Another awesome lesson 🩷 Thank you. Your videos are by far my favorites, you keep it straight forward and to the point, makes me feel like my dads schooling me again 😅💕👌
Hello Frank, greetings from France ! Great job, clear and simple for any beginner who'd like to work on his "Vitara/Sidekick/Escudo". I appreciate the time you spend to show everyone what to do (and also what NOT to do ;) )... I have a question : did you make a video about the way you clean and paint all the parts of your Sidekick ?
Thanks for saying so. I show a little cleaning here and there. Nothing special, just a lot of brushing and wiping. I go through a lot of wire brushes with my Dremel tool and boxes of Q-tips too. My favorite cleaning solution is WD40. The paint is just cans of Rustolium or similar brand from the store. I do a final cleaning with wax/grease remover before painting and usually apply 3 coats. Sometimes I add a couple of coats of clear-coat. That makes the parts easier to keep clean.
Hey Frank, I'm restoring my pump from a Vitara/Sidekick too, but where is the thing with the spring underneath it for? Is it the electric connector for the idle to go up? Thanks for your video it's a great help!
You are asking why there is an electrical connection to the steering pump, right? It is an on/off switch triggered by pump pressure and has a single wire connected directly to the computer (ecm). I do not know how that switch effects the computer program. I assume that it would cause a check engine light to come on if the pressure is low, but that is just a guess.
No I was aware there is an electrical connection on the power steering system but I didn't know where. But now I do, thanks! It makes the idle go up a little bit so the engine doesn't stall when for example your steering when your standing still
Hi Frank. I am restoring my 1994 Vitara and your videos have been of great help so far. Thank you for taking the time for filming and sharing them. Thank you for sharing the information about the online store RockAUTO.COM too.
Greetings from the UK. I've got a 1997 Suzuki Vitara which is going in for its MOT on Monday. I was hoping it would get through without too much work/expense, but in the last few days, the steering has become noisy, a sort of whining noise when I am parking/manoevring/reversing. I'm female and know nothing about cars but a bit of online research indicates that the noise I am experiencing is due to power steering pump issues. It drives perfectly but it's just this noise that has suddenly developed. My main question is, is it safe to drive to the garage on Monday?
The power steering pump takes some power from the engine to make steering easier. You can still steer the car fine even if the power steering pump is disconnected. It will just make it stiff to turn. I think you are completely safe driving it to the mechanic shop even if the steering pump is making noise.
@@nunapitchuk Just to give an update. Took my car in at 9am. Got a call at noon to say ..... it had passed its MOT. 27 year old car sailed through! I couldn't believe it. A few advisories - mainly corrosion underneath but not bad enough to need work now. No problems with steering. My mechanic checked it and said the pump and something else were 'damp' but he topped up the steering fluid and the noise stopped. He couldn't see any major leak, and advised me just to check levels (showed me how to top up and also the little dipstick thing in the tank). Said just to monitor it, but wasn't concerned. Obviously if work needs doing further down the line, I will get it sorted, but he was happy - just said keep an eye on it and call him if any problems.
GUDAY SIR FRANK...IM JUST WANT TO ASK....WHAT PART NO. OF THE REPAIR KIT OF POWER STEERING PUMP DO YOU USE FOR YOUR SUZUKI? & WHERE CAN I FIND IT?...TYVM N GOD BLESS....
I bought mine from rockauto.com. Was not real happy with it because the o-ring did not fit correctly. I think this is the one I used: Gates 8840 Power Steering Pump Seal Kit.
Hello Frank, Thank you very much for your videos. I am Saturday's mechanic enthusiast. I would like to get your help about my 1999 Suzuki GV, H25A engine. Problems with my A/T. Thanks. Christian Larson Paraguay.
Hi Christian. I do not know about your model of car, but if it has the same transmission then I might be able to help. You can message me on my face book page: facebook.com/SidekickRebuild/

Either should work fine.
Sir , what cain of fluid use?

Sorry, I didn't see this question. I use ATF in the power steering. The same that I use in the transmission.
