I like the thickness and the wedge shape of the Raspad! it is more desk-friendly than a tablet on a stand! and the tinker factor of anything Raspberrypi related is just awesome!
Kudos for not doing the unboxing nonsense!! I do like this but the lack of USB-C power option is off putting for me. I’m really done (as much as poss) with propriety chargers and loosing them!!
Very interesting video. Bit bulky indeed, but gives you the choice of OS, expansions and connectivity. To cut it short : all that other tablets cannot offer. Seriously considering buying one.
Hi Lee it looks like a great option if someone wants to run different operating systems from a single pad. little pricey but a great option, would love to see it run from an m.2 drive on the inside of the case.
Nice idea but for me it's far too expensive. Wifey got a Lenovo tab recently was sub £100 in the UK delivered A quick check and this is £200+ and that's without a Pi4!
Well, they can’t order the parts in really big bulks, so they have to sell it at a higher price to make up for the costs Another option might be to buy a second hand tablet, rip all of its guts out, jerryrig the display to work with the pi, and try to fit the pi in it, the end result might not look good (depending on how much u spend on the project), but it’ll be cheaper
@@STORMFIRE07 So spend lots of money to end up with something not as good? I'm not saying it's not a good idea, just for me and the better half it's just not worth the cost...
@@adrianhendy It shouldn’t cost that much, a second hand tablet should cost u $50 (depending on how cheap of a tablet u buying), a pi will cost anywhere between $5 and $75, so on average the total cost should be less than $150
The Win11 Build you got is very old in comparison with the current build on the Insider Preview Dev channel. You have basically Win 10 with just the Taskbar from Win11. The new Settings App is missing the new Action Center and some other UI changes.
Based partly on this video (and others on the same topic), I purchased a Raspad 3. One thing I don't remember seeing in this video is much if any mention about network connectivity. In my experience, Ethernet works fine. But the wifi is terrible. I use Pi 4s for everything from my drones, to controlling my 3D printers, and all of them are on WiFi. (I use WiFi extenders on my drones to get better range.) For whatever reason, the Pi inside the Raspad can scan for WiFi APs and find them, but actually connecting to them literally never works unless I'm standing with the tablet in my hands no more than 4 feet from the AP in my office. I assume its because the Pi's sad little resonant-cavity antenna is sitting under the screen, but it's the worst I've seen FWIW.
It'd be more appealing if there wasn't so much space wasted at the edges of the screen. *OR* imagine how much slimmer it would be if it used the board from the Pi400.
Or if they used the CM4! The timing when they released it was just slightly before both the 400 and CM4 came out, I’ve found the RasPad to be a bit too -thicc- thick for my liking…
3:40 I don’t think those batteries are safe for that kind of tablet, because if it gets too hot, 🔥. If the battery is swappable, I would change it to a different battery… one that’s not lithium ion.
I got one from the original kickstarter. Sadly one of the included hdmi cables in the case was defective, and I had to replace it with a generic one. Doing this killed the touchscreen aspect of the device, since I think somehow the HDMI cables in tandem are responsible for the touchscreen. I need to find a compatible and short hdmi cord that will restore this functionality. The HDMI cords that came with it are just a tad too short to reach well inside the case, they just made the fit far too tight in there.
On mine the Ethernet Cable connection will Not work. Tried other cables connected between Pi4 and RasPad but it still won't work. If I connect Cable directly to Pi4 it works. Other than that I use Wifi.
@@leepspvideo BTW... I Finally received the Missing DeskPi Pro update. Apparently some Postal Person at my local PO. found it and put in back into the System. Works Awesome.
Its funny how microsoft is requiring PC's and laptops to have TMP2.0 modules as well as pretty recent cpu's but windows 11 runs fine on a raspberry pi... Defo a decision made to sell hardware.
I would replace the fan with something a bit more silent like the PiMoroni Fan Shim fan, that's what I didi in the PiBoy DMG, the original fan was way too noisy and now my unit is completely silent

I have that Tablet (for at least 2 months now) , but I don´t like its default OS , Actually I'm using it with Twister, the only Issue is the accelerometer ,It only works with that default raunchy os with little option for customization, however and I really liked as a portable Raspberry mini pc , more than as a Tablet, I won't recomend it as a Daily use tablet or to give it to your kids , they will feel frustated if they come from iOS or Android (even if the Raspad is using android)

Lithium ion batteries are used in most mobile phones and electric cars. Issues are not that common considering how many are around.
You need an m.2 sata option for inside the case

I would have thought the touch functionality was supplied via Bluetooth.
This is the best tablet now
maybe could add a pijuice for longer power ... or the argon m2 drive
@@jyvben1520 the argon m.2 is just a USB to SSD adapter not an actual drive. You can accomplish the same thing with a smaller/cheaper m.2 enclosure.
It is now possible to change the boot order with the latest bootloader version, it is possible to prioritize usb boot over sd card boot

Be nice if it used the Compute Module 4. It would be slimmer and might have more room for batteries. An M.2 interface would be nice also.
As the best seller the Pi 4 has such great support which makes this compatible with the huge amount of Pi 4 images available
Imagine hooking up an m.2 with that, with an 8G Pi4. Along with the SD card and USB drives.

Possibly, Berryboot will run from a usb drive
The SSD or NVME access would be so much faster and give you better options on the whole system
