goat herd they would have.
      The "richer city near there" is where everyone who lives here already works. They said in the video there's no jobs in town, they have to go out of town to work. They already tried your suggestion to "get money from there". They are still the poorest city in the country. You are assuming that since they are poor, they aren't working. They spend a quarter of their paychecks on gas getting to and from work and another quarter fixing up the only beat up used POS vehicle they could afford. The rest is spent on duct tape holding together the POS trailer home they live in. Where's this "extra" money supposed to come from?

    • @ohioitis200
      @ohioitis200 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@oggyreidmore there are towns within 30 mi utes of them. What's wrong with mowing grass, yard work, cleaning houses, babysitting? I've done all these things when I needed money. what about selling some of those old cars that are sitting around? If you chip in and get 3 goats that's all you need to start your herd. Come on, all they're doing is sitting around all day. And don't try to tell me they don't spend money on cigarettes and alcohol because I won't believe that. I'm sorry if you don't understand, but desperate times call for desperate measures. They are going to die there are n the same situation they are living if they don't try other things. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting to get a different result.

      Bashar al-Assad have you ever been to Mexico or the cities that were established before the Spanish conquistadores arrived?
      Mexico City was one of the largest and richest cities in the 14th century by a great margin. It had a population of about 200,000.
      In Europe, by contrast, London only had a population of 40,000 in the 1300s. It was so dirty that half of its population died from the Black Death then.
      While Europe had boats to get to the supposed “new world”, the Aztec empire was economically, infrastructurally and academically much more advanced than Europe was. If you are interested, you can find out more here:

    Dont wait for business to come in. Create the business. Go outside and find someone who will pay for certain goods to be made in America. Get the community to use the townhall or something to create the products. Become known as a community supplier. Another way is teach people how to farm. No land? No problem. Reuse plaatics, cut in half, add soil, and seed:and plant herbs, vegetables. Grow big enough and you can create a community selling fresh goods.

    Ok, so I'm confused. Is this an American city? Are these people US citizens? Is there a big city near them? What is their main form of income in that city? Why do they not have food - don't they qualify for food stamps? If they do qualify for food stamps, why hasn't a grocery store taken up residence there? Why aren't there any vegetables planted? Food will grow almost anywhere in raised gardens and pots. And they should never run out of water with the river there. Why do they have old cars sitting around instead of selling them for junk? Is the entire city like this? Why don't they grow or make things they can sell in a neighboring area, even if it's at a farmer's market? If they are a city, where is their law enforcement? Why is crime so high? Why are they "hoping" a company comes to them instead of making their city enticing so companies want to come? So many questions have to be asked before there can be an answer to their problems. In the meantime it looks as if they don't have much to do so get busy and clean your place up, plant vegetables and flowers. Go to the library and get ideas and answers. I feel like there's more to this story than we're being told.

    In this particular case it is perhaps not their culture/mindset that is bringing down the structure and wellfare of the city.. but in general it always works like that. If the western world continues to bring in cultures from the second and third world, they will become it.. This is just a preview of what america will become if we do not stick to western culture which builds upon rule, trust and equality!

      Their mindset of needing help and "hoping" a business will come to them is harmful. They need a type of re-education to teach them to do more for themselves and to start their own businesses.

      China and Russia doesn't have Western values yet they are prospering. Western values are not "equal" to success. If that was the case USA shouldn't have wasted all its time looting resources of other countries if it's "values" where enough to sustain themselves.
