    I'm so glad you're reacting to songs of theirs outside 'Sweet Dreams', which is where most reactors seem to stop. My recommendations are There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart), Thorn In My Side, Sexcrime 1984 and When Tomorrow Comes.
    I suspect they put Annie & Dave's name after 'Eurythmics" because there is a concern that not enough people in the US would know or care just who they were otherwise. But it's the Eurythmics that put Annie Lennox on the map and were commercially more successful than either Annie or Dave as solo artists. I don't get why they aren't far better remembered than they are today.
    I have to admit it bugs me to see it, as I grew up in the Eurythmics era, in the UK. They were a very successful and highly acclaimed duo who consistently had top ten hits, and *everyone* knew the name! Stevie Wonder even played harmonica for them in 'There Must Be An Angel', which is an absolute 80s classic. It blows my mind that the name 'Eurythmics' needs any further advertisement in this day and age ... this wouldn't have been the case in the 80s and 90s, that's for sure! :P

    Probably my favorite Eurythmics albums is "Savage". There are so many standouts on that LP...in particular "Savage", "I Need A Man" and "Brand New Day" to name a few. Thier work is quirky, witty and often pure fun all incased in a synth drenched chocolate coating enjoyed by many. Cheers Anton.

    They were not ahead of the their time, they ARE 1984. I was there. The 1984, and around those years, the music energy was amazing all around. This is what we were all about back then. The Euriythmics were part of the new-wave and synth-pop along Tears for Fears, and so many more. That was 1984. I am so grateful I was 23 back then, having lived through this amazing music. Music was everything for us.

    Great group of the 80s. Very electronic at the beginning of their career, their sound became more pop and classic in 1986. In 1987 SAVAGE is a return to basics: more daring, musically controversial. I advise you to listen to the soundtrack of the film 1984 for the love of Big Brother.

    In terms of similarly cool vibe, check out You Have Placed a Chill in My Heart, which is chilly as indicated. 😅 Either the official music video or the acoustic version is awesome. Actually, that song and the other two singles, Beethoven (I Love to Listen to) and I Need a Man, from the album Savage, are all underappreciated.

    So happy you reviewed this. Song came out circa 1983 and was where music was reinventing itself and people were starting to play around with the Yamaha DX7 synth. Mixing the synth with the violins with an occasional strummed overdriven guitar: Dave Stewart brilliance. Annie’s vocals in this, so powerful. Her voice is akin to a V10 engine purring in 2nd gear at 40mph and you know she has SO MUCH bandwidth to explode at any time. Very few female vocalists (especially white girls, frankly) can contend with her timbre and power. I mean, honestly, how many white girl singers would Aretha be prepared to duet with?? No way would she pair with any Madonna/Belinda Carlisle type character! Annie is a cut above.

    Thanks for highlighting this song. They are incredibly talented musicians. There is a mood / atmosphere that some of the acts of this era created. Others included Pet Shop Boys, Blancmange, Art of Noise, and Depeche Mode. This was just regular top 40 radio. At the time, I needed a place to escape mentally from time to time. This kind of music definitely took me to a faraway place. Some other excellent tracks from Eurythmics are Beethoven (I Love To..), Who's That Girl, This City Never Sleeps, Doubleplusgood.

    Interesingly Annie herself stated that the chorus "talk to me, like lovers do" is completely cynical as she's trying to explain that lovers talk is meaningless. So rather than the chorus being opening up and optimistic, it's actually the complete opposite of that. Sonically you should try No Fear, No Hate, No Pain, No Broken hearts - the whole Touch album is great. Otherwise, I'd highly recommend Beethoven - the whole savage album and it's video album are a trip and Eurythmics at their finest.

    Leaving one's mouth open is something a lot of people do, especially when they're paying intense attention to something, surprised by something, or really into something. It's one of the many things that show how your reactions are genuine.
    There is a brain connection to this. Your brain physically holds your jaw up, so releasing it allows your brain to focus better on something with less to do controlling those muscles. When focusing intently, the brain shuts down anything unnecessary, including holding the mouth closed. :)

    • @antonczachor
      @antonczachor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow. That's actually fascinating, thanks Laura!

    • @lauraallen55
      @lauraallen55 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@antonczachor Of course! It's totally true. I wasn't saying it to make you feel better. The brain edits out peripheral vision to a degree when focusing, as well as one's nose, along with relaxing muscles that are not needed at the moment. haha!
      This is also the reason people have a very hard time focusing and even articulating when they are anxious; the brain is very focused on the perceived threat. I probably said it before that brains are not made to make us happy - they are made to protect us.
      You just keep on leaving your mouth open all you want. Your fans are not gonna think any less of you for it. I, for one, always know when you are laser focused on a part of a song because of it, or are particularly enjoying it. The eyes seek out what is beautiful to them, and so do the ears. :)

    It is a great song, like the ones you've mentioned and many others they did. I love Annie's voice and the synth waves definitely put a thing in the song. Lyrics beautifully written. I think it's a little different from Sweet Dreams in what messages and SD is more up too, but I can see what you're talking about when you say both songs sound a little similar to you, but curiously I try to think about the other song and the only one that comes to my mind now is this. If the intention behind its production was to put the listener in a trance, I can say it worked...

    i noticed your head movement (thinking back to your admission of when "side to side" is like lost in the groove) & you fascinatingly switched to that halfway through.. nice.. because this song has all the right "playful" lyrical notes in a minor chord, while the bridge shifted into major scale.. Lennox is one of those rare artists who is very comfortable ("at home") in the minor scales, musically - just like me, perhaps an admitted very young influence.. the song was specifically one year after "Sweet Dreams".. i also recommend (personally) searching her own Instagram or even on ytube of her fascinating re-rendition of the song she performed for the Ukraine benefit the last week or so! as for the video, not only do i love the use of a "negative"/inverse exposure on the clips of the ocean, landscapes & birds, just to give it that slightly different visual angle some ppl have during times of darkness in their lives - a desaturation of perceived color, depending on one's mental perception.. there is also the "yet again" use of technology injected into their video: Dave w/the video camera, think of the technology injected into the "Sweet Dreams" video.. it was/is prescient not only for our video'd society now, but for almost-(un) intended sequel of submitted work: a soundtrack concept album for the "modern" film version of "1984", steeped in total population surveillance.. an album which Annie herself declares as their most underrated album in a "Masterpiece" interview w/Ari Melber which you can find on ytube (highly recommend).. thank you for your review & reaction!

    ‘Sweet Dreams’ was their breakthrough hit but in an era of one hit wonders there wasn’t yet a sense that they’d be back with more. .
    ‘Here comes the rain again’, both the song and video, proved their depth and cemented then as bonafide hit makers.
    They were way ahead of their time and both were insanely creative.
    You MUST react to ‘Would I lie to you?”. It was on the album that followed this (If you don’t include their soundtrack to ‘1984’). It shows their incredible evolution.

    this video is heavily inspired by David Bowie Ashes to Ashes video that came out in 1980 since both Dave and Annie are big Bowie fans and Annie was his friend too. I suggest you watch the Ashes to ashes video to see the similarities the song is fantastic too even if I think it's not your cup of tea (so to speak) since you seem to love emotional music and David Bowie's music was generally more cerebral (not gut music so to speak) and sometimes difficult to listen too. He was a great singer too one of the few male singers in pop-rock-electronica who were astounding.

    Hey Anton, again a great vid and a great vibe. Typically listening to Metal Core, I've been stuck with RetroWave for a couple of years. The Eurythmics synthesizers definitely threw me back there. Speaking of trance: I wonder whether you can keep yourself from nodding to this one. Doesn't have any vocals though: th-cam.com/video/89vR2QemJwY/w-d-xo.html

    And her on the beach with the lantern means time and when she's on the ocean it is the Living Dead the oceans appeared After the flood so it has a thousand different meanings of her looking at them ocean waves ...standing there with the lantern..whoa pretty heavy statement actually if understanding the symbolic how deep these songs really go with the words and nothing to do with human emotion understanding or love in fact Annie's Song missionary man is how Eve became Eve Genesis 2

    I remember as a kid her look was considered so extreme. No one looked like this. Women didn't have shaved heads or hair this short. Now it's nothing.

    I feel you need to dive into New order... Blue Monday is a classic to start on if you're wondering where trance music was more or less birthed from. (I accept you've got kraftwerk etc but really) blue Monday was the best selling 12" single of all time and is still a floor filler... And you almost certainly will have heard it (at least in part) before!

      I find Anton very intelligent, introspective and eloquent. He’s a smart, interesting guy.

      @macmanplus - you seem to misunderstand the concept of a reaction video
