Sometimes I miss CDs. The effect of this song was so powerful when it faded in from silence.
You had just finished listening to an amazing album, and you're enjoying the silence, and all of a sudden, unexpected out of no where. Sounds and then wham. Amazing track.

so true. the silence that preceded it gave it a certain cachet that you miss when you listen to the isolated track. i did listen to the specific track a lot as an angry teenager tho. i'd have to hold the skip button for like a minute every time til i got to it.

The first time I heard this song, I had fallen asleep while listening to the album (previously, I would just turn off my stereo after the end of "Burger Queen", did not realize there was a hidden track), and woke up thinking I had had a nightmare, before it dawned on me that it was a song, not a killer trying to get into my window. One of my favorite Placebo-related memories.

I had this album on cassette, and I gave it to a girl I liked (but never had the guts to tell) at high school when I was 15 I think, and I haven't listened to it since, until just now. I'm now 33 and it so fuckin eery how it feels like no time has passed between then and now. Nearly 19 years between the last time I heard ( most of) this album and now and I remember every lyric. What a fuckin solidly great album this really is.

Favourite hidden track ever! I know it's supposed to be terrifying and there's a bloodcurdling story behind it, but I find it a beautiful and inspiring work of art. First I couldn't hear the messages, just the answering machine's voice, and immediately imagined something vivid, beautiful, and totally tragic. There's something very melancholic about voices on telephones. Reminds me of Evalia and Swallow. So great Placebo were fearless enough to record this despite all the horrible things!

What does the stalker say in the message of voicemail? I just can hear "motherfucker"

"Hey, you motherfucker, i'm after you." He apparently says "I know where you live" afterwards, but I don't think they put that in the song.

@@planetX15 I still see the reply for some reason but it's probably a glitch or something.
The voicemail says: "Hey, you motherf***er, I'm after you." The end sample is from Funny Little Man by Aphex Twin (1997)
EDIT: I censored "mother****er because the original comment may have been blocked due to profanity.
