Thank you, I fixed the problem. The thermostat was rusty and was always open. I also changed the coolant and cleaned the cooling circuit and the check engine light disappeared 😎thanks to your education

Back in the 90s it was VERY common for the ECT sensors on Ford 5.0L's to go bad.
Few months ago my 11 GM got this code and my mind went directly to the 90s. Since the car is new to me & I plan on keeping it long term, I decided to just change both the Stat and the sensor. Well... the sensor on mine appears to be under the coolant crossover! I really didn't want to pull that part so I changed only the stat and coolant.
I'm fortunate that the new stat resolved my problem.
Also, my daughter had a Jeep liberty 3.7L. I can't tell you how many stats & sensors we went through to get this code to go away. My final "fix" was to use the (expensive) OEM stat. Wouldn't you know... that fixed it. (its hard to believe that all the high quality aftermarket stats did not work like the OEM)
Thanks for this post. In the future it'll help understand the problem instead of shotgunning parts at it.

      Right on WOT,
      Thanks for the good feedback.
Partshotgunning is understandable when you desperately need to fix your car, and when you don't have $225 to pay for one hour of diagnosis at the dealership, (that's what my local Ford dealer charges).

I had this same problem recently. Changed the thermostat. Took about 10 minutes. No more check engine light and the engine heats up normally. I was surprised to learn that these cars don't require rtv sealant around the thermostat housing. Having owned much older cars this was always a requirement.

I get this question about from time to time about how I make my TH-cam Videos. And it’s kind of embarrassing. I started my channel 3 years ago to document some maintenance on my car, so I could reference it at at later time. So I just pulled out an old Sony Action Cam, (made in 2014) and started talking to the camera.
Ever since then 99.9% of my videos are filmed the same exact way. I push record, and then upload the raw footage directly to TH-cam. I don’t have a Windows PC, so I do not have access to editing software. I just take the SD Card out of the camera, and stick it in my $150 Chromebook. In the rare occasion I need to glue two video clips together I use my iPhone SE with the iMovie app. That’s all the “gear” I have.
As far as chess goes, I learned to play when I was 10 years old, and have not played since. So if we played, You would be playing against a 10 year old who just learned how to play. Lol

Hey Chuck, i just replaced my intake manifold and now my temp gauge doesn’t work. I replaced the etc sensor and it still didn’t work. I also replaced the etc sensor again to ensure I didn’t get a faulty part. The temp gauge is still not working.
When I replaced the intake manifold, I disconnected the resivoir hose from the over flow tank and just let it drain out. Once I put the new intake on, I filled with coolant and cranked the car but temp gauge on the gauge cluster had a steady reading of 0. I plugged a cheap code reader in the OBDII port and the car is idling at 192 degrees.
I let it sit for about a week out of frustration. So yesterday I cranked it up and let it idle for about 5 mins and the gauge is still not working so I turned it off. I noticed there was water leaking from under the engine a few hours after but I wasn’t running the ac. It was a horizontal shaped wet-spot directly beneath the engine.
I’ve replaced the thermostat with the kit that comes with the intake along with the o-ring. I checked 3 times to make sure I didn’t install it upside down.
I do not own a code reader. I do not know any honest joes. I do not have a lot of money.
    Help…

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yo LL,
If the ECT is reporting to the PCM, and you saw 192F on the scan tool it looks like the ECT is not reporting to the instrument cluster.
I would verify ECT signal is getting to the instrument cluster first.

@@PanzerPlatform bro thank you for the fast response. I forgot to mention the sensor worked perfect prior to me replacing the intake manifold. To be honest I do not have the means to check for all of that stuff. All I know is it worked great but then I broke the sensor from removing it from the old intake. I installed it partially broken and it kinda worked but not to my liking. So I pulled it back off and broke it all the way.
I put 2 new etc sensors in it and still not working. I will check what you said but it will have to wait until I have the means to check it. I was hoping it would be a quick fix.

Assuming the trans function matches the position of the gear shift arm.... its likely a little rod or string that moves the indicator.

I am curious how mine doesn’t have one because the person I bought the car from showed me a receipt from a repair shop that supposedly changed the sensor like 2 months ago. So I was trying to test it and see if it went bad. I also changed the thermostat so hopefully that fixes the P0128 but that was supposedly changed a year ago by a different shop. So strange.

@@PanzerPlatform also another question: so on the same car the battery light comes on while driving and stays on for quite a bit then shuts off then kind of repeats that cycle. I was thinking it was an issue with the alternator but checked the voltage when it’s idling and I am getting like 15.5 volts (which I think is a bit high) I think the alternator is overcharging the battery. But I took both the battery and alternator in to the parts store and had them test both and they both tested good. So what could be the issue? Why does the battery light come on then shut off. I also checked the tension of the serpentine belt and that is tight also.
