Kudos on you for being able to jump through hoops to placate a subset of people who have particular needs to be met. Like respecting whatever identity they choose for themselves, and requiring others to participate in that endeavour.
But others will struggle with this! So... Does that make them transphobic? Bigoted? I've met and interacted with PLENTY of gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, but there is no requirement for me to change an already established narrative! There is no extra work that I need to do, to acknowledge and accept who they are. No special pronouns... No need for me to decode their identity... Nothing! They are who they are, whether I choose to accept them or not!
So I have to be honest, if I did come across a person who was trans, I would be very uncomfortable with that situation, because one wrong move or mistake on my part, could bring about unwanted scrutiny. Indeed, I would probably remove myself from that situation, in order to eliminate the possibility of a misunderstanding!
If I was in a situation where I had no choice, then I would simply insist on calling them on a first name basis only! Because to be BRUTALLY frank, I would mess up these new pronouns! I have enough problems on my plate already! So I really don't want to participate in this pronoun situation.
Does that make me a bad person?! Because I don't want to get involved???

This is not really a big thing.
As a black person, i can know more about white history than a random white person.
I've have several instances in life where white people can "act blacker" than me and even know more about black history than me.
I've finally come to the realization that it both does and doesnt matter.
      1) its good that white people learn about black people with such fervor.
(And in that same way this Canadian knows much about US Law systems.)
      2) its good that black people learn history (which is kinda also white history in ways cuz UK is a white=euro nation that came to the USA)
      3) I still know and cherish other nuances of blackhood that I'll only experience even as they'll experience different experiences of whitehood.
      All in all.
This guy is a professor so our Laws are very much intertwined.
Canadian and USA both came from UK colonization as such our laws are modeled and are derived from them.
Personally I'd like to think US is better than UK since we dont have the OLD laws to observe. But sadly there are cons with a clean slate laws being written but at that point we modeled our laws after UK and improved what we didn't like.
Namely democracy. (Id have to confirm when parliament came into play and the crown became less in control of how their nation is run but even UK has a semblance of democracy these days)

Many of you are still missing the point!!!
Peterson made it clear that it wasn’t about hate, even though that’s the part that some of you are so obsessed with. It was about compelled speech!
It’s not ok to hate anyone*. But you can still hate what they do to themselves and others (lifestyles).
So wishing that someone made better choices is NOT to hate them. It’s actually a show of love, because you want was is best when it comes to everyone. We want them to make GOOD choices, and to draw the most from the benefits.
And to expect (or demand) that everyone else accept or love every one of your particularly wrong life choices and lifestyle is utterly irrational, narcissistic and harmful thinking.
Then again, we struggle not to hate those who are shooting up so many of our schools and places of worship. Hard, but not impossible. If it were easy, Jesus wouldn’t have told us several times that we must love (or wish the best for) our enemies.
    * Two biggest commandments were about Love: 1) love God about all things and 2) love your neighbor as you love yourself
So what God loves/hates supersedes what we (or anyone) love/hate(s)

A lot of people hate because they've been self-convinced to do so, rather than developing a personal reason to hate; usually through social media. However this does not mean it's inherently wrong to hate someone. The real problem is when you decide to act on that hatred, if you catch my drift. You can hate without being aggressive about it. I forget exactly how the conversation broke down but at one point I was asked a question that went something along the lines of "so then assholes like you don't ever contribute to society while someone else suffers?"
2 things popped into my mind. 1 I was happy to finally get a moment with a genuine response and not a virtue signaling, holier than thou response. The other thought was how terrifying it is to value freedom and to shame and label someone an awful name just because you'd rather force them to acting the way you want them to act and you'd be willing to take their hard earned money by force and throw them in jail or prison because they would rather spend the money they make on their family of if they simply couldn't lend a hand. I even pointed out how instrumental GoFundMe is at helping. The response I got was, "So I should have to beg people to help?"
The fact that asking for help is somehow more shameful but that threatening to make someone a criminal if they don't isn't is also deeply desturbing.

I was always taught by my mother that hate is a terrible emotion and I should never hate anyone. It wasn’t until adulthood that I learnt that it’s a very liberating feeling to let go hate. I don’t allow anyone to hold that power over me or live rent free in my brain. I much prefer to get along with everybody, but if I don’t get on with someone they are insignificant to me and I don’t give them another thought.

Is long as it works, thats wonderful.
The only problem becomes when people go in your personal space.
Altho, you dont need to hate anyone in order to defend yourself, so thats also..
Really, what is the point of hating someone, it doesent do anyone any good, even if its hating the most eveil person alive.
Everything can be done without the need of hate.
But its a damn difficult emotion to get out of.
Im generally a calm person amd i dont hate almost anyone.
I dont really think of those i hate much unless im analising somrthing they say or do ( at which point i might find myself hating on occasion)
Anger sure, i have some , more oftain than hate.
I think. People latch in to it because it feels almost good, and its motibating too. From personal experience thats how its been like for me when i. Used to hate alot more.
Im too tired to write more, tho its an interesting topic, maybe for tomorow or another time.

The is a difference between anger and hatred. Anger is the short term form of hatred and I think it’s absolutely appropriate to feel and express anger if you see injustice or violence against something you value.
A short and powerful retaliation to show the other party that you disagree is ok. Don’t be a pushover and stand for what you believe in.
But being consumed by hatred indeed is poison to the hater.

    • @Dan_Ben_Michael
      @Dan_Ben_Michael 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@SanderBessels I understand the distinction between hatred and anger. Although I was making a specific point regarding hatred, I also think that anger is generally destructive. Anger, in my opinion, is indicative of poor impulse control. It’s counterproductive in debates or arguments, as well as in physical confrontations. One can be assertive and stand up for what you believe in without having anger or hatred drive you. Anger is a reactive emotion typified by impulsivity. Angry people go into a state of fight-or-flight and tend to react emotionally, they overreact. That overreaction is emotional reactivity. In that moment, our perceptions of the situation are altered. It narrows your focus both figuratively, and literally. Anger can cause a sudden rush of adrenaline which is known to occasionally cause tunnel vision. In combat a combat situation or in a fight it is very dangerous because while your central vision is focused on the primary threat, you may not see secondary threats, weapons of opportunity, or possible escape routes.
I was a boxing enthusiast as a child and into my early twenties until I switched focus to other forms of martial arts that I was practicing at the time, Muy Thai and Zen Chi Ryu. I started boxing to channel my anger issues. I discovered how detrimental anger can be a as people tend to lash out and make silly mistakes, open their guard, tire themselves out by taking wild swings. In boxing matches I would jab at opponents, trash talk, That can transfer into intellectual “fights” where anger makes people lash out and speak without measured and level headed responses.

@@Dan_Ben_MichaelThanks for the elaborate response! I fully agree and think that in your example you deserve a lot of respect for bringing uncontrolled emotional anger under control.
I was thinking more of situations where “all that evil needs for it to triumph, is for good people to remain silent.”
That’s a totally different situation. All I wanted to say is that there are situations where emotional anger is a useful emotion and expressing it sometimes is even the morally correct thing to do.

It's even stated very clearly that simply using incorrect pronouns is NOT enough to constitute criminal activity. All c-16 does is legally make discrimination against a person for being transgender a hate crime. That doesn't impact free speech in the same way that protecting black people from racism in the workplace isn't impacting free speech.
