Lived on Anna Maria for a bit around 1972. Probably Holmes Beach. Not more than 1/2 mile from the Manatee Ave Bridge. I was 18-19 and boy did we try to catch fish...and boy were we mainly unsuccessful. My buddy's dream was to hook a Snook...which evidently back then were quite scarce. He never did around there....later down near Ft. Myers he did. Man that place looks unrecognizable when I google earthed it...........looks like they built islands with homes on them along different parts of the causeways from Bradenton out to the island. A neighbor ran a gillnet out into the Gulf one evening and caught a 2 foot Blue Shark...the one and only one I've ever seen......Looks like fishing has improved a lot since my time...due to a lot of conservation and pollution initiatives over the years.

Anna Maria Island is a fantastic place to live.I love how laid-back it is and yes like you said the fishing diversity is now fantastic even after the affects of the red tide last year! On most of my Charter trips we catch and release over 30 Snook and it’s normal to limit out on Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper or Gag Grouper on our trips. Land base is where it's at. Dont get me wrong, offshore will always be the top dog but there is something about catching a fish of a lifetime on land! You should come on down to Sarasota. The snooks are chewing!!

Like you said, I also love to get off shore and reel in some big dawgs and bring home the groceries but there is something very special about the success of reeling in a Mondo from land! AP Bell fish company on Cortez road back in the early 80s my biggest redfish is 43 in Long my biggest flounder is 24 in Long I used to fish in Palma Sola Bay a lot that is my place where I caught my big flounder I am going to enjoy your videos also I used to work at bradenton City Pier restaurant
One of my favorite spots to fish at, although I never catch much there it's a great view. Couple great spots for sheepshead not far from there. Used to live right down the road from there but I'm in Riverview now trying to find some good spots.
