  • This is how I currently pack my orders! I believe that the right packaging make a huge difference and creates a special and meaningful experience for your customers. Unwrapping an order wrapped like a gift is memorable and special, making your customer extra happy :) I wanted to share with you more ideas for packaging your orders for your small business! Whether you sell online or in person, your beautiful handmade product deserves to be carefully packaged. It's taken a me a while to develop this type of packaging, I've been trying different things and right now this is the packaging I'm the most happy with for my handmade jewellery.
    - I sell online, so a sturdy, outer box is a must. I want my jewellery to be safe during shipping.
    - Inside, I wrap the contents of the box in a delicate tissue paper. This type of paper is very easy to recycle and take a lot of space. And I personally thing that it adds a luxurious feeling!
    - You may think that all of the elements inside must cost a lot of money, but that's not necessarily the case! It depends on where you find your supplies. I found a good printing company that printed my cards (an artwork with care instructions and contact details and business cards/thank you notes. I've designed these cards myself, using Canva, an online graphic website, but you could simply use a beautiful photo of your product or your studio for this.) I've been researching different companies and sites that offer little pouches and brushes for months. I finally found the ones I'm happy with. Same with the polishing cloths. Lots of different types are available online. I found those decorative cards and stickers in my local stationary shop.
    - Jewellery boxes. I still order mine from WestPack (based in Denmark I believe, ships worldwide). They print your logo on the boxes for free.
    - Handmade fabric ribbon, I love making them while watching movies, it's very relaxing.
    - Custom wax seal stamp with logo - I found a seller on Etsy that made my custom stamp. There's plenty available.
    - Do I put boxes in anything else? Not at the moment. Currently, I use a solid paper tape to seal the boxes for shipping and I attach a shipping label on the box. I'm considering trying out a recyclable shipping bags as an outer packaging, so that the box inside can be reused.

    How I pack my orders in 2023! I hope this video will be inspiring and will give you some interesting ideas. This packaging may seem expensive, but it's not overly pricey. With a good research and consideration, it's possible to find and match beautiful elements that will create a a special packaging with a luxurious feel. The items I include in the order are based on the order value. More expensive orders and collector's pieces receive the pouch and additional gifts. I want my customers feel extra special and happy when unboxing their new artisan jewellery, that's why I'm happy to add these little things. Other items that are also great are little crystals or a separately packaged bag of a delicious tea. Thank you so much for watching! Let me know if you like this packaging and what other ideas do you have for an interesting and special packaging!
    Love, Basia x

    Hiya Basia,
    Once again, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I just heard my brother mention 'Tigar'; I asked and, yes, they have a 'Flying Tigar' here in my new home of Milton Keynes. I straight away told him he was taking me, and soon. I hope they have the black frame you have on your wall.
    Okay, to your video. Is that why we are here? I did wonder? I love this video with a passion! It is sharing a part of your process, which I love. But it enhances our lives by watching you prepare to share your work with the blessed recipient. The gentle, art-filled love that goes into your preparing this package is wonderful to view.
    Your choice of materials, textures, and colours harmonise into a truly balanced whole. Perfection!
    I love the making of the ribbon and the fact that you make the ribbon. A hand-made compliment to a soul-lifting purchase. That compliments the very centre of your work and lifts it. HAND-MADE!!!
    You are such a perfectionist in producing your artwork; this compliments that work and delivers a complete package.
    So for all who read this and more, watch this film; enjoy it and learn how Basia rounds out the experience for her fortunate customers.
    Stay safe, Steve xx

      Oh my goodness, Steve, what a wonderful and sweet comment! It was a such a pleasure to read and you really made my day, thank you! 💕 I feel touched by how beautifully you've described my packaging and the emotions it evokes. I could not have said it better. You're always so kind and your feedback means the world to me.
      I'm wondering what black frame you have in mind? 🤔 It's probably very obvious and staring at me as I write this, but I can't remember what it was! However, I'm sure you will enjoy visiting that shop even if they don't have that frame, walking around this store feels a bit like a visit to a toys museum, where an interesting selection of items is displayed. I always find it fun to visit, even if I don't buy anything.
      Can you remind me if you have a sweet tooth? They have some nice Belgian waffles that I can recommend 🥰
      I just read an email from you, I will respond soon 💕 Take care and stay safe, Steve! Xx

    Beautiful I am in the market for this type of thing. curious why you made the wax seal on a piece of marble not directly onto the package. also just getting ready to do all this to myself overwhelmed, at sixty years old about figuring out how to post with understanding the algorithms etc. etc. how to get your stuff seen. How to understand the business of the business part. Self taught as well

    I appreciate your sharing your ideas. I'm concerned with the environmental impact of all that stuff. How much just gets tossed by the buyer because they just want the jewelry? I'm sure the polishing cloth will likely get used, but what about the rest?

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      No need for concern, as there isn't much environmental impact here. Small handmade businesses hardly cause any damage or environmental impact. The amount of packages I can send monthly is very limited and nowhere near the amounts produced by hundreds of mainstream shops, supermarkets and sellers worldwide. I don't use plastic and every element of this packaging serves a specific purpose.
      This is an example of packaging best suited for handmade, artisan products, like jewelry for example, which requires proper protection and additional elements (cleaning products, care instructions, safe wrapping). I encourage everyone to support small sellers, because they are the ones who are actually focused on sustainability and treat the materials they use very seriously. The ones we should boycott and shame are massive corporations - mass producing waste and causing irreparable damage. Not to mention lack of work ethic and greenwashing.

    How do you manage to afford the cost of all these packaging with product

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mostly because the jewellery I make is artisan and more expensive. I wouldn't be able to use this type of packaging for smaller items (like my little alpaca earrings or dot necklaces I sold in the past. They were silver, but the price point was much lower than what I make now). Also, this packaging is meant as an idea as to how it can look or what can be put inside, but I'm definitely not claiming that it has to be exactly like this :) It's best to play around and adjust it to the product we sell. Even just the box, tissue paper and a handmade chiffon ribbon with a thank you note is plenty and very beautiful but also inexpensive packaging :)

      @@funkchenohneanton4270 too much for sterling and fine silver jewelry with precious and semi-precious gemstones?? All materials are carefully sourced by me, with trackable suppliers and everything is made by hand. No, I do not think this is too much. If anything, it's still too little. Somehow people don't complain about the prices that fast fashion and high street shops ask. It's always a small, handmade business that makes some people outraged. They think we should be undercharging for ARTISAN, slow made and sustainable jewellery. This is art, one of a kind pieces. Can't be priced like mass produced, cheap, fast fashion costume jewellery.

    All nice but is it a profitable business? So many extras for which you have to pay and the pace of packing :)) I understand that for the purposes of the video it is so celebratory, but if you pack like this every day, you probably only ship one thing a day.

    • @TheArtOfMetalsmithing
      @TheArtOfMetalsmithing  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Haha, well, you're not wrong! I don't ship often, as I have limited amount of finished pieces at a time. I mostly work in small collections, because my jewellery is artisan and very time consuming. It's is all handmade and my designs are quite elaborate. I mostly use gemstones, sterling silver, some gold and sometimes brass. That's why my jewellery has a higher price point and it's the reason why this type of packaging makes sense in my case. It doesn't add much cost to each order and it makes me very happy to give something extra to a customer that generously purchased my work. I agree that this packaging set up may not work for smaller items that sell faster. In that case, I would recommend adjusting the packaging to fit that business model and type of jewellery.
