If they wanted to make an animated movie, they should have. Trying to pass this as a "game" is unfortunate. Regardless how cinematic and pretty it looks, if gameplay was the trade off, then is not worth being "next gen". The whole point of next gen is for games to do things they couldn't before. However, looking stunning without any significant gameplay isn't that. Combat was a huge issue for me, you can tell every move is mocap based, unfortunately that means less flexibility. It feels so clunky at times, even if it looks great. At some point it felt like playing an old FMV games where your inputs only allow the action to continue, but don't actually influence what you do. Ninja Theory have shown they can do both cinematic and gameplay all the way to Heavenly Sword. This is a studio that clearly doesn't want to make a game, and they didn't. With so many stunning looking games, that have extensive gameplay and content, this was clearly never meant to be that, and they should pivot, instead of spending so long making an interactive movie, that was used to promote a console.
I personaly like the game quite bit. 8/10. If you ask me why well I would have to tell you that 1st i got it game on game pass for free, second from initial review I knew what i was getting into and 3rd would be because it can be done in day like an epic cinematic experience. This is the most definetly the best looking game i have played for it's scope. My recomendation would be if you can go get it on game pass. On the side note I really could see Ninja Theory doing Mad Max game with this engine. It would be abolutely incredible.
Thank you for Commenting. Its 100% a game that will have people torn. I think another playthrough after sometime will be interesting. Some people don't get what the game is going for. Its just lacking in the gameplay department. A Mad Max game would slap with this level of fidelity. Thanks for watching the video.
Im not a fan of numerical scores. Its one of those games that I dont think everyone will get or enjoy. Its an experience game rather than a full gameplay extravaganza. Its why my hit or miss verdict exists.
@@ITZJ1MB0 numbers are there just to convey something. They are pretty usefull for pragmatic discussions. Talking about “art” they’re not absolute. But just for the sake of an evaluation I think they’re ok. For example: the gameplay in Hellblade 2 is OBJECTIVELY non-existing. So it’s 0. The rest is gorgeous so it’s 5. I think your “hit and miss” is perfect to decribe it.

what you were expecting was an arcade game. What Ninja Theory was trying to accomplish, they accomplished well.

The only thing that has been improved from the original is the graphics, everything else is step backwards.
So it’s a 5/10. Perfect score because 5 it’s from the visual and sound, 0 is from the gameplay.
