Ye i get why its done, its easier to keep things more consistent it normally involves working with actual adult who’s been an experienced and seasoned Voice actress for years. Working with kids, much less having to constantly REPLACE and work to find new kids is way harder to pull off on the tight schedules that cartoons always have. But the benefit of having kids play kids is that when its done right, it leads to this super authentic sound that you just could never get from any adult, it’d what separates timmy turners voice, from gumballs. (This isn’t a knock towards tara strong or other female va’s who voice kids tho, they’re all great and knock it out of the park too)

I heard that in Japanese anime most young male characters are voiced by adult female VA’s while America tends to almost always use young male kid actors to voice kids, but it seems more and more adult female VA’s are filling that role.

The main place you see kids voicing kids in the west a lot of the time is in stuff like movies where the kid actor isn’t gonna age much during production. Shows that go on for too long usually run into this problem so they either stick with adults voicing kids, or just replace the kid actor ESPECIALLY before the 2010’s where most tv cartoons where episodic and not serialized so time never passed Think ash ketchum, bart simpson, timmy turner, most of the rugrats cast etc

I think each VA have their own strength Logan - Classic, Good with his highs and lows specially with screams and cries. Jacob - SINGING! i think during his run where a lot of gumball singing happen and a lot it are genuinely good songs and he is GOOD! Nicholas - He's a combination of both... Perfectly balanced. He's also good at promoting the character. He's like very funny and have a good sense of humor. i even read an interview with the show runner that he have contributed a lot of joke ideas with the creator.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes Nicolas Cantu as Gumball. There's just something about his "kid voice" that I like.

I actually liked Jacob's puberty voice, but Logan's puberty voice was constantly cracking and got really annoying, especially towards the end of season 2
